Hey Megan. Magic scenery, even if the chosen road was blocked off. As for hungry bears, we don't have that problem in Australia. However, when you come to Oz you'll need to learn to avoid kangaroos which like to skip across the road in front of you !
The only 'bear's in Australia are the eucalaptus-sedated 'drop bears' (koalas) :-) . My Canberra-based sister said Dawn and dusk are the most dangerous times for that 'roo behaviour. Buggerofit is, it's too frckn hot (40 degrees plus! No thank you!!) to ride during the day in Oz between November and March. And night-time's no better 'cos then you've got wombats (sentient moving roadblocks that will destroy cars, badly bend bull-bar kitted ute/pickups, and kill motorcyclists upon impact :-o ) . Megan is acutely mindful of this sort of thing, 'cos reindeer do the same malarkey in BC. She has personal vidclip evidence from her other summer trip around Shuswap/Okanagan Lakes this year!

@@MeganKaptein going with my daughter on her first motorcycle trip with me to Vancouver Island this weekend. She is super excited. I’m planning the route and would love to make the wild campsite by the beach in this video one of the nights. I know she would love it. Ms. Kaptein, before my birth my parents spent a couple of years at RCAF Station Holberg, at the north end of the Vancouver Island. My Dad was a Vancouver native; he served as an RCAF F-86 pilot during the Cold War. He was grounded for medical reasons and finished his RCAF hitch on the Pine Tree line. Prior to that stint in Holberg Dad did some training at the USAF airbase in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. My folks fell in love with AZ; I was born and raised there. I've never been to Vancouver Island; I've known it only from my parents' stories. I enjoy Vancouver and BC vicariously through your videos, and this video series was a *real* treat. I hope you'll hit the north end of the island next time around. Who knows, maybe I'll grow a wild hair and motor up someday myself on the ol' DR! BTW, Dad's watchword for any campsite was always, "Leave it better than you found it." The last thing we'd do at any campsite was police up any trash, and make some small improvement - collect some firewood, enhance the fire ring, improve drainage at a tent site, whatever. I've found that to be a pretty good rule for life in general. Leave it better than you found it! Be safe, have fun, and thanks again for your videos! :-)
Thanks for watching and sharing your comment, Tracy. Your parents sound like fine folks with good tastes in environments (I'm a big fan of AZ as well.) I rode from Port Hardy on another trip and it was a really beautiful. I would certainly love to go back and explore sometime in the future. Your DR sounds like the perfect machine for it--maybe I'll see you there? 😊
Thanks for the island adventure. I grew up in the Comox valley, but have been in Alberta for many years now. I don’t get back home as often as I would like, but will be doing a motorcycle tour in the near future. Keep up the good work of showing what BC has to offer for riders. Cheers 🤙🏼
Your journey certainly encountered amazing scenery and vistas! I could see how tired you were in your eyes, but, your million dollar smile said it all... you’re not finished! Very smart to listen to your body and never attempt to push it over the limits. You’re the best! Really enjoy your travels. Ride safe Megan!
thank you again for taking us along with you on your island adventure. When it stops being fun, it stops. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Stay safe
Thank you, Megan, for such a wonderful video. Yes! You made the right decision. You should listen to your body and when it's too tired, that is a signal to get some rest at home. Riding a motorcycle, especially on a long trip with lots of gear, requires one to be physically fit, have good emotional stability, and a high level of mental awareness. Being overly fatigued means you lose some of all three, and that can make for an unsafe trip. It's all about having fun and coming home in one piece! So, you made the right call. Also, you have the most beautiful smile in the world. It just makes my day. Much love to our sister Canada from the USA!!
The scenery of Vancouver Island is so beautiful. The camping scene on the river is so nice. It's a great video. It's an honor to be your channel's friend. From Woongkham, a South Korean UA-camr. 🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍🤙
Looking into the camera and displaying honesty, whether it's about the positive or the negative (the beauty and adventure of extended motorcycle travel/camping vs the fatigue), is a precious thing we can all relate to. Thanks Megan.
Very nice person enjoying beautiful locations. Yeah sometimes you can tour forever, other times your own home and bed calls you back. That’s ok. It’s the journey and not the destination. Keep biking - stay safe. Can’t wait for next spring. God bless.
Thank you Megan from all of us viewers, for enduring the hardships, as well as enjoying the benefits of riding in your beautiful country. Without you, we would not get to see such beautiful places. As for the `people` ( I can think of other words not allowed here) that drop their rubbish there, they don`t deserve to have the privilege of visiting such places.
Hello Megan, Your ride thru the Beautiful Coastal Road is amazing. Your solo camping in the wilderness is very exciting. Thanks for the Video. Take Care. Ride Safe.
