Hey bro... thanks! Glad you found us too... So funny you ask about the Ultimate Kit... cause I just got one... I have been trying to review all of the 2012 BG gear first and then go back to the 2011 releases... but I just put it in the Fall production schedule today... there are like 10 other knives and gear in from of it... but we'll get there. Snare and traps... I should do a series on this... but yes... maybe I will do this and that for you when I do the review though. Good ideas! Thx ~ David
Hey Dominik. I am working on a series for building a survival kit... but it won't be out for a month or two... for now, I recommend you get the book, "Build the Perfect Bug Out Bag" from Amazon. It's like $12 and will help you decide what you need based on your objectives and the amount of time you design your survival kit to last you in an emergency or crisis. Hope this helps. ~David
I actually have not reviewed the Basic Survival Kit yet. Mine is on the way. I am working on our review of the Ultimate Kit though... just shot photos today. Hope this helps for now. ~David
Just reviewed the Basic kit. I like the value of the basic kit a bit better... actually the best kit is combining these 2... hope Gerber does something like that in the future. Later. ~David
Hey, Thanks for the comment. I thought the same thing... then I ran the numbers. If you watched my review the whole way through you saw the conservative pricing I gave each component of in the kit... I added it all up and it came out to be a fair value for the money. Could you get some of this stuff in the dollar store? Sure. That doesn't devalue the product though. It's a good value. Oh... and the button compass fits perfectly inside the tape hole thus saving space in the kit. ~ David
Thanks Shon... yes... I tried even mic I had... and even a studio mic from Samson... all were terrible in the end... then I invested in the Blue Yeti this summer... so all of my more recent videos should sound a LOT better. Good ears... are you a sound guy? Take care bro! ~David
I'm heading to Dicks Sporting goods right now, I love the compact scout knife so much I've had mine for a year and half of very use. It's still in my edc setup. Thanks again for a great review.
That would be so cool. I bought the bear grylls ultimate survival knife thanks to you as my first survival knife and i haven't looked back. Thank you for helping me choose the right knife.
I just want to tell you UltimateSurvivalTips, you do such a good job doing these reviews and i hope you earn something for it because these are really professional ! Thank you from a norwegian viking, happy holidays !
Do you think that the reason water got in on the sink test is because the brick was squeezing the container open a little bit? I wonder if you'd get the same result if you were to just hold it under with your hand or something that won't put pressure on the container.
Dave you can put some petroleum jelly around the top of case for that little bit extra sealing out of water and it will work as fuel on improvised tinder.
Keep on me... for sure... but I am developing a series on how to build an emergency kit and BOB... so I expect to have it done sometime before the middle of November... wanna do it right... I'm a bit of a perfectionist... if you hadn't noticed... Blessings to you friend. ~ David
I would take the Prodigy for Survival Tactical... but I would that the LMF II over the Prodigy... for plain wilderness survival and bushcraft... the SCHF9 hands down. I have small hands too. Hope this helps! ~David
Hey... I hope to start rolling out 2 - 3 videos a week... starting next week... I have cool NEW knives and gear coming in almost every day now and need to share the coolness with you guys. I've been out of the studio for a couple of weeks doing some other stuff... but I'm back now. Stand by... more revs on the way. Kind regards. ~ David
I can't believe that something with the big orange BG on it actually does look pretty decent. I love that the case doubles as 2 water containers! You sound like a pro, no "um" "uh" and whatnot. New subscriber here. Thanks!
That's a hard question because I have many knives for different purposes. I am testing and carrying the Schrade 1st Response folding knife right now... It's my current carry-all blade... it tough and I like the belt clip... never slips off... Only comes off when I want it too... although I still have my Gerber Covert close by, just in case. I still tend to always grab my LMF II ASEK when I need a survival knife... I have fire steel the BG Micro torch attached to it. ~David
Not a bad idea. Yeah... I agree that the BG Ultimate is a much more rounded kit. Thanks for the comment. Let me know how it goes, fitting the gear in this case, if you go that route. Later. ~David
Very professional review, I'm usually left asking questions about things by other reviews but you answered everything I needed to know. I actually was curious about where I could get one that didn't require me to buy online. You have one new subscriber
Hmmm... should I share or surprise you? Well here is what I am thinking of releasing in the next three weeks... how about that? BG Hands-Free Torch, Cold Steel SRK, Schrade Extreme Survival knife - fine edge, BG Compact Scout knife, SOG Creed (Wow! What a beautiful knife!), Gerber Silver Trident, Water Bob, SpotLight Adventure Flashlight, How to Sharpen a Knife - Part 1 of 5 (using a stone), Smiths Pocket Pal... What do you think? What would you like to see first? ~ David
Thanks. I have quite a bit of Gerber Gear for my survival pack or "Bug Out Bag". The only problem i've come across the kit was that the needle and thread that comes with it, you can't fit the thread through the eye hole of the needle. So far that's the only problem i've come across with that kit. Little things here and there but not too bad. Hope to see those reviews soon. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your videos and survival gear reviews. They are, in my opinion, honest and true. I appreciate the high quality in the production and cinematography. I do have one minor suggestion, your voice comes out very tin'ey. You might want to add a little low end eq in the production. God bless,
