  • mdshop.us/PhosphateNewsletter Phosphate has always been a hot topic with reef keepers. It's in our tap water. It's in fish and invert food.
    Phosphate gets the blame for algae problems. Some say it even hurts corals.
    When starting out, you'll find a lot confusing information on the web. But don’t worry!
    We'll break it down and tell you everything you need to know about phosphate and how to control it in your aquarium.

    Good job! Like most things in reefkeeping it’s a multifactoral cause and approach. Things develop gradually and in most cases should be treated if even needed gradually.

    Good video, thank you. Valuable information. I discovered a low presence of nitrate, and very very low phosphate actually does my tanks good. The struggle is real however, and with due diligence testing, minor parameter numbers are monitored. I dont chase numbers-i gave up on that, as itll drive ya NUTS! Rather, I strive to maintain acceptable LOW levels, and even then the levels fluctuate. I like to give a tank a year before I deem it as not only cycled, but stable. The key is patience.

    Very informative on the chemistry, biological factors and water specific for your tank and inhabitants. I think this is one of the more factual based talking apples to apples! I have seen other post ( not named ) refer this as ( dkh ) 7.3 - 8.5 s.m.h. as phosphates! Thank you r.o.d.i. only! One 150 and just started two 400 gallon. A hard labor of love time and maintenance, as my friend's do not see often this part! The best lifestyle never give up the satisfaction comes when people are amazed by the Beautiful wave's of coral and fish! Not a goldfish bowl. Seen many fail no matter your advise 18 year's never give up!!! You need phosphate in small amounts stimulating grows and health other biological positive for phytoplankton for consumption for coral and copiods.

    Good video man. One way to reduce phosphates when feeding if you feed frozen is after its thawed to drain the excess water and only feed the solid food. Another very good solution for immediate phosphate reduction is Phosphat-E by Brightwell Aquatics. I use that & Brightwell PO4 cubes in conjunction with macro algae in a refugium and have very good success keeping Phosphates at or around 0.05 ppm. I'm not a big fan of the GFO because it's strips out more than just phosphates. It will remove trace minerals from the water column as well and it's tuff to tell which ones without accurate testing making dosing of them not very straight forward.

    I can't see myself spending lots of money on reducing my PO4. I am around .35-.4 and corals are looking amazing. It seems like the times I have tried to lower them it stresses the corals out worse than just leaving things alone aside from water changes and growing macro algae.

      This sounds about right, stability is the key. If your tank and corals look healthy, stick with it.

    Great job on explanation. What about zero phosphate on hanner ppm and salifert test kits, dosing phosphates, but still reading zero, there is a small amount of algae in the tank. If the answer is yes, you have phosphates, then how to test it if it's being consumed by algae quicker than we can test for? This is very frustrating

    I already put phosguard in my canister but the hair algae decided otherwise :/ I did close my protein skimmer for weeks cuz I heard that they'll starve coral in smaller tanks...Guess I'm paying the price for that :( So here I am getting a hang on back breeder box and some Chaetomorpha. I hope it'll work.

      Thanks for watching. Hanna Instruments has actually made a change with the ULR Phosphate Checker. The unit originally was providing readings in PPB which is no longer available at Marine Depot. The new ULR Phosphate Checker measures in PPM up to 0.9 PPM. You can check it out below!

    I used the Hanna ULR phosphate and it showed 0.12 and I’m having issues keeping lps is this the reason? I have tested all other parameters and they seem to be in acceptable ranges, I have major algae issues and the only things doing good in my tank are all my zoanthids and palys

    • @BulkReefSupply
      @BulkReefSupply  3 роки тому

      High phosphate levels can negatively impact your LPS and, it is most likely the root cause of the algae in your aquarium.
