    - Based on an Illustrated short story:
How Hanu Became Hanuman (1995) by K G Subramanyan
    - Guided by: Jhalapala - Theatre for Young Audiences
    - Script and Direction: Santanil Ganguly
"‘How Hanu Became Hanuman’, the tale of the superhero from the Ramayana, is narrated as a rollicking Hindi film yarn replete with a helicopter chase and a disco on a remote island. But the Hindi film template also means the reinforcement of patriarchal stereotypes such as the damsel in distress - even if she has a black belt in the martial arts - who needs rescuing from the bad guys.”
    - An excerpt from research-based exhibition (One Hundred Years and Counting: Re-scripting K G Subramanyan, April - June, 2024, Emami Art in collaboration with Seagull, MSU, Baroda and KCC Conservation Lab at @kolkatacentreforcreativity7447 )
Experience the transformation of Hanu into Hanuman, a journey that began humbly with K G Subramanyan's brown and black chart paper cutouts, adorned with free-form graphic elements. Now, witness this journey brought to life by a shadow puppet performance by children through a three-day workshop at Emami Art, Kolkata.
Marvel at the acrobatic conceptions as "the figures shaped by sharp paper cuts and calibrated in swift rhythmic movements" come to life in a literal drama enacted by enthusiastic children, guided by Jhalapala members and Santanil Ganguly, an experienced shadow puppeteer and pedagogue known for captivating young audiences.