You are a much better person than I am... I leave things clean, but I don't clean for others 🙁. And you are a much BRAVER person than I am.... NO WAY i would sleep in a tent with bears around 😁. Thanks for sharing another amazing trip on your beautiful country.
Stunning scenery and video production. The raw meat blew my mind. People! I pick up trash, too. I understand that sometimes, the wind might carry something away from a trash bin, but the meat is unacceptable. Safe travels.
I just love your videos, the places you choose - and your smile is bigger than life! Keep on feeding your followers with your trips, your riding experiences. And by the way, Vancover landscapes are awsome!
Thanks Megan. That was a terrific series you just finished with this video. I'm glad you headed home for a rest when your body told you it was time. I can't imagine being in a tent trying to sleep and hearing something breathing outside. It's horrible that someone would leave raw meat just laying around, and really dangerous for campers too with all the wildlife here in Canada. Please stay safe my friend!! Here we are deep into the rainy and cold season in Vancouver, so any rides for me will be short ones to keep fresh gas in the carbs and some charge in the battery. I hope for some longer rides when the weather gets better, but am too chicken to use a tent. There has to be some cheapish motels out there where I can sleep better and still not break the bank. I really really hope I can do a southern Ontario trip to visit family next summer, but that's yet to be seen.
Tim, it was certainly an unnerving experience. Covid has been a game changer for hotels/motels locally during the summer. It seemed like everybody wanted to get away and almost all of the campsites and accommodation on the island were fully booked while I was there. Some advance planning might mitigate that risk in your case...
Your mindset is really great! Thanks you for sharing your thoughts about litter in the nature! But you also that you take it away, even on a motorcycle which is not so easy on a motorbike!
Hi Megan, Vancouver Island, is among the most beautiful places on Earth, your videos are absolutely stunning , and camping with you is so exciting. Shame about the litter louts! You deserve credit for clearing up after them, thanks for all the wonderful journeys you've taken us on, and a chance to see your beautiful country.
There’s nothing wrong with cutting the trip a little short if you were getting tired and not really feeling it anymore. Like you said, this is for fun, you’re not a martyr. Each individual has their own personal way of enjoying a trip. Some enjoy pushing themselves harder than others. In the end, this was your trip and you had fun. Excellent video, looking forward to more!
Wait the minute Meg, they allow people wild camp in Canada? I bet, none Canadian backpackers left those rubbish. You look well for a tired lady by the way. Thank you for taking us to all this beautiful places.
Alas, in these weird border-barricaded CoViD times, who else could the litterbug culprits be? It goes to show there is pig-ignorant callousness to greater or lesser degrees in all national identities :-( In New Zealand we call this 'Freedom" camping, and for the most part it is allowed here, except where explicitly signposted otherwise, which is usually around the 'touristy' hotspots. In summertimes past here, many spots have been spoiled and soiled by freedom campers, some of whom have left their literal cr@p behind in the outright publically accessible open, thus demonstrating their egregious entitlementalism that the local government and communties shall pick up their tab. The anecdotal impression has been that it's been overseas 20-somethings UK/Europeans doing their OE on the cheap & nasty in hired camper-vans who've been the guilty parties to such desecration. With NZ's borders still fully shut tight to all overseas tourism, it''ll be interesting to see how much of a problem is caused by freedom campers this coming summer who can (by obvious elimination) only be NZers.
Really smart in listening to your body and cutting your trip a bit shorter than you had planned. You'll have better memories and now you have an excuse to go back and do the stuff you couldn't this time around!
Motorbike camping can be a little hard work, I get it from staggering around in the pitch dark to go to the bathroom (I use that word loosely) to not always being able to get a hot shower and a comfortable sleep or we'll rounded meal, it's great fun but takes a bit out of you, I usually break trips up with a hotel every few nights maybe end of the week, not the cheapest I know but gives you something to mark on your trip calendar and let's you go a bit further and longer. Still a great feeling when you are heading home with another adventure under your belt. Can't wait for your next one, happy biking.
Absolutely, Steve. I generally share that mentality, but this year it was nuts with covid. All the hotels and campsites were booked solid, and with Rosie and I both being non-planners, we literally had no options but to wild camp.
When I am on multi-week motorcycle trips, I plan some down time, and/or some short days as to not get fatigued and ride dangerously. I am seriously considering a 6 to 9 month journey when I retire. It might be motorcycle in the camper and do loop rides from basecamps near interesting locations. Got to have dreams.
@@MeganKaptein , I usually plan a hotel night here and there, or at least a resort style campground to be able to do laundry, swim, eat a decent meal and recharge the body. When I ride with others I am usually the last one to get fatigued and was having to stop every hour for a buddy of mine as we pushed to make it to a hotel for the evening. Lesson learned, we should have just got a room early. He messed up pulling into an overlook and jumped a curb which caused an oil leak. So fortunate he didn't go down.
