I think you absolutely did the right thing. I never worry about breaking up the root ball when I up-pot, and the roots always find their way into the new space in no time 😊
They were so tangled and stuck, I didn't want to risk breaking any! I know she will be so happy in her bigger pot!

You Albo is gorgeous. I was scared as crap to repot my Albo. I didn’t even mess with the roots. I just pulled her out and plopped her in the new pot then back filled with soil. I’ve since airlayered and chopped her. All of the cuttings have produced some leaves. I even sold a few cuttings. I’ve heard from one buyer about her cutting. The new leaf is gorgeous.

Thinking a butter knife used gently around the outer inner edge of the pot might make it easier to loosen.

I use Liquid Dirt and once in a while Fish Emulsion. They both work just fine.
Shouldn't you rinse perlite under a running tap first? I heard the dust can also clog up the soil.
It aerates the soil so no, doesn't clog it. Not sure how that would even work in such a chunky mix. The water goes straight through my ablo and nearly a year later shes thriving!. But if you watch more recent repots I switched to using a pre-rinsed chunky perlite.
So why wouldn’t you give that root ball a quick soak to loosen the roots? I wanna know cuz that’s what I would’ve done😂
Yea me too.
Loosening it might increase the risk of damaging the roots. But of coz it’s still fine as long as we don’t tug(tuck?) on the roots. Just transferring and adding more media technically causes no stress at all to the roots. That’s how I and a number of people do it and it always works wonderfully.
There was really no need to disturb them! They were STUCK together, let me tell you! Not worth the stress on me or her, haha! Plus that would have been messy in the sink lol.
Really the only reason to soak and loosen the root ball would be if she wanted to make sure and get out every bit of old soil, for example if it was a bad soil mix from previous home. When I repot a new plant I wash the root ball out. If it’s my plant that needs a repot I pull out of old pot and stick in new pot without doing anything at all. 🌱

@18:28 if i were you.. you should not remove those old potting mix in the rooted bound .. must put that directly to a larger pot then add your new potting mixture

What conditions do you give your albo? Mine is slowly putting out leaves. She’s not growing but not dying. Idk what to do to get her to thrive. She’s in western indirect light, low humidity despite the humidifiers, and good chunky soil, watered regularly and with fish emulsion for fertilizer.
She lives in the greenhouse on full neglect lol. Is it on a pole? Does it have lots of roots?
@@jaclynns.jungle she’s on a plank. I repotted her last year. She’s putting out aerial roots so slowly. Of her recent 3 leaves, 2 are about 85% white. I actually cut them back as they browned to just the greener parts. She’s not stretching toward the light so I think she’s getting enough.
@@PlantyGal05 I've been trying a new product called Fish Sh!t and its supposed to help with all of that!! I'll keep you posted! Just watered all my rares with it!! Sounds like your plant just needs more green to photosynthesize and grow!

Hi Jaclynn, your Monstera is beautiful. With cats and plants, the fish fertilizer be aware that the cats might start to dig in the plants.
Thankfully they have no access to any of them!! I have a dirty little leaf nibbler so I keep them out of reach! Thank you for letting me know though!

FYI plants dry out really fast in those pots, so much I had to move my Thai out of one.
Haven't had any issue with them!! My plants really like it in there! Maybe try one with less holes?
A local family owned nursery in my town (only nursery that sells more rare plants) SWEARS by Fish Sh*T fertilizer. Her leaves get massive.

Has a botanist tell me That when monstera are rootbound like that, to at least unravel the roots at the bottom. To just gentle Taye 1 at a time and pull em so that they'll grow outside of Thad pattern they've been going in
It has no choice but to grow out of that pattern. The roots will naturally go wherever there's moisture. They will spread out on their own just fine, so no need to worry!
