@@AdamGotheridge Well, haven't heard Free Will more times than I can count, I just noticed those two chords back to back and said huh.... It happens to me quite often. I'll notice similarities between 2 songs and wonder if one borrowed from the other. Like the first 4 notes of Indian Jones theme is actually the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th notes of Frosty The Snowman. :) And some of the lines from "When Santa Claus Gets Your Letter" are suspiciously similar to Frosty The Snowman. oh well....
@@AdamGotheridge ah, you probably do it when you hear certain tunes. I don't know much modern tunes but I bet I'd be pulling my hair out if I did. hehe I'd be like wait, they stole that from XYZ! oh well... Making a little progress on my green strat. I can't get the finish glass like cuz I can't sand it enough w/o prob hitting some glitter I sprinkled on and later regretted. So.. it's glossy but not mirror like. So, I'm just gonna stop there and see about reassembling and see if the nut is too low (seems it is which is odd given it's a brand new Tusk one from GraphTech). I learned some things doing this paint job. Maybe one day I'll try another but I won't use water-based clear anymore.
These tutorials help by isolating the guitar, so that I can hear sounds otherwise drowned out by the other instruments. I don't know what a G major 7th means and I'm not even paying attention to the fingering, but the fact that I can hear the chords better helps a great deal.
Awesome! You made it really easy to follow along and I had it down within minutes of watching. I'd only ask that you name the notes of each chord, instead of just playing each individual note, and that you play it though at the end, so I could play along. I mean, I *could* just go to The Police's page and play along with the Synchronicity version, but it would have been nice to just play it through in its entirety at the end of your video. Thanks, again! I've always loved this song and you made learning it easy. :)
By the looks of those chords, I would have to say that is Andy Summers playing for sure ! Lol !!!! TY Brother ! I believe you nailed it, and that is a very commendable accomplishment !
Sounds amazing !! I have always wanted to learn to play this. Thank you for posting it, I couldn’t figure all those chords Out in a lifetime. If there is a sudden bump in views it’s just me watching it over and over lol
Thanks Moshe! There's another video with the same setup except a 335, just for another reference. Those are stock pickups. ua-cam.com/video/ubJhwaj9DR4/v-deo.html
Moshe - I just noticed this again. 2005 LP Standard with ThoBak pickups straight into an old Roland JC-120 combo, 2 Sennheiser e609 mics right on the grill where the dust cover meets the cone, Warm Audio wa512 mic preamp (the api clone model) into a UA Apollo interface (mk2). The main mix of the guitar and voice is probably running through a TK Audio compressor (an ssl clone). I'm sure the guitar is flat eq wise except some high pass filter on my Allen Heath GL-4000 board somewhere between 50 and 125hz. Sorry I didn't properly respond to your question earlier. My 2 cents on the whole thing is just guitar into amp sounds fantastic in the room (to me), those mics are just kind of a no brainer and work pretty well, the mic pre just sounds good, and the buss compressor just kind of helps convey what it sounds like in the room to the recorded version. It's probably 1-2db compression, 10ms attack, auto release. I use that on the main mix of pretty much everything I do with those settings and it just helps the sound in some way that I can't really explain. It just sounds better with it on even if it's basically doing nothing. Peace!
@@AdamGotheridge thank you very much Adam. Kind of answer I have to put my glasses on and STUDY it for my very pleasure !! Hi Adam - This sounds fantastic, especially on my headphones. I found 2 videos of Andy Summers playing this and the only difference was he played the first two chords (E7#9 and Bb2/A) in the 1st position. What you're playing has more color and sounds like the record; however, what Andy is playing live sounds correct live. All the tones are the same. I'm wondering if he played it that way live because it was easier?
I'm guessing if Andy played it that way, then that's that's the correct way. ;) This is just how it sounded to me when I learned it. should be brighter and more "plinky" playing the chords on the higher strings. Thanks for the comment and feedback!
@@AdamGotheridge It's the exact same notes, but makes it easier to grab (especially the Bb2/A) and easier to make the quick transition from the Bb2/A to the Bm7#9.
@@wendyg1059 this is how I look at this stuff… I try to make it sound like what I hear, and I stay away from anyone showing how to play it. Like maybe the correct way to play that Bb2/A is in first position, but in my hands, it sounds more like it around the 5th fret. That could be just how I get in and out that chord too, like how smooth that is. Put another way, I view this stuff like solving a puzzle, not unlike say sudoku, and I find some enjoyment in that. Sometimes it’s fun to find someone playing something I learned only to find I did it wrong. I still find enjoyment in just trying to figure it out on my own, like a puzzle! Cheers no best wishes to you 🙂
Funny! I swear it's close. Honestly though, I see so much stuff played incorrectly by pretty "popular" people, it kind of drives me nuts. Then you see everyone playing it incorrectly the same way and it's beyond annoying.
