    Traded in my 2013 Mercedes S550 for a '14 Model S, best decision ever- it is like going from a Blackberry to an iPhone- its a masterpiece and 11,000 miles later I've never needed to charge anywhere but my home at night, I even drove 3000 mile road trip and paid $0 in gas using the Supercharger network, and I smoked a Lamborghini from a stop light in Nevada :)

    I hope Brian Cooley does an updated review for this car; especially with all the new tech available with the S P85D.
    The power + all the new driver assistance tech is really a thing of beauty.

    For that price you can almost get a Mercedes s class and that car is arguably the most technological and luxurious car available right now in the market.

      Wait 'till a Model 3 shows up

    • @Pokabyss
      @Pokabyss 10 років тому

      Tim Dorovskikh cuz obviously the model 3 will be MORE technologically than the model s (as shown in the video) even though the model 3 is going to be a competitor of the 3 series and c class (or anything of that nature). By that logic, ur basically saying a c class is better than an s class, and we all know thats not true for the fact that naturally the s class is better than the c class (and others in its range)

    • @luggage12345
      @luggage12345 10 років тому

      Tim Dorovskikh the model 3 would cost $35,000 but the only thing it would really have going against other luxury cars is that it's electric. I mean, this car has back up camera but doesn't have guidance lines. luxury cars at the price of the model 3 would probably have auto park and adaptive cruise control and adaptive headlights and even awe system. I just think this car brand is more of like a luxury toy that needs a few more years to mature.

    • @luggage12345
      @luggage12345 10 років тому

      ***** well I'm not saying Tesla is a naive company who would just keep selling selling cars the way it was and pretend its new. This car almost reminds me of the first ever iPhone. When it first came out it didn't have MMS, or 3G or even have the capability of recording video but it had the cool factor and it had a killer feature, It's easy to use OS and impressive large touch screen without buttons, just like the infotainment of the Tesla Model S. Look at where the iPhone is now, it may not have all the features of all other Android smartphones but it has improved by a ton compared to the original iPhone.

    I'd honestly say that the Model S isn't so much a direct answer to energy and environmental issues as it is a way to move the spotlight onto that answer. It's an EV that doesn't look or feel like the typical subcompact EV ecowagon, but rather has a lot more in common with conventional premium sedans. However, the Model S also has a relatively low MPG-equivalent compared to smaller, slower, cheaper options these days.
    I love the Model S, but I wish it was 1000 lbs lighter. At the moment, it's as heavy as some SUVs.
    I can definitely see composites becoming commonplace in the auto industry, should EVs really start to take off.
    I should try converting a Birkin S3 Roadster over to electric power. I can get the batteries from my local hobby store (they're actually even better than the ones in the Model S) and RobotMarketplace sells the incredibly powerful Briggs & Straton MARS PMAC as a motor and ESC combo. All of that can fit in the back of the car, which allows the engine compartment to be turned into a makeshift trunk.

      True in the sense that it's the perfect balance between handling, economy, performance, practicality and luxury. It's not the best in any one category, though, and it's damn expensive, but you won't find another car that can outrun an M5 and still have better economy than a TDI Passat.

      azalru Good to know. I am just not warmed up to the full touch screen control of almost everything. Have you tried moving around the screen with wet finger? Watch the screen when sun light hits it directly? I can't imagine how it is at night when the screen light shines on your face...

    • @antwangrays7112
      @antwangrays7112 10 років тому

      David Lawman the car comes with a screen protected on it it's your choice to take it off or not and I don't really know about the whole wet finger thing but I think that settles it and the sun roof is layered I don't know the direct term they call it but it blocks all bright sunlight in the car and it keeps the sunroof from getting hot and you can adjust the brightness of the screen so at night you can dim it down like you could on your iPhone or iPad...... All problems solved ish lol

  • @SEpstude
    @SEpstude 10 років тому +6

    The display is a big turn off.
    Not the screen it itself in anymeans, that's amazing.
    But it clearly got an underpowered processor to run it.
    Many laggs and stutters are going on there.
    This shouldn't be a problem and is definatly a game breaker.

      Wonder whats running in the background ... being that Tesla is the only car company with open patents and it uses Linux I don't see a reason why we couldn't replace the computer with something faster. This also gives a Tesla a leg up on every single car since the 70's. 20 - 30 - 40 years from now you will be able to replace every computer in that car with something faster, newer without having to get it from the manufacturer.

    As an owner of a Model S 60, I can say that you simply need to at least test drive this car before you make too many comments. The 60 is the least expensive model and has all the power needed to get you anywhere. Also, I have taken it on a 10,000 mile trip around the U.S., through Superchargers and where they don't exist in the South, and I still wanted to continue driving the car when I got home. That pretty much says it all.
    Recharge times: You charge the car when you get home, not when you approach 'empty' and, therefore, all these 5 hour charge times are somewhat bogus. If you drive 75miles a day it will take your home 40 amp charger about 2 hrs to charge your car - all while you sleep and your electric rates are lower. Of course you could get solar panels for your house and your costs would be reduced even further.

    Put simply, have fun adding a 50,000 dollar battery to your 100, 000 dollar car when its done in about 5-8 years. Therefore, only the rich can afford this; yet if you ware rich, you most likely dont care about MPG and will buy something way nicer than this that actually has resale value. Thus, this will never work! Nice car though, just no possible way it will last.

    • @cooper6585

      Ok where did you get $50,000?

    • @cooper6585
      @cooper6585 10 років тому

      Resale value: because of limited production, the value goes up, as of right now. We cannot predict more.
      I will put it simply too: most of the world's auto journalists say that it is the best car, thus, you cannot upgrade to something higher.

    • @thranx11111
      @thranx11111 10 років тому

      8 year unlimited mile warranty. One battery pack at the company has 500,000 miles on a test bed. Enough owners of the model S to show/predict long range degeneration of battery pack is about 1%/yr. So in 10 years, you still have 90% of capacity remaining.
      Where'd you get $50,000? Not to mention that in your "5-8 years", battery price should drop significantly.

    • @TheTCOLL
      @TheTCOLL 10 років тому

      There is no way in hell a lithium ion battery will last more than 8 years without significant problems with power. Its 50, 000 for the top battery, I believe the smallest one is 20gs

    • @cooper6585
      @cooper6585 10 років тому +3

      Please tell me where you found this, I would like to know as a person who has done much research into the car and is looking at buying one. As a matter of fact, Tesla put out a press release here: www.teslamotors.com/blog/2013-model-s-price-increase.
      It states quite specifically that battery price will be guaranteed to be under 12,000 for the most expensive one at current prices, which are definitely not prices in 8 years. Also, look at KmanAuto's channel and Bjorn Nyland's channel, both of whom have done updates on their battery life. Kman's car, after well over 30,000 miles, has lost less than 2 miles.
      So, 50K? I call bullshit. Degradation? I call bullshit. Why do people like you say bullshit like this? How do you benefit by saying unfounded lies? Are you trying to artificially drive down Tesla's stock so you can buy in cheap? I struggle to find another reason, and I guarantee that posting lies in youtube's comment section is not the way to do it. Go burn one if you want to do that.
      You have not given a single example of any of your claims being founded. Please, if you have nothing truthful to say, just end this comment chain. Stop wasting people's time.