@@Dave-sw2dm That's a great strategy, Dave. This summer was nuts because of covid and all the hotels were booked out around the island at the peak of summer. Oh well, my fault for not planning in advance!
Thank you so much Megan for all thesz videos and efforts you do to provide us all this nice things and help us go through this pandemia sh.. I really appreciate and send you a big kiss from France ,😘🙏
Nice to follow your adventure on the Island. Grew up there so it's my old stomping ground. Recognized Duke Point and the Malahat. One day soon, I will do my own motorcycle road trip on the Island.
Another awesome video, Megan. Thanks for the putting in the hard work to make the video along the way of your trip. Would be easy to just bag the video and enjoy the ride so, appreciate the extra effort.
It's clear you have a great love for this country and especially your own backyard. Well done. Wife and I are looking forward to your future adventures!
That is true, but do not forget Yukon! On my trip to Canada I especially loved Vancouver Island and Yukon. The road from Whitehorse to Skagway Alaska is very beautiful!!!
Sometimes the spontaneous stops turn out to be great stops. I love Canada! Always a pleasure watching. Thanks again and keep safe during this horrific pandemic. 🙂👍
Great video. Touring on the road & motorcycle camping for long periods of time does take its toll on the body. But most of all the time & dedication spent on producing quality videos can be draining. Rest up & there is always another day or time where you can continue. Thanks for sharing your journey & thoughts.

Nice video Megan. I guess I have some more exploring to do on the island. It's been so many years since I've been there and we only hit the highlights. Clearly it's time to get off the beaten path. Thanks for the push to go west again.
Beautiful video! Yah , I woke one morning in the forest north of Phoenix az and almost put my hand into a really dirty diaper while crawling out of my tent . Oh those mid night set ups .
I totally hear you on the fatigue Megan. Personally its more mental than physical. But Its always great to have something to come back to. I always feel happy to go, to be away, to go home and be home. After a few weeks or months I get really anxious to get to travel again though. Always want to hit that travel vibe full blast again in march or when temps are above 10C-ish

I needs me a trip out west. Central Ohio is just too flat. I discovered the Rockies in the 80's...been back a few times, but it's been a while.
You can never go wrong with the best coast 😉
Have fun, ride lots. And go home when you wanna go home! Love your honesty, Megan, no point otherwise. Looking forward to the next episode...
I absolutely agree, there's nothing wrong with breaks and taking the shorter way. It's Part of the freedom and part of the joy.
Thanks Thomas.
The scenery of Vancouver Island is so beautiful. The camping scene on the river is so nice. It's a great video. It's an honor to be your channel's friend. From Woongkham, a South Korean UA-camr.
🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍🤙
Thanks Woonkham!
Looking into the camera and displaying honesty, whether it's about the positive or the negative (the beauty and adventure of extended motorcycle travel/camping vs the fatigue), is a precious thing we can all relate to. Thanks Megan.
Thank you, Ken. Appreciate your empathy.
Very nice person enjoying beautiful locations. Yeah sometimes you can tour forever, other times your own home and bed calls you back. That’s ok. It’s the journey and not the destination. Keep biking - stay safe. Can’t wait for next spring. God bless.
Thanks John. Sage journeys to you too.
Short trips can be great trips. Surrounding yourself with beauty puts a smile in your heart. Great video!
Absolutely!
Thanks Dave!
Hello Megan, Your ride thru the Beautiful Coastal Road is amazing. Your solo camping in the wilderness is very exciting. Thanks for the Video. Take Care. Ride Safe.
Must say you live in a beautiful country breathtaking scenery
I'm pretty spoiled in that way. 😊
You are a much better person than I am... I leave things clean, but I don't clean for others 🙁. And you are a much BRAVER person than I am.... NO WAY i would sleep in a tent with bears around 😁. Thanks for sharing another amazing trip on your beautiful country.
I do it for the animals. They were there long before us and have the right to live in the most natural way possible!
@@MeganKaptein this speaks volumes of you. I'm proud of you, and I'm happy to be one of your followers !
Thanks Alberto!
It's beautiful Vancouver Island.
I was enjoyed.
Thanks1
I have enjoyed this series quite a bit. Looking forward to what you may bring us next.
Ride safe and Merry Christmas to you (all).
Thanks JP! Merry Christmas to you as well.
Brilliant video so admire what you do would love to go to Canada one day
Thanks Megan.
Thats using good common sense Megan, it is a pleasure trip not an endurance run, really enjoyed seeing the breathtaking beautiful of Canada.
You said it, Terry!
That’s so understandable. So real. It makes me think about adventure and fun vs survival adventure. Thank you for the surreal perspective.
