Thank you for the video!! I ordered the items mentioned in the video and 2 hours later my husband and I successfully fixed his radio!! I was so worried when we started breaking the glass off that it wouldn’t work but it just requires a lot of patience. The quote I received from the dealership to repair it was $900 so I was very happy we fixed it ourselves.
I'm so glad I came across this video. My 2017 GMC Sierra Radio has been randomly changing stations/pressing buttons by itself and ultimately the touch screen stopped working. I just ordered the replacement parts. My dealer wanted $1000+ to fix this. Thank you for making this video!
I have a 2018 GMC Sierra and replaced the digitizer in it two weeks ago. The worst part for me was getting the old glue off of the frame. The touchscreen works perfectly now.
Another 2018 Colorado ghosting digitizer replaced! Excellent video. It gave me the confidence to make the repair on my own. I ran into two issues. Even with a heat gun, the adhesive was just a bear to removed, mine took about an hour. However, my new digitizer came with pre applied adhesive, so save me some time. My second issue was the first replacement did not work. What a scare, after I rebuilt everything. The LCD screen came on, but the touchscreen did not work. Returned and replaced the first unit through Amazon and the second unit works like a charm. Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video.
You’re removing the bezel the hard way. A simple finger pull at the lower corners near the seat heating controls and toggle switches works and eliminates the need for a pry tool. Several videos on YT already out there that show how to do it easily.
Would like to add my thanx for your video. My screen had been going nuts for a couple of weeks and I checked this video, ordered the part ($27.00) and fixed the problem. I would like to add that, during the period that the screen was flaking out, I saw a whole bundle of stuff that it was capable of doing while having the spasms. Impressive!
The glue you used was not necessary. The glue was behind the protector and you did not take the yellow colored tape off of it to apply it. Now your yellow protective tape is applied to the glue. Cleaning the face plate as you did was a must but before applying the new digitizer. Just remove the yellow tape and apply exposed mastic down to the metal ring after aligning it well. The yellow tape is covering your manufacturors mastic/glue, I hope this helps in the future.
I saw on another video where someone said spray pledge on a cloth and clean the screen.. I said what the hell and tried it and believe it or not, it worked! that was three days ago, and so far it has been good! Will see if it last long term, but why not try it? Could save you a lot of trouble.
My 2015 Silverado started doing the same thing . Simple fix , unplug radio fuse , Wipe down screen with Pledge furniture polish spraying pledge on the cleaning cloth and going over the entire screen ,then plug fuse back in . The pledge removes the static buildup causing the problem . My radio has been working problem free over4 months so far .( Spray can pledge was used).
Works! I had a 2016 Silverado 2500 with the crazy screen problem. totaled it unfortunately and got another same truck but 2018 with same problem. I just did this and it's working so far. So stoked! Taking the old screen off was a little work and a glass mess but got it done. I put the screen on the wrong way the first time so take your time and pictures. Took about 30-40 minutes of rme but I had all the tools. Also my screen was 26$ and came with adhesive already on it but I got the elmers roll tape thing he suggested. I suggest while you have the bezel off install a coarse motor sport magnetic phone mount! Thanks man!
So you just got a replacement screen from GM? Sorry for the dumb question. Yes having same problem with my 17. Glad I found this. It's just getting worse. Thanks.
2019 silverado LD had the problem, I took the touch screen assembly put of the bezel and it was very dirty with grit that worked its way in behind the bezel. Cleaned it real good and put it back together, hasn't given me any problems. Your mileage may vary, but you might try it before ordering anything.
Was having the same symptoms in my 2018 Chevy Silverado HD. The digitizer fixed the problems with the music / radio, also some strange dash messages as well. The reason i am commenting is to say that it was a great video - but be careful to put the new one in correctly. I had the new digitizer screen with the ribbon cable on the wrong side. Since the glue did not permanently set, i was able to get it off and flip it without breaking the new one. Line things up with the case and dash mount BEFORE you set it on the glue!
i will save this video, I don't really want to change this out in the middle of summer in FL, but if i have to in order to save 900 bucks i sure will if it won't last until fall. thank you.
Man… I am thankful that you made this video. I ordered my digitizer and it comes today. I don’t think I have the skills to do it myself. I am paying a guy $100 to do it for me. Is that a good deal?
@@nathanhawley8381 I sprayed mine with pledge wax like someone on here suggested and it has worked for three days now. you might give it a shot. could save you a lot of trouble.
Need to make people aware of being very cautious about putting the back plate back on and nor damaging the little prongs sticking up on the circuit board.... Ask me how i know...LOL
Unfortunately these series of truck have to started to rust I have a 14 crew cab Chevy it’s rust free so far always owned GM trucks but the 14 is it I’m switching to Toyota I have a 19 Equicrap the steering wheel radio controls have screwed up 2 times try and change the stations is will just roll through the presets will stop radio shuts down restarts then okay I have a 2005 Equicrap that our daughters drove when they got their license the front engine and transmission cradle mount points rotted away leaving only 2 main bolts holding the engine and transmission in the car called GM they told me sorry it’s too old so much for safety that’s why I’m switching to Toyota
My truck is changing Pandora stations repeatedly, changes screens, changes apps and starts them, and also sends text messages to my contacts with ETA’s and stops me from logging on! Will changing the 8” touch screen digitizer solve all of these problems?

I, too, thought when the glass broke that it was all over but luck I didn't hurt the screen.

@@gacdetailgarage4685 crazy, huh? I am wondering if it is some sort of static electricity thing.

Did you try anything else before pledge? I just tried glass cleaner and that didn’t help. Might be ok after doing the fuse.
@@rjsewell4844 Pledge has anti static in it ,and removes the static buildup on the touch screen .
That sounds way easier than replacing the digitizer. Is it still working?

May I ask what was the best method for getting the old glue off? scraper? Alcohol wipes? Thanks!
i used a plastic scraper but it left some. I was worried about chemicals

Yes, the dealer price for the job is close to 1k. getting the old glass off is the worst part
Where are you located? I don’t think I can do it myself
Does anyone know if this works with the 2017 gmc sierra with the bose sound system ? Thanks in advance
2017 Chevy Silverado same thing happens. I guess I will be trying to fix it.
Do you have a link for a new one for a 2019 Chevy Tahoe doing the same thing?
amzn.to/43bI4Ys This one says it fits but I'd check before ordering. All others stop at 2018, this one says 2019 so i'm not sure
The screen linked to Amazon is not available, any other suggestions? LCD or No LCD? What’s the difference
Thanks for the video will be attempting!

On the 72 yes, not on the 17
Did you have to reprogram anything?
I did not, it was plug and play