Great vid David. Wish it came with full size Scout instead of the compact Scout, with fire steel instead of matches & some para-cored. Then it would truly be the Scout Essentials Kit.
I will have to say that your videos are awesome! and have one suggestion... that you make a video of just the few essentials that you would need to make an effective home made survival kit! that would be awesome if you did!
I've had the scout knife for a few months now and it has proved to be an excellent pocket knife. I don't have this kit as I usually build my own more extensive kits. This one is better than nothing though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Despite the frequent low reviews the Bear Grylls brand gets on their other products, this one seems to have more serious work put into it than usual. I like these: - butterfly closures - it's rare to see those in a compact first aid kit. Those are good for when you have a nasty cut and blood is RUNNING down your arm like a faucet. I paid $20 for a first aid kit once and it didn't have these! - The case looks very strong and I'm amazed that it's somewhat waterproof. Most cases designed like that have an annoying gap that makes a rattling sound when you shake it. I would still feel tempted to drill a tiny hole in the bottom to drain water and use the top as a cup in an emergency - They give you a button compass that is TWICE as large as normal. The first aid kit I bought had one but it was only slightly bigger than my thumbnail. Very easy to lose. - The tips guide is plastic. That's nice and it makes it easier to use the printed ruler if you need it. Remember, the ruler can be handy when trying to gauge distances on a map or to calculate waypoints. - Despite the reviewer wishing for fire steel, I think they give you a lot of matches. You can never have too many! The two first aid kits I bought have fewer than this combined! Overall, would I buy anything that said Bear Grylls? For this kit, I'll make an exception and say yes.
Really? Which video... I must have been thinking out loud... Funny... Well as a matter of fact..We are considering a line of survival knives for potential release in 2014... but nothing is set in stone at this point. Thanks Tom. Take care! ~David
The only thing I think would be cool is if it had a seat belt cutter,a window breaker, some serrations, and it could maybe also have perhaps a guard over the handle coming from the hilt and connecting to the handle, and it could also have some brass knuckles(if they were legal as a weapon),as well as having a hollow handle to put some survival gear in as well...I know, that seems like a lot of stuff that I want to add however I really don't feel it is and I love the knife. just would be cool is all
You could take a waterproof bag and put both this kit and the basic survival kit in it. It could make a nice compact medium grade kit for EDC or to keep in a car in case of a emergency.
*If anyone is looking to buy survival kit, before you buy it, checkout the review on my blog first at www(dot)inspirereviews(dot)com/survival-kit-review/, don't buy before you read my review. Oliver.*
That's kinda sad really... to be a Scout is to be responsible enough to safely and responsibly use a knife... When I was a Scout - like forever ago... I think we were allowed up to 2 1/2" drop point blades... Having my first Boy Scout knife was an honor. I was so proud that when showing a friend how sharp it was, I literally sliced my finger open... demonstrating... maybe the reason Scouts can't have knives now is my fault! :) Take care. ~David
I'm a Boy Scout and my favorite kit is the hybrid 3 sol because it has a med kit and more than enough tools and is small enough to fit in my day pack. Also it has emergency survival tools to great kit perfect for Boy Scouts hybrid 3 sol. 43$
I'm a Boy Scout and I commonly carry a Buck 110. In my scout troop, they encourage knives, so i usually (like incptori) bring about three. We show them off all the time and nobody has any trouble with it. Of course, this is Tennessee (let the stereotype jokes begin), so I guess we have a different cultural personality.
I'm glad i came across your channel. You do awesome reviews. Just curious if you're ever going to do a review on the Gerber ultimate survival kit, and if so, could you show what you would do with that kit like from snares, making a fire, improvise things pretty much.
One thing I thought of was the possibility of taking the Bear Grylls Ultimat or Basic survival kits, and fitting them into this case. The case is awesome but the contents are lacking. However the ultimate Survival kit is awesome but the case is not as good as the scout case.
Set in stone... Like an Excalibur knife? Well, I hope you carefully consider what would be most "worthy" before releasing, but after watching a few of your videos it sounds like you have a good understanding. If you do release your own products, I'd personally like a survival/first-aid style kit that would be suitable for a wife who is pretty far from an experienced camper BUT could use a car kit or something in case of emergency. A guide like Bear Grylls' would be essential to fight panic.
this kit is good but what should be in every survival kit is a set of fishing line and hooks this is one of the most useful items you could have in a kit
thank you for replying to both of my comments but i cant really afford to buy anything online as the wait would be horrible and as i live in Ireland the conversion might cost more. but thank you anyway for replying hope you have a good weekend
Great comment! Thanks for the encouragement! ~David
Hey, thanks for the comment. Yeah, I get excited pretty easy... It's my style... Take care. ~David