Thanks Michael. 🙏
Your mindset is really great! Thanks you for sharing your thoughts about litter in the nature! But you also that you take it away, even on a motorcycle which is not so easy on a motorbike!
You are the best Megan! Always leave it better for the next person.
Well said, Daniel. Thanks for watching and supporting my content.
Wait the minute Meg, they allow people wild camp in Canada?
I bet, none Canadian backpackers left those rubbish.
You look well for a tired lady by the way.
Thank you for taking us to all this beautiful places.
I’m not sure if it’s technically allowed or not, but all the more reason to ensure you’re not leaving garbage behind!
@@MeganKaptein So True.
Alas, in these weird border-barricaded CoViD times, who else could the litterbug culprits be? It goes to show there is pig-ignorant callousness to greater or lesser degrees in all national identities :-(
In New Zealand we call this 'Freedom" camping, and for the most part it is allowed here, except where explicitly signposted otherwise, which is usually around the 'touristy' hotspots.
@@rhonda-my_honda_cb500x3 Good point! That will be very telling.
Really smart in listening to your body and cutting your trip a bit shorter than you had planned. You'll have better memories and now you have an excuse to go back and do the stuff you couldn't this time around!
Love your perspective, Robert.
Down time is key! A few days of proper rest can do the body so much good!
Been there many years ago and it’s still one of my favorite places!
Canada looks awesome ...... so wild and raw
Megan you are good person I wish there more people like this willing to leave the environment just how they found it pristine!!!!!
Same here!
Thank you so much Megan for all thesz videos and efforts you do to provide us all this nice things and help us go through this pandemia sh.. I really appreciate and send you a big kiss from France ,😘🙏
Well I did the Mae Hong Son loop on a rental CB500 so I guess I'll have to bring my CB500 out to the Island now. Lovely trip report, thanks.
Can't wait to ride through BC and around the island one day. I'm only a province away :) Great video.
You're always welcome!
Don’t go to Squamish, it sucks
Nice to follow your adventure on the Island. Grew up there so it's my old stomping ground. Recognized Duke Point and the Malahat. One day soon, I will do my own motorcycle road trip on the Island.
Looks so fresh, invigorating - and virus free. 🌞
Hah exactly--riding and wild camping is the ultimate pandemic activity.
Another awesome video, Megan. Thanks for the putting in the hard work to make the video along the way of your trip. Would be easy to just bag the video and enjoy the ride so, appreciate the extra effort.
Thanks, Brian!
It's clear you have a great love for this country and especially your own backyard. Well done. Wife and I are looking forward to your future adventures!
Lovely video, amazing scenery! Time for some R +R...Cheers, Steve
Thanks Steve!
Canada is so beautiful! Especially Alberta and BC
BC is definitely beautiful, Alberta is on the west side haha otherwise mostly flat prairie (I'm from Edmonton, 4 hrs to Jasper or Banff)
That is true, but do not forget Yukon! On my trip to Canada I especially loved Vancouver Island and Yukon. The road from Whitehorse to Skagway Alaska is very beautiful!!!
Great video...informative and personal :-) Thanks for the "keeping it real" insight to your trip.
You nailed it. Thanks for watching, and for the empathy. Happy holidays!
Looking forward to next time on Tofino winding road, riding not driving! So much more to see! Cheers from freezing Ontario (Feb.)
Marine route to Renfrew is a great ride. The island is a biker/hiker paradise.
For sure!
Beautiful landscapes and oustandings views. I love Canada and look forward to travel (riding) all over the country in a Honda. Have a good and confortable rest (you deserve it) and come back soon. Congratulations for your spirit of superation and self-achievement.
Thank you, José!
It is a pleasure for me to watch your videos!
Beautiful country. Thanks Megan.and yes we have those kind of people in Australia as well. can pack it but can't be bothered picking it up before they leave.
There's a small handful of bad apples in every batch, I'm afraid. 😔
No matter what situation in life, if you don't like what you are doing anymore,.........stop it.
Great Video, thanks
Thanks Magen, great season of riding and videos. Take care and enjoy your down time back home. Happy holidays, happy Hanukkah and merry Christmas
Thank you, David! Happy holidays to you as well!
Enjoyed your Island Vibe series. Thank You for all the great videos this year. Wishing you a merry Christmas and all the best in the coming new year! 🙂🏍🎄🎉🇨🇦
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your support of the series, and of my channel. 🙏
Nice video Megan. I guess I have some more exploring to do on the island. It's been so many years since I've been there and we only hit the highlights. Clearly it's time to get off the beaten path. Thanks for the push to go west again.
My pleasure, Randy!
Enjoy watching your video from Philippines.... That's really wonderful adventure trip... Be safe always God bless...
Absolutely, it sounds like you really get it!
