Don't miss out on this video about eu5, you will regret it otherwise! ua-cam.com/video/MluHfVrlegs/v-deo.html
You look tired, exhausted, and are slightly slurring your words in this video. Are you ok Ludi? Don't work yourself too hard, take a vacation if you feel like it.
2nd call... Bro we should meet I am aviator too
There’s ur 200k
Bruh Maastricht is flatlands WTF
We have hills in this part of The Netherlands, like I live 160 meters above sea level and this isn't even the highest point....
Alum is a sulfate of aluminum used in dyes. Aluminum is named after alum.
Fun fact, used in modern times in wastewater treatment to get rid of colloids.
also used as an after shave, learned that in 6th grade chemistry
@@thepower7803 would never guess that was a fun fact
@@JamesC1981 I was replying to a historic alum use case. Your opinion is silly and irrelevant.
@@thepower7803 i know what you did it seems a very random thing to be called fun fact lol
I am from Picardy and the presence of Picard culture is historically accurate, it was a thing and had its own dialect (French dialects are called patois in France). Walloon and Picard patois were actually quite close to each other and were for instance characterised by the use of the letter w. You can to this day see towns names starting with a w, which is pretty much an exception in France.
You do realize they were languages and calling them dialects is just propaganda of the French government
Damn right, Always been sad not to see picard as an actual culture in game ( I am also a Ludi weeboo from Picardie by the way)
Is that where the Captain of the USS Enterprise D has his vineyard?
but what about the actual language? how mutually understandable was it to, say, Paris French of the time?
@@marcusaurelius4941Picard and French both come from old frankish which they diverged from. The grammar of both languages is quite similar but vocabulary and many other things aren't.
Ludi can you do a video about your historical knowledge? what you studied, how many books you read, you area of expertise, what made you love history, the first historical game you played or movie you watched. I think many people are interested to know you more
😂
Meat rider
As a Dutch person I can confirm that Flevoland is an Island. Or well.. technically it is not really an island? Flevoland is a big area in the middle of the Netherlands where the Dutch people just built a lot of dykes and then removed all the water within those dykes. I am not entirely sure if that counts as an island tbh 😂
An island is just a piece of land surrounded by water, so whether it's man-made or not doesn't matter. That means that the Flevopolder is an island, as it is surrounded by water, but the Noordoostpolder isn't, as it has a land border with Overijssel and Friesland.
You are absolutely correct, kind Sir!
My point was that most islands I know rise out above the waterlevel, while the Flevopolder as far as I know lays below the waterlevel of the IJsselmeer. I agree with you that it matches the definition of an island, but at the same time it also seems to match the definition of a depression (and a polder of course).
Actually Flevoland is the name of the newly created (reclaimed from the sea) province, consisting of two parts: the 'Flevopolder' and the 'Noordoostpolder'. Only the Flevopolder could be considered an island (Although it's only seperated from the mainland by a canal)
That whole island or Polder area like the Dutch call it is not older than 50 years I think with the cities of Lelystad and Almere.
i believe thats called a hole.
i am so exited for eu5
dont paradox is releasing bad games as of late.
@@alfonsklapa3353 Judging by their focus on economy, it will probably just be victoria 3 in late middle ages which seems very underwhelming.
@@gurrierpl the last dlc's of games were really bad too
I am entranced myself for eu5
Will be same game with better graphics and maybe some new dynamics
Really curious how they're doing technology in eu5
The same but remastered. Eu4 mods gave them a lot of ideas.
8:20 That guy is also legend here in Czechia. He was blind and still fought against the English. His son was Charles IV. is considered to be our best Czech king, his mother was from house Přemyslid, which was the previous ruling house, so he is pretty well connected to our rulers. He build many great things (university, Charles bridge...) and even became HRE emperor
KCD?????
@@thepower7803 Yeah, Charles IV. is mentioned in KCD, Wenceslaus IV. is his son.
