For anyone who's curious, Dave's tone was crafted using a 5150 mkII into a Mesa 2x12 (loaded with a Vintage 30 & a DV-77), and the dirty/hideous element was created using a Marshall Jackhammer pedal, believe it or not (into the same rig). Cheers for the love! \m/
Having a pitched up layer is actually really cool! Props to Bolle for sending that in as well and showing us all some creative ways of creating a cool guitar tone :-D
Dave and Matt. You can listen to both on every type of setup and they don't f&€k up the mix 🤫 sounds huge on big speakers as well as on tiny smartphone ones. You still hear all of the drums and the bass 🤘😎
Going back and forth between them, Meinart gets the win for me. It’s just so nasty and brutal and really fits the vibe. Everything else sounds tame by comparison.
This was AWESOME! Gave me a great understanding of metal tones and how to identify them, and even how to use them in a particular song. You have opened more doors for me, and I thank you. 😊🤘🎸
Great to hear that!❤️ If you wanna „develop your ears“ a little more and wanna learn the right methods to get the right guitar tone for every project, do yourself a favor and get the full course! (Or just go for the quarterly Kult membership. That’s cheaper and includes everything 😋) Sorry for the creepy advice, but it’s worth it 🥳
Thanks! But I'm even more shocked by the overall quality. There were quite a few more submissions and there's a longer video inside the academy, but none of them really sucked. Shocking!
I really want to check out some Lichtlaem stuff; every time I hear someone using them, they sound good and somehow not too much fizzy/hissy crap on the top.
I vote Bolle tone 1 :D. I prefer these tones with a bit more bite in the high end. As a side note, actually have one of the Softube engineers in my band. Small world.
Or become a Kult member which is smarter. It’s below 100 bucks for three months and includes all our courses, multitracks and plugins. Pretty mind-blowing deal, but I might be a little biased 🤧😇
Honestly I don't like your grindstein tone. It has that modern active pickup tone. I think it would be fun to hear the grindstein track with a more passive and low output PAF style PUP. But that's me. I grew up Florida death metal and 80's thrash. I can't stand modern Fishman sounding stuff. I don't get it. It has such a neutered fizzy top end. I don't understand why these kids love it so much. It just doesn't have the bite of a good seymour duncan or Dimarzio. Gotta remember Angus and Malcom had low output. And that's the greatest guitar tone ever. Iommi recorded with P-90's. EMG 81's only sound good if you have a million dollar rig like Hetfield. That is hyperbole but you get the point. More isn't always better. Does that change once you put a pedal on top of it? Of course! Absolutely! I love your technique of mixing fuzz/HM-2 square wave symetrical tones. But starting with a more dynamic pickup that accentuates the articulation just sets you up for a better tone IMO. Instead of slamming the frontend of the preamp with as much gain as possible. That does make mixing harder but I look back at all my favorite albums like Beneath The Remains, None So Vile, Blessed are the sick, Legion, Anthems to the welkin at dusk. It was always passive pickups.
I’m a big EMG fan. I just love how they focus on the midrange and always stay tight. But I’m sure there’s a ton of Grindstein videos from other people using passive PUs online!
The amp room was the first plug-in that felt like it reacted like a real amp to me. But it could be hard to get the mic position right with the mouse. Sometimes it used to refuse to move and then made a sudden big jump. In the end I still prefer to use a real amp + microphone or at least a DI signal after the power amp.
@@johanneschristopherstahle3395 I mostly use Celestion Speaker Shaper within Amp Room but the Marshall pack is great too. Add a little room tone and it's awesome. The stock JCM800 with a TS in front is very realistic.
@@barnyardrecordingsBack then the Marshall Amp Room didn't exist. It was the Vintage Amp Room with AC30, Brownface Fender + Marshall Plexi. Great Plug-ins. I'm sure the new ones will be even better.
Which one is your favorite and why?
The one with the octave was simply awesome
Indeed. I’m gonna try that in the future.
dave's tone gave me the wow effect.. matt was very close to it as well
btw im finding it kinda funny how so far in the comments section, we all said the same 2 competitors haha

Thanks for the info Dave! 🤘🖤
Forgot about the Marshall pedals. Good job
Those 5150's are pretty amazing sounding aren't they?@@KohleAudioKult LOL!

Thanks 🙏
Outstanding tones all around. Id honestly take any of them and be happy with it, they all have something going for them
Absolutely superb video! I will have to listen again! And yes, the Grindstein is AWESOME!
P.S. Where's my Grindstein? Ha
I still owe you one! I known 😇
@@KohleAudioKultI’m waiting! Ha

I agree, those two sit the best in the mix to me, and at the end of the day that's what matters most
That octave trick sounded beastly! My favorite out of the bunch I think. 🤘🤘
Bolle's pitched up layer version actually makes the song much cooler imo!
Bolle for me, Bora 2nd. Bolle’s octave made it so much cooler.
Matt and Dave
Bora nailed it soooo silky smooth 😎🍻🤘
Indeed!

Oh yeah. He’s the king of nasty!
I really dig that one too! I love when I can describe a tone as "chewing on broken glass"
Meinert´s tone ist like Entombed on the first 2 albums. Perfect.

As soon as the Bora one started I was thinking Bogner and it was correct! They got a that specific low mid guttural sound.
I need those in IR's for my Headrush core🙏🏻 100% Newbie on guitar modeler, IR etc here🤷🏽
It's great to hear how many different takes on the same thing people may have 😁 Super idea you had, Kohle 👍

They all have a certain somethin', but Dave's tone was super cool. I have been messing with lower gain tones lately so that kinda resonated.
Dave’s tone reminds me of Pungent Stench.
😮
5:50 that's pure magic! Great tip! Nice video!
The kult is pretty awesome! Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning and becoming a part of our community.
🤘🥳❤️
Oooh I really enjoyed this vid. Great brootal tones out there! Well done, everyone!
Bora
So many great tones! Meinert made me headbang so they get my vote
Good argument!
Man , I really liked Dave's.
Looks like you’re not alone! 😜
Love this idea. I know mine would have been “cleaner” too. Thanks to all who submitted, i’d like to see more videos like this
Noted! 🤘
I really want to check out some Lichtlaem stuff; every time I hear someone using them, they sound good and somehow not too much fizzy/hissy crap on the top.
I’m in touch. I’ll check it out soon.
My takeaway from this is that DV-77s and HESU demons blended with V30s give you the best chunky and agressive tones
Still gotta try the HESU!
Kickass guitar tones!!! \m/
They're really good, the Kultists!

I really like Matt's tone, but I'm very, very biased.
Haha!
Matt was pretty good! or maybe I'm biased.... LOL
So, in order to download the DI guitars we need to buy the High Gain Guitar Tone Crafting?
I think that

can we still download the tracks to mix them for fun?
Only if you join the Kult (which includes a whole world of kourses and multitracks) or get the course.

@KohleAudioKult can't argue that. You're a phenomenal engineer and the results speak for them self.
