I live in Sarawak, East Malaysia and this was the only way for me to get the scores in the 80s. Thank you, and rest in peace.

BBC Radio and especially BBC Radio 5 Live, due to my Liverpool FC love, made me learn english on my own back in the age of 6 in 1987! Grew up with BBC 5 Live and James Alexander Gordon, Alan Green and co. on my young age years in Cyprus! Cheers to BBC!

RIP James. Fond memories of my old man telling us all to shut up as he checked his Pools coupon to your mellifluous tones. Your voice was part of the soundtrack of many people's childhood

So this is his face. I didn´t remember his name but I'll never forget the way he read the football results.

Thank you for the memories James. Life seemed so much simpler then, listening to the results with my dad.

Memories of running from the soccer field to listen to JAG. Waiting for my teams result. Magical memories. Thank you 😢

I remember sitting outside my cabin on a beach on Perhentian island, Malaysia in the mid-90's.It was about 1am and my friend and I, both Leyton Orient fans, were gathered around my Roberts short-wave radio listening to the scores. "Leyton Orient 1, Exeter City 0" came over the airwaves and we could finally get to bed. RIP JAG.

Having visited the Perhentians myself, I cracked a smile reading this. Thanks for sharing.

So many memories listening in, both near and far. I remember his voice over a crackle in northern India in 1996 - Charlton 2 Oxford 1 I think. Never mind. RIP.

Always loved tuning in for Sports Report on a Saturday. James Alexander Gordon nothing but a legend. Just really annoying that they got rid of the classified football results

I just now read that he passed away a long time ago. Since BBC radio cannot be heard in the Netherlands, we receive less and less. My father and I used to listen to BBC sports on the radio and at 4:30 PM the beautiful radio voice of James Alexander Gorden would always come on to read the scores for all divisions. He belongs to a piece of history in my life. We love, or rather loved, English football before the Multinationals and big-money sheikhs robbed football of its purity

Me and dad used to laugh about how you could predict the score from the way he read the first teams score. Happy memories.

You always knew if the other team had won drew or lost depending on the cadence of his voice.. Peterborough 1 *Swindon Town 2* !!

Does anyone know where we can hear the full list of football clubs say around 1955. I’m 74 and have the greatest wish to hear them spoken on the radio just as they were when l was about 7 or 8 years old. My mom would warn me every time to not make a sound whilst they were on and lt was more than my life’s worth if l ever did. I can remember a few names, Hartleypools ? Queens Park Rangers, Kilmarnock Wolverhampton. One beginning with O used to make me giggle ( quietly). We moved to Australia in 1967 and hearing those again would be wonderful.

Can someone tell me what tune is playing? Is it an Eric Coates composition?

Hi! Better late than never with an answer.... It does sound very Eric Coates but the name of the song is "Out of the Blue" written by Hubert Bath.