In my opinion they should give a bonus for controlling the entirety of important rivers not just estuaries. Rivers were an important transport routes and controlling entirety of it was beneficial for the trade in the region. For example Vistula river was an important route for Polish grain going down to Gdansk where grain was later loaded on ships and sold across Europe. It was a major factor in building wealth of Poland. The country was known as a Bread Basket of Europe for a longer while.
Fairly sure Bruges still reigned supreme as the biggest trader of the three flemish cities in 1337, not to mention starting at Bruges there could be an introduction of events to show how the dominance of trade in the low countries moved from Bruges, to Ghent, to Antwerp to Rotterdam/Amsterdam.
Yeah but the only thing I would change about your suggestion is to make the Antwerp to Amsterdam move only if there is an independent Netherlands that does *not* controll Antwerp. As the reason Amsterdam became the dominant trade centre is because Antwerp, which was controlled by the Republic, fell to the Spanish after which, due to Spain's policy towards non catholics, alot of people fled from Antwerp to Amsterdam. This combined with the Dutch blockade of the Westerschelde made this happen. There wouldn't be a point of moving the dominant trade centre from Antwerp to Amsterdam if the city is controlled by the Netherlands itself.
@@dylanvogler2165 Good point! So much chance for flavor in EU5.
Hope amber is gonna be implemented as a trade good as well, it was quite an important trade good back in the days especially in the baltic regions.
Felt like it was allways missing in EU4.
I hope that the central finnish region is not an integrated part of Sweden or Novgorod, because Sweden held only control in the costal area, in the duchy of finland only taxation in whole finnish region, while Novgorod and Hansa controlled almost all of the trade. The further it went inland the swedish control drasticly diminished.
Guess it could only be an autonomy thing
i am wondering why they show "mönchenglatbach" and "neuss" but not krefeld (Spelled Crefeld in old times)
i know krefeld wasnt a city until 1373 but it was first named in documents 1105.
Next to Lyon und Zürich its the main city for silk in europe.
in fact it was known as the "Velvet and Silk City" and the most importent City for Silk in the german area.
much more famous history then the regions they show there xD
The names for Ghent and Bruges should be either Gent and Brugge (as it is in Dutch) or Gand and Bruges (as in French). Makes little sense that these have their English names, but other towns in the area keep their Dutch/French names.
Also, the division between Dutch/Flemish/Walloon/French wasn't as pronounced as it is now. People's languages was much more similar than it is portrayed here (North France had a language very similar to Brugge and Ieper).
The division between Dutch and French was definitely pronounced. The difference is just that parts of what is now Northern France still spoke Dutch
I dont think they intentionally didn't use english names for dutch towns i mean there bassically are no english version for Roermond zutphen etc
@@Xristos888 But they do use "Noord Holland" and "Zuid Holland", while also using "Flanders" instead of "Vlaanderen"
Great video. You are my weekly paradox news channel. Keep the amazing work up!
Historically the netherlands had to import lots of Scandinavian timber to be able to drive piles into the swamp to stabilize more than a shack. So it would make sense the lowlands has no timber. Maybe some lumber, but an intact 80 foot tree should be quite rare
The March of the Eagles Prequel is looking great
Looks like you are at 200k! Congratulations and well deserved 🙂
Hold up just because there are 5 new European maps which are all similar to EU4s, doesn't necessarily mean project Caesar will be EU5.
Look it could still be Imperator 2, surely?
It's hearts of iron 3 2
Stellaris 2?
It can't be a sequel to EU4, it's set at an earlier date! This game must either be EU3 or CK4.
congrats for the 200k subs. just saw it 🏅🏅 you deserve it with such good contents.
This is so good to see. I personally loved and played Voltaire's nightmare a lot because of its scope and scale. It will be very interesting to see the situation in France, northern Italy and Iberia
Great video!! I like it!
I know it’s an effort but one thing I’d really like is if they did the dynamic province names (or locations for eu5) properly as it add so much more realism and roleplay feel to the game
Love to see these updates on the new game. I've been playing eu4 for years and I'm so excited for the next game
What!! I'm really impressed im near Hardewijk and didn't even know Salt was produced here in the middle ages and that it was all marshland, I just verified it and was amazed by the fact. The Dikes here where build in 1356.