See 😋
Looks and feels nice. Gerber did a nice job with it. Thanks for the comment. ~David

Good points... the kit would certainly have to be larger then... But I pretty much agree. Thanks for the comment Richard! ~David
I actually have not reviewed the Basic Survival Kit yet. Mine is on the way. I am working on our review of the Ultimate Kit though... just shot photos today. Hope this helps for now. ~David
It's my pleasure! Blessings. ~David
Good catch! It's not up yet. Coming soon! Stand by... ~David
Just reviewed the Basic kit. I like the value of the basic kit a bit better... actually the best kit is combining these 2... hope Gerber does something like that in the future. Later. ~David
I agree. I think they could have fit. Take care! ~David

Yes! A Norwegian Viking!!! Cool! Thank you for the encouragement! ~David
For sure. ~David
The Basic Kit is actually a pretty good deal... I think the best deal of the bunch... Review coming soon. Thanks ~ David
Water purification tablets would be useful
Although i love the Bear Grylls line of products, I still believe building your own survival kit is best way to go.
Absolutely!!!
Agree but no time
You're correct. This is just generic. The best kit is the one you build for your own needs.
Thanks bro! Have a great day! ~ David
Looks like a solid starter kit
Thanks Mike! ~David
Indeed.
That would be so cool. I bought the bear grylls ultimate survival knife thanks to you as my first survival knife and i haven't looked back. Thank you for helping me choose the right knife.
Its nice to know that bear grills supports boy scouts!
why does everybody spell bear grylls wrong?
John A Jimenez
U r saying that to us when u can't even spell his name right u forgot caps.
Wow, why is everyone hating on my comment i made when i was like 12, im 15 now and im still getting hate. The internet is such a great place.
John A Jimenez don't worry man we all make mistakes
John A Jimenez when i was a scout i got to meet him
Looks like an advertisement to me, but seemes honest and true, unlike most ads out there
I started with the folding knife its just so reliable I am currently buying all the products and your videos really helped thanx
this can really help since i'm a scout
I just want to tell you UltimateSurvivalTips, you do such a good job doing these reviews and i hope you earn something for it because these are really professional ! Thank you from a norwegian viking, happy holidays !

MooCowManHG that's what I was wondering too.
Thanks bro! ~David
Thanks bro... Haa... or even good quality duct tape... and they they could reuse it in a pinch. Take care. ~ David
what are matches for if Bear prefers to eat his food raw anyway?
Ye Olde Salt warmth
More than one use for a fire sir
Dave you can put some petroleum jelly around the top of case for that little bit extra sealing out of water and it will work as fuel on improvised tinder.

