His first video about burnout was well-received, as people felt that he was being open and honest. However, I felt that he was more concerned w/ the fact that he was losing viewers than he was actually suffering any sort of mental health crises related to his profession. It very much came across to me as someone who lost interest due to waning views, rather than someone who was being selfless in creating content in order to support their colleagues. This was evidenced by the fact that he made more videos about this topic that came across as him whining about not receiving views for the effort he was putting in. He then turned to making videos introducing a new path forward in his content creation, but on a number of occasions, he'd make one video in a new format, it wouldn't receive the views he wanted, and he'd simply quit. He's done this for years now over a range of topics, and he seems to have really thin-skin about this, b/c i've seen him come back at dissenters in his comments section. This, coupled w/ the fact that he rarely makes videos solving puzzle boxes anymore, which was why I was watching, has really turned me off to his content. He's also gotten into conspiracies on another channel, and it's lessened my opinion of him even further.
i voiced my opinion when they dropped the bike x 1st deck, and then they blocked me on instagram. so i unfollowed and stopped watching. i randomly check his site to see where the card world is but he doesnt touch on it much anymore.
I can't grasp how making puzzle solving videos on UA-cam demands a staff of NINE people. How? Why? Obviously you need Chris himself for the puzzle solving, so that's one. Then you might need a video editor if you're cranking out a lot of videos, so that's two. Maybe someone to check around for new puzzles and talk to puzzle makers for sponsorships and such, so that's three. If you're bad at economy you could need an accountant, so that's four. What are the other five people doing?
I agree. Most video seems the same. A well produced intro and then solving the puzzle. Most puzzles takes too long for views to watch. If there was a uniqueness to each video then it would make us want to watch.
You nailed it, that was the only channel I actually subscribed to. & It slowly felt like he was doing it before filming for us and then "trying" for content. Glad I'm not the only person to feel this way, or notice I skip 60% of the videos until I stopped even watching them altogether . 😓
Well said. I couldn’t have said it better. I used to watch him, but no longer. His viewership has waned for good reason. It behooves him to watch this video of yours and take what you say to heart. Excellent analysis.
I'm not sure I'm referring to the right video & whilst I'm very empathetic to his position, I was infuriated, absolutely infuriated! How many of us have to go into work day after day living on the breadline? I don't believe someone who can bugger off to Japan (booked before that video cane out) has any room to complain. That's just my 2 cents...
That's an interesrting take. Thanks for sharing
