    Also a Lavendula fan. On my way back from the Straits today, I took a chance & picked up a blooming & budded lavender topiary. Hoping I have enough indoor sun to keep it healthy through the winter. Most of my garden soil is derived from wood chips dropped at our nursery by tree trimmers. Free for my taking, after a couple, 3 years of piled high composting it's very good stuff.

    I love how you pair edible plants with flowers ❤ Can't wait for a garden tour! I sympathize with you, bringing in soil. We moved to "the rock" Newfoundland last year and I cannot believe how many rocks there are every time you put a shovel in the ground! Raised beds are definitely the best way to conquer the rocks :)

    • @lakemichigan6598
      @lakemichigan6598 3 роки тому +1

      I don't have to deal with rocks in my yard, just a heavy clay soil - but in its own way clay can be just as difficult a gardening foe as your ever present stones are.
      So in response, I turned to raised beds too.

      I lived in a little town called Rochester Washington, and we called it "Rockchester". Every year we had to re- dig rocks. It was like the earth was literally birthing rocks. Now I'm stuck with horrible clay...

    • @lakemichigan6598
      @lakemichigan6598 3 роки тому +1

      @@mfr336 There are rocky areas like yours here in Michigan too. Ours are glacial in origin - and it's the winter frost in the ground that can go down 3' or more that brings them up. Here you'll often see large stand alone piles of stones gathered & added to by farmers each spring when, it seems all of a sudden, their fields have become littered with rocks.

    Joel...lol...😂while my husband and I love gardening together, he doesn't lay awake at night fomenting plans for our garden either, that's my job. And my darling husband doesn't like weeding either -- who does?🤷‍♀️
    I think our biggest disappointment is the black hollyhock. We have tried plants and seeds and NONE of them have produced the elusive and much desired bloom. My biggest triumph? The Western Redbud! I thought she was dead, moved her twice, had to chop her to the nub due to some bug -- but "The Stick" (my nick name for it) that came from the stump has finally budded!💕

It has never damaged our gardens. Thanks for the informative video. Would you consider showing us how you can or put up your food from the gardens? I have been canning this summer. Love your gardens. I too love David Austin roses. I only have one so far, though I have 7 different roses and still getting more! More D.A. will be on their way too. Having lived in Shropshire for 15 years, I did get the opportunity to visit the David Austin nursery and garden centre. LOVE the gardens there. I live in Wales now but I will always visit the David Austin section of my local garden centre and plan which ones I will be getting next. I adore cottage garden flowers. Unfortunately, so do the slugs! Since I refuse to use pesticides, I learn to live with them and work around them. I never start seeds in the ground...always is the potting shed and then when they are large enough, THEN they go out. I just can't live without lavender.

    I love David Austin roses, but must admit that we have wild roses here, and they have put the fear of roses into me. They spread all over and are the dickens to get rid of. I think they probably have three times the thorns of any other known plant as well. I was wondering if you are still making plans of redoing the small buildings into your EuroVillage? If so will your garden wind it's way back to that area? I have started lavender several times but they keep winter killing. Maybe some tips to help with that, and perhaps I am not planting the best varieties. I'm also having issues with cabbages. They will not form a head, just a lot of loose leaves. Now if I could raise a decent cabbage patch, that might require having a rose in the center of that bed. For whatever reason, I feel like cabbages and roses need each other

      Lavender is not the toughest of perennials but the Mundstead strain is pretty hardy, perhaps the hardiest of them all. Zone 5, I believe.
      The stunningly beautiful varieties of lavender famously field grown in the South of France for their fragrance could not survive the wind & the cold of an American Midwest winter.

      My cabbage went capoot. We bought 2 big cabbages and the rest were looser leafed flat head Dutch cabbage. The Dutch cabbage were decimated by cabbage worms. But the other cabbages had formed about soft ball sized tight heads. I think maybe the big cabbages would have gotten bigger if I hadn't pulled them but I was discouraged with the Catapillars. But I did get alot of good leaves. Just wait they'll do better. We watered ours alot in the evening and have fertilizer. I wish I knew the secret to cabbage but I know I'll never get flat head Dutch cabbage ever again.

      I had two of them on my roses and picked them off with tongs and put them into good soapy dish soap. They say if you see them pick them off or they attract others. I haven't seen anymore thank G-d.

    Please how do you make your cakes and frostings with no sugar. I’m allergic to artificial sweeteners so that is a no.

      It's where I do break down and use organic sugar. But we hardly EVER do so. You could try rapadura?

    Why did you quit talking about the Benefits of essential oils and the products of Doterra?

      I slowly weaned off talking about them here last year because I wanted the channel to focus on garden and design knowing that my new magazine was coming to fruition this year. I am still very much active in doTERRA:)

    Your dress is beautiful, I love polka dots. I love your channel and your content! If I could make one comment, it is so hard to concentrate on what you are saying with the music in the background... :( I hope you won't take offense.

      You're UNBELIEVABLY rude. Simply fast forward. Basically, you believe I should entertain you, but not get paid for it. Do you have ANY idea of the hours that go into making a UA-cam video? That would be a GROSS vanity to spend so much time in front of the camera, away from my children, and not be compensated for it. You're DARN RIGHT I will do an ad for a company that makes a product here in America, offers me a discount on something our family needed (like a guest bedroom mattress), and then will compensate me for talking about it. DO YOU WORK FOR FREE? I didn't think so. Back when I was apparently, "true to myself" I was diligently building my channel, working COUNTLESS unpaid hours a week so that SOMEDAY (today) I could be compensated for my creativity. I put in the work and now I get to reap the benefits. --- It's sad, only women say this kind of garbage to each other. Men have no problem earning income or watching others do likewise.
