I was at this game v. Rutgers and waited for Lou to emerge from locker room and go to his car. He stopped and took a picture with me. It will forever hang in my home. My son, born several years after Lou left, is named Joseph Louis Holtz Hughes.
Coach Holtz sent me a letter in 1992 - I was a junior in HS and I had wish him good luck against Florida ahead of time - he replied saying it looked like it worked, and thank you, signed it and sent me a personalized photo autographed to me, I can never thank him enough for that, I will treasure that piece til the day I die.
Hard to see, but at the 5:29 mark I am the guy in the royal blue coat and white hat, just over Farmer's left shoulder ready to give Robert a big bear hug. We had seats on the bleachers ON THE FIELD for Lou's last game since the expansion did not happen until the 1997 season. What a rush and then Lou came over to the student section right behind us for his last speech as ND coach. I will remember it forever. If anyone knows where I can see a bit more video from after the TD please let me know
They don't Make men like Lou anymore... we have been through tough times as Americans lately, I hope the silver lining will be men and woman become more like the people from Lou's generation....
That team almost beat Charlie ward and the Seminole's ...I was so upset I cried when they lost as a kid ... I still have my ND Starter Jacket ❤Lou Holtz was the best... If you wrote a great book or script the coach would embody Lou Holtz ❤😂
I’m annoyed Holtz didn’t stay one more year to break Rockne’s record. Brian Kelley stayed just long enough, to make sure he did. I don’t blame him; he gave the Irish some good years, but I don’t think he identified with Notre Dame the way Lou Holtz did. Holtz will always be a legend, but Kelley will be just another coach.
Well he is closer to a national title now at LSU than he had at Notre Dame even when he did make to the BCS title game then ran into the Alabama Saban dynasty which was just unstoppable then. I was really rooting for them that year but fate had a different opinion and the luck they had just wasn’t there.

Awesome!
Notre dame will always love Lou.
I was at that game! Man, he was a great coach! Rock on Coach Holtz!
Never should have let Lou go!

His mantra, Can I trust you? Do you care? and Are you committed to excellence?
Looking back, it was a mistake to let Holtz go...
