I used to steward this fair when I worked for Octavian security and stewarding. All these rides were given specialty numbered plots and a map with numbered areas is sent out to all the showmen so that they know exactly where to go. This includes the caravans etc. During my time I saw a lot of this going on.

Does Billy Roberts still go the Nottingham goose fair with his Ghost Train..i remember Billy and his mrs (norma) When they come to newsham park every year in the school summer hoildays in the 1970s when i was a kid..i use to help them out..great days.

Seems like it takes forever to set up whilst you wait for the date that it’s open, but they seem to disappear overnight

They take a few hours to set up maybe like 5/6 hours for Extreme

Some of the trailers are clearly a few hundred feet long and just when you think that it’s going to end there is a huge hobby caravan at the very back of the train!. I love some of the old vintage trailers with the chrome decoration and the old Foden generator tractor units, even some ERF rigs are pretty good but they have all got some serious style and they work hard to make sure that people have a good time. I don’t think people realise that they have homes and their fair is a seasonal thing and it’s not cheap to buy even an old maxwells waltzer and the fuel they have to go through to power the lights and engines?. I bet they are extremely expensive to buy outright

They had built up 4ft in the wrong position so they had to move the ride so the Rodeo could fit in.
