Wondering how to do GoFundMe and actually get donations? We’re here to help! Many people have tried GoFundMe, only to discover that their campaign gets no donations at all. We’ve identified what makes successful GoFundMe campaigns and we’re going to share those secrets with you!

In order to figure out how to do GoFundMe well, you first need to understand how the system works. It’s actually quite simple. You create a campaign, select a fundraising goal, tell your story and share it. Sounds easy, right?
It’s easy to set up a GoFundMe. It’s harder to create a GoFundMe that will actually result in donations and help you get your needs met.
The hardest part about using GoFundMe is that millions of other people also need help. The platform has been used to fund-raise over $9 billion so far. That’s a lot of people with a lot of legitimate needs.
Fortunately, we’ve found a lot of helpful tips and tricks that can help you make your GoFundMe a success.
A successful GoFundMe is all about selling your story.
At it’s core, a successful GoFundMe campaign is based on salesmanship and marketing. You aren’t actually selling a product, but you are selling your story in the hope that the reader will contribute to your cause.
As a result, the tips and techniques that define a good GoFundMe campaign are very similar to those that define good salesmanship.
In this video, I’m going to share 7 tips to help you make the most of your fundraiser. Focus on the extenuating circumstances.
Life is hard and many people are barely getting by financially. When you create a GoFundMe, you need to realize that you are asking other people to part with their own hard-earned and much-needed money.
People are generally more compassionate when you’re suffering due to circumstances beyond your control.
As a result, it’s important to focus on the extenuating or unusual circumstances surrounding your needs.
Let’s consider the case of Jessica, a 34 year old single mom to two kids. She’s working part-time while she’s going to college. She hopes this will improve their financial situation someday but in the meantime they struggle to make ends meet. Unfortunately, her only vehicle needs an expensive repair and because of that, she missed work and can’t make the rent this month.
Jessica can approach her situation from several different angles. Not all of them will produce the same results.
Jessica wants to ask for help with the rent, since it’s the most urgent need. It’s all Jessica can think about. She doesn’t want to ask for more than she needs, and she thinks it would be easier to get $750 for the rent instead of $2,500 for the car.
However, in this case, she should ask for help with the car.
Why?
In Jessica’s case, her car had a serious and unexpected problem. This doesn’t happen in a normal month and is a very unusual expense. In her text, she should emphasize that she needs help with the rent because of the issue with her car. Connecting the immediate need with unusual circumstances will help make the story more compelling to donors.
Have someone you trust run the GoFundMe (if possible).
Many of the most successful and viral GoFundMe causes have been run by someone other than the beneficiary. This makes the case more sympathetic and also cuts through some of the awkwardness of asking for help for yourself.
If there is someone you trust who can run the GoFundMe on your behalf, you may want to consider asking them to do so.
In Jessica’s case, she might have more success if her coworker and good friend Andrea posted the GoFundMe on her behalf.
Be prepared to prove how much money you need.
The most compelling fundraisers have documentation behind them. This helps donors feel confident that the money will be used for what you say it’ll be used for.
In this case, Jessica could upload a picture of the mechanic’s estimate to prove the extent of repairs required.

The thing I don't like about GoFundMe is that it relies on your family and friends. I am not very close with family and I do not have friends really. :/

Honestly I have found it so hard to reach out for help during these times because it feels like everyone is struggling these days. I have been going back and forth on if our situation qualifies for compassionate people to open their wallets and help with their hard earned money. I'm going door to door in my neighborhood and with surrounding neighborhoods an am trying to get my Go Fund Me to go viral. I've been very blessed with getting donations and with getting cash donations as well going door to door and from word of mouth.

i started a gofundme for my dad whos a quadriplegic veteran, his benefits and our food stamps were cut so things have been rough, u can imagine our electric bill too since we live in the desert and it gets up to 110°F here lol. My boyfriend has had a stroke. And I am his girlfriend. I have a hard time working and taking care of him and working and checking on him through out the day. I need of a car and his medicines, also in need of a physical therapist because the hospital will not help us with that.

This video is very helpful. I am going to do mine real soon. We have a 14month old daughter (on this channel) who never left the hospital. basically found out that she has a year or less to live. Hi, I just published a story called American Boy In Cambodia . I chose Babies, kids and family category. When I looked at where the story placed, it looked hopless. Not much fun raised in this choosen category. People tend to raised a lot in a nonprofit than listed as individual, I guess. Any suggestions?

Yes, it’s actually very hard to promote a gofundme especially with times like this and my friends and family really don’t have money like that.

I started one to help me continue ghost hunting and help pay for equipment and some of these places you have to pay $400 or more to get into so I continue giving good and honest content
We had to start a gofundme recently because our landlady is harassing us and having her friends and family spy on us(they literally peek through the windows and take pics of stuff and then she calls to attack us over TV placement or fridge placement). And for several days nothing happened, and then I was asked to share it around and we got some donations from people I've been interacting with online for years. Because I'm good at explaining what's going on. I had to help reword the whole thing just so people could understand our situation is caused by multiple problems and the landlady, who made us fix issues SHE by law is supposed to, will not give us a break.
Also, it's worth noting that she only suddenly had a problem with us the moment she found out my step-father is Native American. Her nephew had been handling things up until she met my step-father in person a few months back. Suddenly she's demanding rent earlier and earlier, making claims that she needs to raise the rent more and more, and is threatening to shut off our utilities if we don't pay up these sudden spikes in rent.
So this video is a blessing because we need it.
Where do you reside at? If you have a sign lease she can't legally demand rent earlier or change it til lease is up and u can get her family and friends for trespassing

I’m looking into setting up a GoFundMe to pay for an HVAC that went out. I had to get it because I can’t handle the heat or cold, due to health issues. It cost $6000, which I don’t have and am going to have trouble paying back. I’m disabled and taking care of my mom, whose health is failing.