Yeah, historical accuracy is important but gameplay/ balance is supreme.
I rather have a historical gameplay, a balanced eu5 sounds terrible for me.
Kinda wierd if a small tribe is gonna be as strong as france or something
@@Bigsmoke11001 That's clearly not what I mean, but other regions than those that dominated in the real world should have a chance, they shouldn't be steam rolled every single campaign, the balance as to be finely tuned with a much higher chance for historical events to play out as they have in the past, but not 99-1 but maybe 75-25 or even 66-34. And that requires a fine balance.
@@tobiasL1991 Oh ok. I agree with that.
Thing is, more historical depth and accuracy will translate Into more flavour potential and immersion which is part of the gameplay experience.
@@douglastakle8242 I mean it's a balance right, even in EU4 you have a balance, Ottoman and France blobs are like 98% likely, maybe adjust those a bit to 90-10 or 80-20, powerful states should be powerful but history is finnicky small changes can have big consequences yet this rarely happens in EU4 and I'd like EU5 to be more finely balanced.
From what i remember rotterdam wasn't a city by the start day
Instead of Medicaments, it should probably be Herbs or something like that
i absolutely love the attention to detail that PDX is committing to Caesar. I just want to remind everyone that at the end of the day this is supposed to be a "Game". And that means that for it to be successful, it must prioritize game balance over historical accuracy and detail. If PDX is able to complete this hella ambitious game while maintaining the same (or better) levels of balance, optimization, and anti-exploitation as they had in EU4, they will have created the absolute ultimate 4X Grand Strategy Game.
I’m willing to wait ten more years if they can do this properly
I hope we can get a clean frontier along the full course of the Rhine and Danube rivers, to use as powerful natural borders.
It's just funny that the start date is leet (1337) on the first of April. A very elaborate joke. Cheers Tinto
I'd like to see for example like in eu4 you have a maximum combat width less than the maximum in mountains for example to not be able to move your army through mountains with a big stack but to have them separated to go through. Also a movement speed increase in flatlands and one reduced in mountains would be more flavourful.
The level of depth will be amazing. I'm glad there are a lot of terrain types. It will make battles more strategic and rewarding if you plan correctly.
Pretty cool to see how in the terrain that narrows are separate from coastal. Should mak naval combat super interesting
Hey Ludi, love watching your videos. Keep it up and hopefully you hit 200k subs soon so we can have EU5 lol
many thanks brother
Would love to see wool/cloth as the trade good in Bruges, as the city was renowned for its spinners and weavers
As a person from Lingen i appreciate to be mentioned
Ludi could you please play as the nation of Mikmaq in eu4 it is on the east coat of North America in Nova Scotia
Heh, the frisian freedom reminds me of a little Easter egg from meiou and taxes. Because I think we didn't have good sources for 1356, we just used frisian freiheit (freedom) as the republic ruler until an election happened. That can't be a coincidence can it?
Thx again for hard work!!! Love from Russia
As a Proud 'Drenthenaar' i hope they go with option 2 and add the west / low Saxon culture group🙏
"Maybe even _after_ I get 200k subs."
"Are you threatening us, Mr. Historia?"
200k lets gooooo!
Johan also put up a list of all the goods
Lumber shortage in central Europe is a thing. Look up norrbyskär, it's a small set of islands in northern Sweden that for a period of time exported immense amounts of lumber and experienced a gold rush basically.
I want force limits for armies to march through an area, such that a large army is more or less restricted to traveling through flat grasslands.
Terrain historically played a huge role in where armies marched.
If that's not possible, for whatever reason, then significant scaling modifiers for army marching speed and attrition through various terrain such that you'll get a warning that marching XYZ army through that route is suicidal. The larger the army, the greater the penalty.
