I loved the Wave but this place looks great also. I hope it stays fairly under the radar and remains a place you can get into without a big hassle and can relax with some upscale but not exorbitantly priced classy food!
I wish in the hall they had a photo of what that location used to be...which was an incredible games room. In the 70s it would have been one of the best in the world and yet it's never talked about.
I am still not a fan of the decor. They went from one extreme to another. It reminds me of a school or hospital cafeteria…but the dark was definitely worse. I would also like to know about Genie is going to change things because we are going next September.
💯 The new Steakhouse 71 decor is fugly. Totally looks like a cafeteria. Just horrible -- not at all what a 'steakhouse' should look like, or any expensive restaurant. 🤮
I try to eat at Steakhouse 71 after a long day at Magic Kingdom (and then go back into the park after dinner) I usually get the "Bacon & Eggs" appetizer, and the Prime Rib with the Red Wine sauce and Mac & Cheese.
We loved the Wave. It was a regular on our breakfast circuit. The sweet potato pancakes and the frattata were always amazing. We were super fans of Steakhouse 55 also. Our meals were consistently delicious. I was very sorry to learn that it closed. We will give Steakhouse 71 a try our next visit. Thanks AJ!
So much more excited for Steakhouse 71 than we ever were about The Wave. The menu looks amazing. Several times we had walked into The Wave to get a walk up reservation which was ALWAYS available and after looking at the menu turned around and walked back out and just went to Contempo Cafe.
I loved your review. 👍🏼 I do have to compare our experiences dining at Steakhouse 71 in regard to the noise level. I have been more than once and the noise level was a definite problem. Think Black Friday at Walmart for noise volume. It was hard for the wait staff to hear the orders placed by guests and difficult to converse during the meal. Others have mentioned the same problem so perhaps you were lucky. My experiences were during breakfast service so perhaps the screeching kids were recharged and testing their vocal cords but it certainly took away from having a pleasant experience. The place was LOUD!
Being a vegetarian,I will always miss the sweet potato pasta dish at the Wave. This used to be my favorite meal on every Disney trip. The menu at this new restaurant is not for me.
@@jessvlogs2518what if their group wanted to eat there? Or what if the pasta was something they were looking forward to every year? People are allowed to want options and most Disney restaurants offer a plant based alternative.
Hey all - just commenting to say I’m taking an upcoming trip next week and I’ve been on the phone with Disney to schedule a few things. I’ve asked them if resort hopping is allowed and I was informed that it was, so, as much as I love DFB, I would definitely call or double check with cast members to be sure!
I can tell you last week we were not allowed in the poly or gf because we were not staying there. Both security guards said if you are not staying at this resort or have a reservation at the restaurant then you are not allowed to park in their lots. You can go to ttc and walk over as another option.
We just got back yesterday (10/8). We drove to the Poly for a dinner reservation and to watch the fireworks from the beach. At the gate we were asked our name for our dinner reservation before we were let in. We also did lunch at GF on our MK day and just rode over on the monorail from the park with no issue. So, my takeaway is you can probably resort hop if using Disney transportation but not your own transportation.
I enjoy deep diving into everything on the menu. Please cover more and everything in all the restaurants so I can say “Aj showed me this!” Next time I am there!! It also will help when I want something but unsure if I’ll like it and want yo know how it looks.
This was the best place to eat chili and chicken nuggets while your kids played games at the arcade. Spent many hours there through the years. Missed it when it was closed down.
AJ, you’ve done it again! I loved The Wave. Ate several meals there. Once we didn’t have a reservation so we ate in the lounge. The food was great and we were totally comfortable in the lounge. When I heard that The Wave was closing I was upset. After watching your video review on Steakhouse 71, I can’t wait to try it. The video was perfectly shot and, as always, your review was perfect. Next trip to WDW, Steakhouse 71 is going to be a must stop for us, assuming we stay in the Contemporary as we usually do. Thanks for a great job, as usual. For me, you make DFB the great success that it is.
So glad to hear they kept the bacon and eggs on the menu! The Wave became our go to lunch/dinner spot during our day in the MK. I always ordered a salad or soup with the bacon and eggs as my entree. My teenage son goes as far as to say the B and E is the best dish in WDW. I haven’t come up with a viable argument to this claim yet. I cannot wait to try out SH 71!
Been obsessed with this channel (next year will hopefully be when we make the journey to disneyworld) but i was wondering if there is a video on Sugar free food options?
Genie will help you find last minute dining if you don’t have a reservation or suggest quick service with lower wait times, it will also make suggestions for times to eat based on forecasted wait times. In terms of the reservations you want for table service, you will still have to book 60 days in advance for the more popular spots and that will be done through your My Disney Experience, not Genie. Hope that helps!