I am thinking about doing something like gofund me as i do security as im having to wait for my licence to be renewed and already been out of work a month and could be another month till im back in, let alone paid. I am thinking about doing is as the money is driving me mad having to make it strech and i was also wanting to get some form of transport to get me around since im very low on money and it will also mean i can start a side job like uber eats till i can get things running again with work but i dont know whqt i would say on gofundme for that. I go on gofundme websites and share random peoples campaigns to help out
so basically a go fund me is telling a sad story and you have to peddle it to your family and friends and hope that they have enough extra money to donate, I guess those of us who dont have much family left and almost no friends are out of luck, why not just bypass go fund me and ask them for help yourself since you are paying a fee from the donations that you are getting from family and or friends

I have always had the urge to raise some funds to cater for a few deprived children in the Middle East and other third world countries that have been left vulnerable after civil wars and domestic violence.This tutorial is helpful and I am going to try and set up an account to help these children, I know it won’t be easy but nothing is impossible.

I never get any help through GOFUND, but I have no other family or friends to help. I have only on Aunt left, We are disabled, cant afford to fix my furnace and now my septic system is no working right leaving puddles all over my yard.
Someone actually told me to start doing a GFM, for me and my family. While im still struggling to find a regular job that could help sustain our foods, rent and pappa's meds. The pay im getting from my little jobs can barely sustain our needs. Just this month I took an advance payment so that I can pay bills, debt and rent for us not to be homeless again. So I no longer havr anything to receive until midweek of next month. I only have $1.26 on my wallet and our food will only be good till tomorrow, pappa's meds will run out this weekend. I really wanted to do this GFM. I dont need so much. I just need something to sustain us while life is so tough. By next year, the place i used to work at will reopen and my brother can finally get to work so maybe life would be a little bit better by next year. I just need help for the remaining months. Unfortunately, GFM is not available in our country. 😞

My friend Erin’s son is disabled he’s has spinal biffida he is immobile. He was in a relatives care, a removed from a bad environment with possible abuse. He has been Placed in foster care and needs to be reunited with his mother

Especially for me who don't open up that much to even my closest friends and now selling my story my deeper story to strangers is even harder. Its hard and I need to think fast to forget about that hardness and just open up

If the "close friend" doesn't have anything to help you, I wouldn't worry about them. People can easily speak on situations when it's not they who are going through it
So it is easy. Ask someone to make a gofundme and then ask someone to write a gofundme and then ask someone to publish it and then ask someone to promote it and then ask someone to oversee the rest of the gofundme and then ask someone to get the money and then ask someone to bring the money to me. So what happens if I don't have a company or a company of friends to ask and what happens if you are desperate and the only think you can do is be on your knees and ask ... I can tell you you are screwed. Buy an animal and ask for emergency "operations" is like the best way to make it if you don't have "someone".

It was just so happen I met him and gave him the chance to live. The fear of losing of my therapy kitten was unbearable but people didn't judge me and just straight up supported my fundraising unlike you. You don't even know the whole story as to why I even came to the point of making a project for my Ginger. And gofundme was supposedly only for human needs etc.? I need one so I can at least get a hotel room for a month or something, because I’ve been forced to live and sleep in my car. I literally have no food and nowhere to lay my head at night. This Texas heat is detrimental and if I cannot get financial help I’m gonna die out here in this heat. My disablity is gone and I won’t have money until next month. I’m crying and I’m in need of serious help. This is my last option.

I need to start one my niece needs a kidney transplant and she's in mexico she need like 6 grand just to pay for the donor who she found . Her friend is donating the kidney. I already gave her a grand just for the dialysis and other medical but I m the only family member in the isa it's alot cus I have kids

I guess we always have to pay the bills for all of them it's so stressful it's like my husband has 7 sister and 6 brothers and his the only one here .. so they think his rich. No. income is where your earning or bringing in money from a job or business. that is taxed by the goverment. a go fund me is a Donation, your not taxed and a Donation from a person or people is consided a gift for your needs
After reading the comments...I now feel bad for thinking of gofundme to make money for my useless personal needs
Needs are different than wants. If you truly are in need of something, versus wanting something, you shouldn't feel badly.
I'm in the same boat. I have tried several GoFundMe campaigns from getting a tooth replaced to getting help with rent and bills. Total funds raised so far $0. Possibly because the people I know are in even worse shape than I am. So I need to know more people and more people who have $.
Looking at other go GoFundMe's. And after further review, my situation isn't as bad as I thought it was. At least I have a place to stay even if it's a living room. It could be worse. A garage, in a car or on the street.
Had some help. Sent a few text invitations and raised $20 so far.

Wow...this comment, well im not reading into anything u actualky wrote..yet this added to the 200 other comments on several diff videos just made a lightbulb go off for me. Dont they say best business plans are ones focused on solving a problem. I see a huge problem in between the event causing financial troubles and using gifted money to help renuild your life. Thats a solid ass budiness plan for soneone empathetic w outstanding oatience and writing skills. Just a thought