I can't believe its been so many years and this is ACUTALLY happening
If the game starts with the beginning of the Hundred Years´ War it will be in October, when Edward III rejects Philip VI as king of France or in November with the Battle of Cadzand (in 1337 in Flanders but today part of Zeeland)
A couple of the abbreviated regions would be Utr.=Utrecht; Cui=Cuijk; Cle.= Kleven; Hor=Horne; Jül=Jülich; Gel.=Gelre; Val.=Valkenburg; Aa.=Aken; Lim.=Limburg; S.M.= Stavelot-Malmedy; Nam.= Namur/Namen; Cam.= Cambrai/Kamerijk. Here hoping a formable lower-lotharingia can be formed as Benelux/low country countries.
Omg - very important thing to notice: All the trade goods are basic resources.... no "Naval Supplies" no "Glass". My hunch is that this means they will introduce a manufactories concept to produce manufactured goods on top of the basic goods so you can specialise your country on a macro-economic level - Very exciting!
9:50 Oh my god! They added my hometown! That's so cool in a paradox game. Can't wait to make my hometown, the historic city, as the trade center of the world!
Eu5 is unplayable for me without the County of Bentheim (Greatest country world has ever seen)
Maybe you are able to release it from Tecklenburg. Wouldn`t put my hopes in to that. The greatest County btw is Oldenburg its so great that it don't even need flavor after all these years of EU 4 . Besides the von Oldenburg dynasty is so wide spread, King Christian was the "Idiot King of Denmark" and his failurs helped the swedes to gain relevance in the 30 Years War and it was around as an entety until the "Bonner Republik" when they denied Oldenburg a Freestate status like Bavaria. Looking at you Paradox. But non the less always looking forward to more contend in the Lowlands/Northern Germany/Skandinavia Regions.
Omg yes, I would love that. It having stone as a production source would be awsome as well.
@@sinepressorggithcirFreestate is not a status, it's the German word for republic.
@@dereinepeterpan5637no, Staat or Bundesland is the German word for state.
The word for republic is Republik
Freestate, or Freistaat is indeed a status granted to bavaria, Thuringia and Saxony.
Source: I am german
@@Carlo_von_Habsburg No. What rights does the Freestate (again, the German word for Republic) of Bavaria have over NRW or Niedersachsen?
Ludi clearly needs to play Zee. when eu5 releases
I am not so familiar with west Europe, but out of what I know - it's quite accurate maps
Eyooooo my home town is in the game!! No more just oversticht, Let's goo!!
Lol
i wonder if tradegoods are changing, as the area around mönchengladbach (krefeld as i said in other post) was the most famous german city for silk and the center of silk and velvet production in europe
Those are base trade goods what comes as resource of location. Cloth or fabrics will be available as manufacture trade goods where you required buildings and production method.
There was silkworm farms in Mönchengladbach? I dunno. Maybe they will have events like with Chinaware in Meissen
I hope that the earlier starter date and improved maps mean that the original Canary Islanders (AKA Guanches) get some love. Took the Normans and Castillians nearly a century to conquer the 7 islands IRL so no pushovers. Would add so much flavour to Western Africa region
Iberia may be split into many more countries in EU5. The Crown of Castile and the Crown of Aragon were groupings of personal unions in themselves, not unitary nations. Crown of Castile was split into Castile proper, León, Galicia, Toledo, etc. Crown of Aragon was Aragon proper, Catalonia, Valencia, Majorca, etc.
Hello, about Hainaut (which is pronounced "éno"), they should split Mons in 2, where the northern part would be Soignies ("swani") in order to put stones as a tradegood. The quarries of Soignies provided stones for Flanders and Hainaut for centuries. And by the way the good that were the most exported goods of the region (for Mons, Gent or Bruges at least), were the wool and the woven fabrics that were a direct competition for the english merchants by the end of the middle ages.
It would be better if we had the culture as detailed as possible, with systems in place so that the closer the culture the more insignificant the malus.
I'm a simple man, Ludi calls Jang de Blannen an absolute chad and I am happy 😃🇱🇺
I wonder if Pavia knows what happened in 1386 in Falaise. Quite a weird story when you know about it.
Love these updates Ludi!! Can I please have my wallet back now that I complemented you?
I hope they add Tiel, as it became a Hanseatic city in 1339. Lumping it in with Nijmegen makes for a pretty long Guelders-sausage, even though the betuwe-region was fought over quite a bit more in those days.
