That's great service Jonathan, really pleased it's arrived ok. I'm actually as excited as you because of course I've not seen it, although I did guess why you wanted it. Just so pleased I could help, especially because in a tiny way I'm now part of this superb project. Albion made trucks, so I wonder if at first they made motorcycles? Villiers made a small 98cc engine with a 2 speed gearbox. I had one in very rough condition in the 70s. It was badged as a Bown.
glad to see you helping jonathan out.. ParcelForce can be really good or really bad, I live in north Essex on the coast, and I bought a vespa scooter engine from a guy in Ireland, but due to weight limits, he shipped in 2 crates at the same time, 48 hour delivery - great, but one crate took 3 days, the other they lost and that took a week..lol.. good & bad everywhere I guess - lol.. anyways, glad your bike is getting along just great - thanks for the videos jonathan...
Wow that gearbox sure looks old but hey you found one so now you are that much closer to putting that antique motorcycle together. Thats great that Malc was able to help you out. Thanks for sharing
This gets better every day, it's your bike and you're going to build it your way. But honestly I was hoping you were going to add a transmission and clutch. It's like christmas waiting for every video on this build.
Looks like a 3 speed Albion Midget EJ - see barnstormers co nz and search for 'albion part 2' for the free pdf of the albion manual from 1931. Gearbox was OE on a francis barnett seagull (and others) up to 1940 when the FB factory was bombed out. Love the videos Jono!!
Its great when you have friends like that . I have had to ask friends in the US to ship to me in Canada because the seller in the US would not ship to Canada . It will work out great on your bike . Cheers
Pleased to hear this made it to you Jonathan, sometimes things just come together. A great addition to the 'bike build project' looking forward to you making progress. atvb t ..
That transmission is a treasure to find and so is your friend Malk in the U.K! Will you be using the frame you showed up in the rafters or building one that will be stronger to handle the weight of a rider, your engine and the new (old) transmission?
That's nice. I was wondering how you were going to work the clutch out on that. The kicker arm shouldn't be a problem. I'll look through my Harley parts to see if I can find you a kicker arm that you can make work.
Not many Albion boxes seen, or available...You got lucky. I have one on my vintage harding bath chair. If i spotted any out there for sale, id love to have a spare. Numbers on the villiers engine to which its paired with, read -1927. Therefore giving some kind of idea of age of the albion units. Mine is a 3 speed. Have slight play in the starter shaft, which leaks alittle oil..NOt much at all, but still enough to frustrate...but not enough to motivate.. And now also missing the top oil bung cap, to which would have had the oil grade stamped on it. rrr. But uk villiers site has one similar, but still awaiting a response from them 1 wk later.. Have you managed to source any spares?
johathan mr w - fantastic! dont quote me the specifics pls...that gearbox might have deep roots in some of scandinavia's finest marques - husqvarna, monarch, lito, and maybe their own short run motors as well as hedlin builds for those other 2-3 WOW!!! just saying maybe needs confirmation if im to fully believe what ive read in VMX magazine issues 1 - 20 something. nice.
cool little gearbox, its going to look v.period correct, I like the look of the pocket valve engine thats in the pipeline, any ideas which one it will sit behind yet?
Building a home made Olds engine by Stu Martyn PART 1. Dont print it its 36 pages long but a good read. on how he built a 1901 oldsmoble engine Peter from england
Im from Australia, i have had that from so many usa sellers on ebay and other selling sites, not once or twice but hundreds of times, it makes me so cross. The reaction from most of the sellers is: 1/ Its too hard to organise. 2/ Why should i bother it will sell to a usa person with no further headaches. 3/ Dont trust you. 4/ takes to long for paypal 5/ we only sell to usa byers because patriotic. I dont know why your seller from the gb wouldnt sell to you, but what i can say is that the attitude by many of your countrymen does annoy most hobbiests worldwide. My interest is cars, ham radio, electronics etc, so nothing special. Please dont take offence at my comments as its not intended at you, more so your countrymen. On shipping! I dont understand why the usa is the most expensive shipping country in the world, it quite ludicrous actually. Most of the time its 100% in addition to the purchase price, if your lucky. Europe, Asia, south America, its around 20% add on.
Mr. Jonathan, it seems good people attract good people. thank you for all your videos, insight, and patience. rgrds, walt

Looks like a piece of clever construction!

I'm in the tampa bay area, if i can ever help with anything, let me know!
They won't ship it because of ebay policies, taxes/duties, insurance, feedback, tracking number, ect.
