tbh, I see some of scenes where he first puts on Loki's mask as quasi-horror, but then they kinda over ride those with the fact the mask comes off I suppose.
I remember seeing this on a local UHF station in the 80’s. They had a special promotion where you got 3D glasses in the newspaper. They used some weird ass yellow and purple 3D glasses instead of the usual blue and red. They aired this movie on Saturday night, and then Sunday afternoon they had a 3D Kung-Fu movie which used the same glasses. I just realize some readers might non know about UHF Stations or Newspapers, and now I feel old.
The Kung-fu movie was "Dynasty", which now has its own PROPER Blu3D release, just like the Mask. (You did buy a 3DTV back in the 10's, didn't you, or at least kept your PS4?) The red/green glasses were only for TV broadcast, assuming you lived within a hundred miles of the then hard-to-find 7-Elevens.
I remember that exact same promotion and 3D glasses. Weren't the 3d glasses decorated similar to the mask? I remember staying up late with my dad on.that Saturday to watch the movie.
I love the mental image of an 11-year-old-Brad loaning his 6th grade teacher old black and white movies on VHS. There's something about that anecdote just that makes sense.
When I was a kid in the mid-1980's one of my local TV stations showed this on TV in 3D. They gave away the red/blue 3D glasses at local 7-11's. I remember kinda liking it and thought the 3D parts were actually not that bad.
I wish we could bring back this kind of marketing. I remember when the first Hostel movie came out the TV spots talked about paramedics being called to the theater.
I did a brief write-up about The Mask, along with other Canadian contributions to horror cinema, for Nerdbot back in 2018. Haven't thought about this movie since then.
I really liked the Mask in 3D on MST3k, or Kingavision. The effects were pretty great through most of it, they got a decent print. I feel kinda the same as you do, that it's repetitive but the surreal bits and atmosphere help quite a bit. Could've probably cut it down to an hour long Twilight Zone and it'd be AWESOME.
I kinda enjoyed the movie on this season of MST3K. The 3D effects worked surprisingly well and the weird acid trip nature of the 3D sequences really gave the movie a unique feel. Worth a watch riffed or unriffed especially if you can find a decent 3D print of the movie like the MT3K gang did.
I find it interesting how that mask looks like the mask from the comics that inspired the 1994 The Mask. And that mask was explicitly addictive and turned the wearer into a murderer.
Congrats, your thumbnail successfully baited me. For about 10 seconds, you made me believe that there could possibly be a 3D "The Mask" movie, that was perhaps made for some theme park attraction, like the Terminator thing.... ...Tell Tiny Tim I Won't Be Coming Home This Christmas...
I just saw this movie for the first time the other day thanks to MST3K 😎😎 those hallucination scenes made me laugh so much but it was so the best parts of the movie
I was thinking Manos, just before you said it :) And damn you for playing even a few seconds of the Silver Shamrock theme. It's gonna take weeks to get outta my head! Grrrr
Speaking of forgotten 60's films, you should look up *The Cabinet of Caligari (1962)* starring Dan O'Herlihy (speaking of *Halloween III)* It has some really effective scenes that would look fantastic in Real 3D. TCM has a wonderful widescreen HD print they occasionally show.
Huh. This actually looks like it'd make for a pretty good watch... Cigarette smoking, foggy bayous, firebending, and Burger King tie-ins! What's not to love?
Beast of Yucca Flats had a movie poster... it's funny it thinks it's a movie. "Special Guest Star Tor Johnson as the Beast." MJN: "Now that's just smart casting."
Fun fact: Comic "The Mask" on wich movie with Jim Carrey is based on, actually IS allegory for drugs. I wonder if creator of the the omic saw this old movie.
My heart dropped a bit when I saw Michael's face. Gee, who could've seen him as a... er... killer? (EDIT: Wait, that's *not* him?! I wonder how the casting call read?)
I have never really heard of this movie. It does look interesting, a dark and creepy metaphor for "Drug Addiction" with some great acting and moody atmosphere. While a bit hoaky at times, it does play it straight. But this is from seeing the footage here, I may need to give this movie a full watch if I ever come around it. Also, seeing this movie's "mask" was designed, I wonder if it helped inspire the "Dark Horse" comics which later became the hit Jim Carrey movie.
weird coincidence. this Mask-a Canadian horror movie. The Mask with Jim Carrey-starred a Canadian who starred in a horror movie before it. maybe not so much?
I have the original 13 ghost movie where one side has 2D and the other one has spector vision unfortunately it didn't come with 3D glasses but I made some of my own out of spare ones
Ahem, this is obviously a 4D film. The lead actor is clearly Billy Bob Thornton & the film was made by him & the Cohen Brothers traveling back in time. You're welcome...;)
FUTURE TOPIC: Meh movies being reimagined into TV series Earliest I’ve seen was Limitless, now getting ads for Fatal Attraction and now Dead Ringers Anyone tired Hollywood milking off of old properties?
I have always wanted a dark and gritty remake of the 90’s Jim Carry movie, turns out I already had it all along lol
We need jim carrey to come back for a sequel dammit!😂
I'm surprised that Corridor hadn't done a r-rated edit of Jim Carrey's Mask to make it more like the comic.
tbh, I see some of scenes where he first puts on Loki's mask as quasi-horror, but then they kinda over ride those with the fact the mask comes off I suppose.