Alum is used in dyeing fabrics!
Can't wait to play in the HRE in this game
Possibly, the Vegetation map serves primarily for economic purposes, while the Terrain map is predominantly used for military strategizing. For instance, if the terrain indicates hills and another map indicates the presence of forests, it's unclear how this could impact the fucking army
In that screen, there are more provinces than in the entirety of France, Spain, and the Lowlands region in EU4. That's quite staggering.
It looks like the eastern Frisian islands were cut off. I would love to see Langeoog, Spiekeroog and Wangerooge up there too :(
pretty cool the netherlands has Drenthe now actually as a province. Thats so cool
14:50 Rennois - from city of Reims
I really hope they go for option 2 with the cultures. It seems like they based cultures off of languages, which is my expertise (maybe not time period accurate though), and I'm nervous to see what they did with France.
Ludi, there hasn’t been a eu4 horde video for a long time, maybe it’s time? ;)
i got a juicy horde video coming soon brother
Lol just had a thought, Mummia should be produced in Egypt at some point in Eu5, as it was highly sought after as a 'medicament'
By the way "Gau" just means something like province, region or area in German.
So the province of Agrandin. In English for your videos just say Agrandin-(space)-gau and dont mush the words together, as they are also separately said in German.
But it is a very old term not used anymore, the last use was by the regional party organizations of the mustache-party. (Only the party had their local organizations called "Gau", while the German state was organized differently with different terms and organisations")
But you can still see quite a few rural areas having Gau in their name, like Gau Algesheim or Gau Odernheim.
Kemptenland should be Kempenland or Campania.
Personally I'd like the second option for culture division, even if that makes it harder gameplay wise. It's more accurate especially for that time.
Dude this is fucking exciting, I've probably never hyped for another game like that. It looks super detailed with a lot of historical accuracies and I really hope it will be difficult to undersant to play the game. (I don't really want every single player to learn that game easily, in that way EU5 is going to be a high-quality game for experts.)
I wonder if Mansa Musa will still be around, wiki lists his death to aproximately 1337
The byzantines love a good ludi video!!!!
I would support smaller cultures as long as they are overshadowed as one whole culture, kinda like as is local culture develop specialties over time and that that would give some kinda bonus. Not sure tho how implementable that is tho
this is a really good idea, big brain actually, hope pdx sees this
Make Brandenburg bigger! My source is I made it up
I'm pretty sure that 'Ste.' is Steinfurt.
Dang. Someone with a PhD in history is making video games for us? That's exciting.
Круто!
Hey Ludi! What's your opinion on the latest eu4 dlc?
Ludi! The Venice video been sitting at 10k likes for almost 24 hours now 👀, where’s the vid?
Although Overijssel is not wrong Oversticht would be more appropriate name historically. The reason is it was the "lands beyond" therefore Oversticht.
Kuuk!!! The heerlijkheid Cuijk becomes playable! People in the Land van Cuijk will like that!
Ludi, now that you have 200k subs, why not do a video on rant for some of the mechanics from previous Paradox games like March of Eagles, Sengoku, or something like these?
Now I want see military tattic as ambush(that is very effective in forest) raids and thing like that
hah! the china collapse videos example is true and hillarious xD
Will goods produced depend on seasonal changes?. Did some states produce food during spring/summer then turn to other production during winter such as lumber ?.
The ois bit may be champenois
I just hope the learning curb isn’t too big because I’d like to play this game
CK3 is basically the only paradox game I can understand 😅
Finally the strength of the Flemish has been realized !!!!
Should be Low Franconian and Low Saxon and they should be part of the Low German culture group.
I doubt that the vegetation map mode exists only for supply size and unit interactions. If the MEIOU devs are involved, it will probably have a lot to do with food and timber production.
Ludi I'm going to need a Zee playthrough. RESTORE VIKING EUROPE!
Yeah, the Duke of Luxembourg was such a Chad that he tied himself to his men and charged the English lines because he was blind. So he just died
I also miss Oudewater in the province of Utrecht
