Freeze drying uses sublimation (from ice directly to a gas) to remove the water content from food while dehydrators use heat to evaporate the moisture. Freeze drying generally preserves heat sensitive nutrients, color, and flavor better than conventional dehydrators.
Super different! But if your looking for something more affordable, dehydrator is good. I have one and it’s really good for dehydrating seasonings and grinding them up for powder seasoning. And to make shelf stable foods.
for the freeze dried goods, i think the korean ones got one more step in the making, they marinade(?) any veggies/fruits in water/liquid first then freeze it before freeze-drying the additional water content in the goods/foods is what makes them puff out more and get that snappy texture!
I've never been so fascinated by freeze drying! Slices strawberries are my favorite things I've tried. I need to find some veggies to try at farmers markets now.
This is HILARIOUS, my 20 year old son not only lifted but carried BOTH my medium and large freeze dryers and put them into place without dropping them. I am so lucky!!!!

We put ours on a utility cart because it’s does have water that comes out and it made organizing everything so easy, we have a bucket on the bottom shelf of the cart with the hose running into it for the water and store the accessories too, and makes moving it easy if needed

I hope I don’t sound weird to ask this but do you use the freeze dryer for a business or a normal household stuff? I’m curious to the reasoning of why people would buy it and its usage in daily life
@@Itsnottmeduh the biggest plus of freeze dried food (outside of taste for some of them) is making their shelf life a lot longer. You can bring the foods for long camping trips, things like that. Some people even freeze dry some meals and rehydrate it when they want to eat it. For the most part though its just one of those things people with the disposable income do for additional "flavor" in their lives. Having vegetables as nice tasting chips for your kids or yourself while working, why not?
@@Itsnottmeduh We grow, raise, and hunt as much of our own food as possible on our homestead, so food preservation and storage is a necessity. Lately we have only been using it about twice a week, but once harvest season starts, it will run every day. I've sold a few freeze dried items, mostly candy, I'm sure it could generate a nice income on the side, but honestly it seems everyone is jumping on the freeze dried wagon, and theres a lot of competition as far as trying to make income goes.

Idk how it works but you guys were putting so many different candies and vegetables that had different densities and moistness so maybe that effected the way they came out. Like the smaller ones were flakier and the bigger ones were more solid and maybe even frozen inside