I'm old enough to remember using tin foil to enhance the rabbit ears.
Ah back when my TV had 3 channels, and my Dad yelling at me was the remote.
I remember that exact same promotion and 3D glasses. Weren't the 3d glasses decorated similar to the mask? I remember staying up late with my dad on.that Saturday to watch the movie.
This episode was really fun and Brad seems like he enjoyed it too.
A new Snob episode is how I reward myself for making it through Monday.
Just stumbled across this guy He is legit funny AF.
I got Goosebumps: Piano Lessons Can Be Murder vibes from those disembodied hands. Not sure how I missed this gem, but I really want to see it.
I love the mental image of an 11-year-old-Brad loaning his 6th grade teacher old black and white movies on VHS. There's something about that anecdote just that makes sense.
P A R T....Why? Because I gotta!
Love that line
@@chasehedges6775 Look ma! I'm roadkill! Ha ha haah!
@@kdusel1991 😂😂
(Smacking the cops between their heads, then whispers) that’s gotta hurt!😂
HOLD ON TO YOUR LUG NUTS! IT'S TIIIIIIME FOR AN OVERHAAUUULLLL!!!
Something tells me a more tonally faithful adaptation of The Mask comic would’ve been right up Brad’s alley 👀
The Mask: Who's Laughin' Now
Starring Joaquin Phoenix
When I was a kid in the mid-1980's one of my local TV stations showed this on TV in 3D. They gave away the red/blue 3D glasses at local 7-11's. I remember kinda liking it and thought the 3D parts were actually not that bad.

“we’re back and it’s the 60s so even the desk has to be smoking.”😂😂😂
NEW CINEMA SNOB??!
Serotonin: 📈
I've been watching your videos all day. This was an unexpected treat. Thanks!
I did a brief write-up about The Mask, along with other Canadian contributions to horror cinema, for Nerdbot back in 2018. Haven't thought about this movie since then.

One of those floating skulls subsequently made it to solo stardom as the Skull of the Marquis de Sade, with Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing

This film looks awesome
I find it interesting how that mask looks like the mask from the comics that inspired the 1994 The Mask. And that mask was explicitly addictive and turned the wearer into a murderer.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It's very similar to the comics.
and there was no Cuban Pete
Congrats, your thumbnail successfully baited me.
For about 10 seconds, you made me believe that there could possibly be a 3D "The Mask" movie, that was perhaps made for some theme park attraction,
like the Terminator thing....
...Tell Tiny Tim I Won't Be Coming Home This Christmas...
Always a joy to be notified of new Cinema Snob material :)
Never even knew this was made or existed. Probably a good thing I was saved the agony
I just saw this movie for the first time the other day thanks to MST3K 😎😎 those hallucination scenes made me laugh so much but it was so the best parts of the movie
15:07 "I AM THE GOD OF HELL FIRE! AND I BRING YOU..."
Snob I know life is full of ups n downs but I hope you're having a good night 🐢
Don't step on koopas
I was thinking Manos, just before you said it :)
And damn you for playing even a few seconds of the Silver Shamrock theme. It's gonna take weeks to get outta my head! Grrrr
17:05 oh is that why Dylan Dog is always building his model ship that he will never ever complete.
Some good oI Cinema Snob to watch whilst I eat some Pretzel Crust Pizza Little Caesars finally brought back!
Thank, goodness.
I was afraid this was a sequel of Son of the Mask.
Tbh, aside from the obvious issues, I really want to watch this movie! It looks pretty cool!
The fact that you have a Sleepaway Camp movie poster, i envy you Brad. That poster is pretty intense with its warnings.
I still remember his outcries of "That's a dick!" and "You are sued! Fucking sued!"
There are faces in the wood panelling behind him. I can't unsee them.
Please do "The Changeling" (1980). It's the first Canadian horror film I saw, maybe even the first horror film I saw (either that or Child's Play)
So do you get to cowards corner from fraidy cat freeway or deserter drive?
An Electra Woman and Dyna Girl reference? Your best video ever.
Saw this recently on MST3K!!!
BEST MST3DK EPISODE EVER!
This movie has some amazing imagery.
The irony of making a metaphor for drug addiction while having your actors chain smoking through the entire movie.
Jim Moran!?
Wow! I didn't know my grandfather appeared in this!
Really neat SFX in the movie. Surprised it didn’t look half bad.
A Halloween 3 and Cats Eye reference. Nice.
5 minutes to live woupd be great!
Whenever i look at his white mask, all i can think of is We Happy Few.
19:53 nice reference to The Critic there
Oh I thought it was the actual mask film with jim carey
Hi, Brad. There is a modern 3D blu-ray released for this movie. You have to have a 3D tv and 3D blu-ray player to watch it.
I saw the title and was like, “They made a third one? In 3D?”
Nice to see a proper Snob episode!
I can't be the only one who compares it to the overly violent The Mask comics
We all know that the all time greatest canadian 3d movie was "Dr Tounges 3D house of pancakes"
I needed this today, thank you Brad
This is "hellraiser" 1961...no joke, think about it. Mask or puzzle box or ring or mirror whatever, same ideas.
Never heard about this movie. Looks interesting
Amazing
at least it's still better than son of the mask
We don't speak of that unholy abomination!
Wasn't this movie recently featured in the new season of MST3K?
Edit: Oh. So it is.
The Dark Horse comic on which The Mask 1994 was based on, was inspired by The Mask 3D.
Fun fact: Comic "The Mask" on wich movie with Jim Carrey is based on, actually IS allegory for drugs. I wonder if creator of the the omic saw this old movie.

