Trimming My Woody Lavender Topiaries After Flowering

- In this video, I’m trimming my imperfect woody lavender topiaries after they’ve finished flowering. I show you two ways to trim them: a quick way and a more relaxing, meditative way. These topiaries are my solution to what were very overgrown, woody lavender plants. I also give you a mini-tour of the garden bed - the good AND the bad in mid-August!

For lavender pruning questions, please see my How to Prune Lavender Video: ua-cam.com/video/WYhJDX4soDs/v-deo.htmlsi=HcRoJA-tigLC_06E This video walks you through the steps with many close-up shots! I hope this helps answer any lavender pruning questions you have!
Glad you held off pruning those last pieces a few months ago , did much grow through those areas .
Lavender Phenomenal is actually phenomenal. Love it! I grow it in zone 8a Greenville, South Carolina where it gracefully repels mosquitoes as it rims my terrace, making outdoor living more comfortable.
Great point Kathryn! 👍 That’s one of the reasons I love it by our front entrance where we like to sit - repels those nasty mosquitoes 🦟 while smelling SO good! 😀💜
👋🏾 on to watching 😊
Thanks Gail! 🌱
I pruned my lavender pretty aggressively this spring using your advice and was amazed at the new growth that pushed down in the woody base. My lavender is only a few years old, but wow! I even had excellent results on a large, decade old clump that I was going to remove.
That’s wonderful! And I’m thrilled with your results, as I imagine you are too! I’m always going to be aggressive in my pruning (of lavender) from now on! Thank you for letting me know! 💜🌱😀
Very helpful! Thank you Anita
You’re welcome Anita! 💜🌱
Absolutely/ one by one the best
Glad you agree Mary - along with the lavender scent, it is so relaxing to take my time! 👍
Hi Laura. My Kramer’s red are doing phenomenal since I planted this past Spring. Did you ever make a video on how to prune them? I noticed they pretty much clean themselves after finish blooming. They also have grown a bit but look pretty as is.
Hi Sammy! So happy that your Kramer’s Red Winter Heath are doing well! You previously asked if I had a pruning video and I directed you to that video! 😀 Search my channel in my Pruning and Deadheading playlist and you’ll find it there! 🩷
Thanks for sharing your pruning tips. I'm also in zone 7, are you in 7a or 7b ?
You always answer my questions before I get to ask, my lavender looks like yours and I still have a few bees visiting so I guess I’ll leave them bee 😂, okay I do have another question, after removing the stems and getting new growth before fall do I still do the hard pruning in the spring or should I do it now as mine are kind of woody as I didn’t know to prune them and it’s been years thanks in advance
Blessings 💜💚
“Leave them bee” 😂🐝 You can prune in Fall, just make sure you do it at least 6 weeks before the first frost in your area. Then you can trim them up in the Spring.
@@GardenSanity thanks again, that might work better for me I’m in zone 6
Blessings 💜💚
in the beginning, what are the shrubs behind you in front of your window? tia
