Nobody warned me about this! I had such a hard time and beat myself up as a new mom. Normalize talking about this!!

Normal. Day 2 babies feeding constantly. Just doing their job, getting the milk in. Horrific, though.
As a midwife, I warn the parents to try to minimise any visits, get rest when they can, and reassure that it is totally normal and will pass.

Omg yes! My second night was terrible. He was screaming all night and I kept thinking I made a terrible mistake. Turns out I was accidentally starving him. I told the nurses that I wasn’t seeing anything come out of my breast and they said that it’s impossible to not have colostrum. Well turns out I didn’t. We found out the next day when they weighed him, and he was almost a pound smaller. They put me on a breast pump for hours and nada! He got donor milk and was an angel baby after that. I still feel terrible about that. Later learned that if you hemorrhage during birth (I did), it can impact your milk production. My milk didn’t come in until 6 days later and only ever made about 1/4 of the amount he needed and then dried up only 8 weeks in. It was a horrible breastfeeding journey, especially because he latched perfectly and I never had any pain from it. I so wish I could’ve breastfed.

Similar situation. My youngest was tongue tied and burning more calories nursing (because he had to work so hard) than he was getting. I had to supplement with high calorie formula. While he did nurse some after having surgery to fix his tongue, it was not every feed and we had a hard time switching back and forth. I felt so guilty because his brother was nursed exclusively for 3 months and his sister for about 7. But you know what? Our babies were fed and in the end, we did our best. That’s all we could do! ❤️‍🩹🫶🏽

It’s consistently been the third night that’s the worst for our kids 😂😭 the hardest of our 7 was #5, he literally screamed from about 7pm until 5am. I was in tears for hours until I just went numb and emotionless, my husband lost a few beard and head hairs, and I swear sweet baby peeled some paint on the walls that night 😂 he’s almost 4 and the light of my life but good gravy that night scarred me for life LOL

Agree. But the first night I was in post-op so tje baby wasn't with me 😢 the second day and night were horrible, I was so desperate I agreed that nurses gave him formula. Thankfully, the third night was a bliss - he was eating every hour but quickly falling asleep and we really bonded❤

@@laceyfaulkner9029 3-4 days is a standard procedure in my country. To get help from the nurses I needed to agree that they will feed him formula. So I actually got more help from my husband at home (he could only visit me in the hospital)

Yup. My husband was terrified to miss work, and so not only was that second night rough, he went back to work.
I developed a high fever night 3, and he was scared of more medical bills so I took tylenol and curled up nursing the baby. He was beside himself, but still went back to work in the morning leaving me with three kids. His boss was a jerk. We have both matured in the decades since.
This is why I discourage anyone from having kids in their 20's.

Its hard but not impossible. My husband and I are both young and he also went back to work as soon as we got home from the hospital. We're figuring it out though! I don't think there's ever been this much love in this house❤

Ah yes, second night (and often third) syndrome 😂. Newborns are often super sleepy the first 24 hours or so but they wake up that second night and want to cluster feed for most of the night. It’s normal but tiring.

I think parents try to both stay up because they don't want to miss any of these initial moments. They are truly special, however when that level of exhaustion hits both of you at the same time, it's hell on Earth. I wish I would have switched on and off a bit better 😅

From a biological standpoint, why are newborns and babies so difficult? One would think mother nature would make These stages easy, so we would want to have children and reproduce. I have learned so much about pregnancy, birth, and post partum through this channel. I am amazed at the strength and fortitude women possess!

When we compare other members of the animal kingdom to ourselves, they embody "it takes a village." Most humans have to do so much of this journey on their own, meanwhile moms and family members of other species will help each other raise young. Someone will help care for the babies directly, others will be hunting, some will entertain the littles so mom can nap, etc. Humans rarely have that village.

Also... I told my nurse about one of your videos while I was in labor. We were talking about checking my dilation and it reminded me of the breech, 1cm story. We were cracking up.
Ma'am. Talk about foreshadowing! She went to check and I was baggy... And she could see his butt. I delivered him breech, vaginally on 6/7! 6 residents got to witness the birth, one graduating the next week got to catch him! Very cool experience even if my stitches grumble about it.

The second night was a nightmare hahaha my baby was ravenous and needed more than colostrum so they had me use donor milk but wouldn’t let me use a bottle so at 3 am I was sitting with a rubber gloved finger in my newborns mouth and had to pump syringe of donor milk into her mouth. They also wouldn’t let my husband help after he tried to help either 😂😅