Everyone hates on BG but he was my inspiration to learn about survival and preparing
A small zip lock/sandwich bag will also help keep the water out as an extra option!
Thanks. I have quite a bit of Gerber Gear for my survival pack or "Bug Out Bag". Great vid David. Wish it came with full size Scout instead of the compact Scout, with fire steel instead of matches & some para-cored. Then it would truly be the Scout Essentials Kit.
thanks for reviewing the bear grylls line of products it has really helped me decide if i should buy them.
I am a scout this looks great! Just ordered one!
I brought this kit with me on a two week scout camp and I would really recommend it :)
I will have to say that your videos are awesome! and have one suggestion... that you make a video of just the few essentials that you would need to make an effective home made survival kit! that would be awesome if you did!

my most favorite thing about gerber bear grylls equipment is that it shkws you how to do stuff on the back of it!
love this. easily made fully waterproof and extremeley multifunctional
Thank you for the review, myou did an excellent job!!
Hmmm... it would be trial and error... Maybe...
The only thing I think would be cool is if it had a seat belt cutter,a window breaker, some serrations, and it could maybe also have perhaps a guard over the handle coming from the hilt and connecting to the handle, and it could also have some brass knuckles(if they were legal as a weapon),as well as having a hollow handle to put some survival gear in as well...I know, that seems like a lot of stuff that I want to add however I really don't feel it is and I love the knife. just would be cool is all
My new favourite UA-cam channel!!
Thanks for the detailed review mate! I’m buying this thanks to your review.
This is my kit i use for EDC
Big Lez I
man it would be cool if bear did a day or two using each kit to show that that's all the basics :D
Thanks man!
I don't know how bear is but the kit is kind of useful in someways
You could take a waterproof bag and put both this kit and the basic survival kit in it. It could make a nice compact medium grade kit for EDC or to keep in a car in case of a emergency.

Fine review David! I'm sure anyone could add a little electrical tape to the outer box to make it waterproof, easy fix. Nicely done video as usual.
May get one or two (one for the case) and add some stuff. Water tablets, mirror, magnifying glass, etc. ...
i have this kit and it is great!
I'm a Boy Scout and I commonly carry a Buck 110. In my scout troop, they encourage knives, so i usually (like incptori) bring about three. just add a small tarp for shelter in a bag, and it would work well.
I love knives
poke monkid and.... Kaaaaazzzzoooooooo!
Vztec v1 you can do it just kazoo it!
I love matches me and my brother made a fire under the house when I was 8 and the fire engine came
Eww, get a girlfriend
Great kit maby I would add a blanket and a Water Proof table cloth for a roof
I'm glad i came across your channel. You do awesome reviews. Just curious if you're ever going to do a review on the Gerber ultimate survival kit, and if so, could you show what you would do with that kit like from snares, making a fire, improvise things pretty much.
YAAAY. FINALLY DID IT!
Ok Thanks David for the reply! You do such great vids it is the highlight of my week on UA-cam lol! Keep it up awesome vids!!

This Is Nice And I Think It Should've Added Some Cotton Balls For Tinder But Still
4/5 Stars.

As a scout in Finland, we´re allowed to bring as manu knives as we want after we´ve turned 9 years old...
I'd like it if they'd sell the packages of the survival kit without the stuff so you can add what you want.
I like it. Very nice kit to put in your EDC.
Thanks for the review, I think all survival kits should have a whistle. no matter what else is in it
+Marin Mazer Im a Boy Scout and I have a Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate knife and it has the loudest whistle ive used so far.
ok, good, mention that in your videos, because people will want to know what you bring, so they can bring what you have. a whistle is paramount
Marin Mazer i dont make videos
???? maybe you don't make survival kits???
+Marin Mazer He's not the one that made this video.
Awesome... aren't you sad... it's not going to be much of a surprise... :) ~ David
You do really nice, thorough reviews
great reviews I just subscribed because you never know..... BE PREPARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BG line up I'm Not a fan. But this is the best kit I've seen.
It's fantastic for scouts.
thank you for replying to both of my comments but i cant really afford to buy anything online as the wait would be horrible and as i live in Ireland the conversion might cost more. but thank you anyway for replying hope you have a good weekend
Good idea! Thanks for the input!
Amazon don't have the best price for me. They shipping cost It's not a deal. I always prefer e-Bay.