I just went for breakfast it was so good! I had the potatoes as a side and let me tell you it was yummy. My bestie has the steak and eggs it was yummy. I also went for lunch the steak was so good even my fiancés well done steak was juicy and full of flavor. I had a medium steak it was to die for. The onion rings are the only onion rings I’ve had when I spilt it in half the onion doesn’t come out. I loved them!
Well I’m old! I remember what it was at first! It was a Quick Service Restaurant! You could grab burgers, hot dogs , fries and such ,it was pretty large! It looked on to a huge video game room ,also it was very big! You could sit and watch your children playing games while you ate! But staying at the hotel back then was under 100.00 for Florida residents ! A family vacation was actually affordable for an average family … oh did I mention getting into MK was 3.50 for entrance and you could then buy tickets for ABCDE rides in a book for a few books under 20.00 for the whole family ! Oh how things have changed !!!!!
Planning a family trip in the fall of 2022. The kids are grown up so we were planning a monorail bar hop, but don't know if that will be possible with the COVID restrictions. Fingers crossed.
The great thing about the Wave was the food. Always dependable. Decor just didn’t matter to me. I’m hoping they bring back the breakfast buffet - best in all of WDW.
Really late to the game watching this video, but the review of Steakhouse 71 was just what I was looking for. We decided to add this restaurant onto our next visit. We're staying at the Contemporary for the first time, and was hoping SH71 was a good choice as it will be within walking distance after a day in the park. Thanks for the video, and I just subscribed to your newsletter also.
Now I want a prime rib… dang it. Loved this vid, the burger looks awesome (until you’ve had my husband’s burgers, I’m required to mention.) Does the restaurant seem a little bright though? I think I’d prefer a bit more moodiness with a dinner of prime rib or what have you. Breakfast & even lunch, ok, but too bright for dinner imho.
I loves your review. Our family has been follow your Disney information for a while. Your reviews are definitely helpful for our upcoming trip in Disney bubbles. I appreciated if maybe you could also include some reviews/ recommendations on the restaurant/food for allergy people?
Got a lunch reservation for the first week of November. Breakfast & lunch reservations were plentiful the week I’m visiting but not dinner, which is ok because I just want to try the burger
I’m not sure why in May, I ate my only meal at the Wave. Service was meh- the cast member looked miserable (although probably had a poor customer or something) and other than the amazing bacon and eggs, me and the other 3 I was with just felt it wasn’t worth the hype. Now losing Steakhouse 55 at Disneyland was a travesty!!!! I’m praying Steakhouse 71 makes me feel a little piece of it still lives
Okay, I'm not much of a steakhouse person but I think I'm swayed by that burger and grilled cheese! Are they still serving breakfast/brunch at California Grill? I know they were doing that after The Wave closed, but I wasn't sure if that was temporary or not.
I was just at Disney last week and had no problem resort hopping without a reservation....if you flash a blue DVC card they let you right through no questions
WHAT are those pastry-like things at minute 23:37, and where do I find them? Actually, DFBGuide, are they as good as they look? Thanks for all your reviews! We definitely make decisions based on them.
Can you park at this resort for just the restaurant ? Cos on the map I can’t see access unless by monorail … we are planning to go Hollywood studios but steakhouse 71 breakfast first, where should we park?
So you can't drive to another resort, can you take a Disney bus or monorail? We're going next year and I'm toying with the idea of grabbing a drink and snack at California Grill lounge, just so we can go back to watch the fireworks at Magic Kingdom. Anyone know if this is doable?
I lived there and resort hopped all the time using Disney transportation. It was never an issue. Only parking my own car at the resort was sometimes an issue without a reservation
What if you make reservations in advance, then find out morning of that you could only get ride, you wanted in location far from your reservation? Is Disney going to still charge cancelation fees?
to be honest, quite disappointed, with the Mary Blair mural at the forefront of the monorail station at Contemporary. I was hoping they could embrace that vibe, make the restaurant a bit akin to Wonderland on Royal Caribbean ships. Fusion with a little bit of flair and fun from Mary Blair. This is in no way "contemporary", but i guess Disney went with this because of market studies and more profit?
would love to see more videos like this where you go over every single item on the menu

I love the deep-dive videos like this one more than the shallow ones that are more like travel agent videos.
The wave was our go to restaurant to kick back and relax. Always our first and last dinner. The wave will be missed.
I was fortunate enough to be at The Wave for it's final dinner service. Looking forward to Steakhouse 71 during my next trip.
That’s awesome! Did they do anything special that day?
@@Mikayla_Y_1998 it was a special reservation booked by the owner of the Dis Unplugged podcast. The Bacon and Egg appetizer was amazing.

Do you think you could make a video of trying all the 50th anniversary treats in the parks?
This burger was the best thing I’ve ever eaten on Disney property
