Actually, everyone was playing with sleeves back then. But Wizards told the top8 players to play without them because of the glare. Cameras back then had problems picking up images from the glaring sleeved cards.
Whoever was responsible for the camera coverage did not know what the hell he was doing. You supposed to show the game not A FUCKING CLOSE UP OF THE PLAYERS!
I love old mtg play. the problem is that the video quality is so poor that you can't even see the cards and if you miss just a single one of them you just don't understand anything at all
Good work on Paquette's part, wearing matching tracksuits to the finals of worlds. If i ever made it anywhere with mtg, I would definitely be rocking the matching adidas too.
Actually, everybody was playing sleeves back then. Those two were playing without them because the sleeves would interfer with the cameras. Glaring and stuff.
Excellent, and yes, no sleeves needed even if it costs money :p That how i played on last previous Born of The Gods "avant-première" and in a two-headed Troll on this extension.
i would love to watch these games if the video quality was higher.

Matthias Binzel cool
Good to know, I was wondering why they were raw dogging. Pretty sure sleeves were main stream by then and I was certainly using sleeves around 2002

*Dramatic zoom out from random object* aaaand back to the game.

Damage still goes on the stack! So good.

4:53 PV Da Rosa before we knew him?
yep
Yea I caught that too. I wonder if it's really him
I think they had them remove the sleeves due to the glare from the lights and how the cards wouldn't be visible for the cameras.
THATS a well - organized competition
Because leaving diciple in play gives the other player more outs. He wanted to kill it
Old school finals at coffee shop table and plastic camping chairs. The final game ends, flash instant trophy cerimony. GG
Game 1: Aeo: "well, I just have one land in the game... scoops"

They can shuffle the opponent's deck if they so want.