Mr. Sardonicus is amazing
I remember this being on TV when I was a kid. I lost interest after learning it had nothing to do with the Mobile Armored Strike Kommand.
7:42 I swear to God that is the mask from PUMAMAN. 'Bring me a Caramello!'
The Mask (1994): "Smokin'!"
The Mask (1961): smoking.
You should do The Last of Sheila, I never laughed so hard
I just took my evening dose of Red Vein 𝑲𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒎! 🤘🤣🤣
I kinda feel a little uncultured for thinking this was a 3D remake of the one with the Loki mask and the whistling dog cartoon.
But when are you coming to Anaheim or LA cons???
There’s a lot of SSSS-SMOKIN’ in this movie. 😉
weird coincidence. this Mask-a Canadian horror movie. The Mask with Jim Carrey-starred a Canadian who starred in a horror movie before it. maybe not so much?
@cinemasnob I don't know if Lloyd makes any con appearance. But I would pay double to get a picture hold him. I love your kitties
I'm curious, why do the 60's episodes go on Channel Awesome site instead of Stoned Gremlin?
Can’t tell if the number of posters on the wall is increasing or if me not wearing my 3D glasses is making me see more than 2…
Hey, I used to have that Christine movie poster! Also, when is your Scream 2 review coming to UA-cam?
How do you shrink down posters?
Ah yes, the days when a well placed karate chop could take down almost everything.
This movie is really similar to The Mask comics, and the 1994 movie a little bit.
Cool review as always Snob 💯
I had that Elvira vhs of this in the 90’s . I don’t know what happened to it .
I have the original 13 ghost movie where one side has 2D and the other one has spector vision unfortunately it didn't come with 3D glasses but I made some of my own out of spare ones
Did the posters get smaller, or you made the jump to green screen?
*my stoned ass finally paying attention to this video at **8:59** in*
"The fuck is going on here?" 😐
grey mustache get an old there, Mr Snob
This movie at least had a lot of ssss-smokin'!
Ngl I clicked on this video because I thought the Jim Carrey Mask movie had a 3D version I didn't know about lol
What is it with guys named Michael and their masks???
This needs a modern remake(in 3d).
This sequel came out before the first one😮
Ahem, this is obviously a 4D film. The lead actor is clearly Billy Bob Thornton & the film was made by him & the Cohen Brothers traveling back in time. You're welcome...;)
The Cinema Snob has become the mask.
Now THIS is the last season of Stranger Things.
Oh man I thought this was the Jim Carrey mask
Could be worse. It could've been son of the mask 😂🤮🤮
The Best Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz movie.
hmmm4_4 impressive Goood show kinda nice
FUTURE TOPIC: Meh movies being reimagined into TV series
Earliest I’ve seen was Limitless, now getting ads for Fatal Attraction and now Dead Ringers
Anyone tired Hollywood milking off of old properties?
9:23 I'm almost positive I've seen a porno with that premise.
You tease the Mistress of the Dark you must now show the Mistress of the Dark its the law
