    Great video, fun but professional reviews. Would love to see a review on KSDigital monitors, like the a100 (2-way), or a200 (3-way).This european manufacturer may not be very popular, but it's offering a number of interesting products at very competitive prices, and there's not a lot of information on UA-cam about them.

    I had the pleasure of testing these out some years ago (the non M model) and holy cow, they ARE impressive. Superb stereo imaging, extreme detail insight and a non fatiguing twitter, yet very open and clear. They are super musical yet very clinical at the same time, without sounding cold. After that listen, PSI became my dream monitor over brands such as Quested, Genelec, Neumann, Focal, and others.

    • @Screaming-Trees
      @Screaming-Trees 2 роки тому

      I don't think there was ever a "non M" mode as you say. But you are right about dream monitor. I don't think Focal or Genelec even belong in the same sentence. Maybe Genelec's new range but that's full of DSP stuff and I think, for me, that disqualifies it from being truly a high end product.

    I have been using the A-17s for aout six weeks. I can confirm they are indeed superb within accoustic instrument and vocal range: piano, drum kit, electric guitars orchestral strings and brass,double bass. If you produce within that range these monitors are amazng imo.
    While they do indeed have a bigger sound than one would expect from monitors this size there is no escaping the fact these are primarily mid focussed monitors with a smallish 5.1" intenal diameter woofer.
    They roll-off quite steeply under 60Hz and little presence under 50Hz (to my ears)
    Consequently they are not well suited to electronic music: electric drums (eg 808 909 kicks and synth bass etc) where so much character is located in that below 50Hk range.
    I am going to add a sub in the medium terms and the PSI A-125 would be an ideal match however be prepared to pay 90% of the cost of the A-17s for the sub. V.expensive to manufacture n Switerland.

    The burgundy, studio red or to decide your discussion RAL tone 3005 coloured ones are beautiful. Sadly, they are small speakers for a "high" price and not huge speakers for a low price, so I will not bother thinking of them. Have had these for 2 years. Really nice sounding but definitely on the darker side I find. I have to reference in headphones a lot for sibilance and other harsh high end frequencies. I find they are not that revealing in those areas. You guys notice that?

    • @NeilZ2k15
      @NeilZ2k15 Рік тому

      Not darker, no. The tweeters are detailed and manufactured in such a way that (here's the kicker) resonances do not form as they would in traditional loudspeakers. This makes them unrealistic in the sense that you can boost highs for days and it sounds great, until you listen on traditional playback systems. Then you hear those resonances as you would expect.
      They started building new tweeters in late 2021 I think it was for the a17-m. Hopefully they resolved this overly pleasing driver! It sounds fantastic though haha just a bit of a learning curve. Can't work from "that's too much, just a little less will do"; have to start from the bottom- this sounds a bit dark, let's give it a little more

    • @reneegillman4744
      @reneegillman4744 Рік тому

      @@NeilZ2k15 Yes, exactly..overly pleasing is a good way to put it. Only upside to that is the ears don't fatigue as fast haha. It's only a certain range of the high mids that I wish presented those resonances a little more obviously but oh well. The low mids are really incredible though and very revealing. The lows are also extremely impressive too for a speaker this size. Curious to try the three-way models.

    As black metal speakers, can you only mix Venom or Bathory etc on them? Mind you, if Mark was remixing some early Napalm Death tracks on them, that could explain why he only needed 14 seconds (one for the old folks, there).
    Still wondering though... can a two-way really cover the sound spectrum as well as a good three-way (Hedd, Neumann, Focal... etc) at a similar price (of around 3 grand a pair)..? That is, to be useful across a wider range, rather than just a good/better mid-range..?

    • @PresentDayProduction
      @PresentDayProduction  2 роки тому

      We found these speakers in the Black Metal forests of Scandinavia!
      You are correct about three ways being a little more accurate in the mid range, simply because there is a driver to focus precisely on the mid-range, and so there is more headroom and precise engineering for each section of the sound spectrum

      Either of them should be an upgrade from KH310's. The A21 will offer better bass response than the A17 - although not by much. You're safe with either option. We've never been fans of the KH310 - when Jamie had a very similar pair and upgraded to ATC SCM35's, the difference was truly night and day and he sold the KH's the day after buying the ATC's! The PSi's will offer the same improvement here. It's the kind of thing where once you've heard it, you'll wonder why you ever liked the 310's.

      They have no competition at that price range. If you've never tried these this might sound like a strange statement but they have no competition at that price point. I went with the A17 pair over the Neumann 310. I thought the 310s were great but the A17's were, well, better. Use them with a sub though and a whole other world opens up. YOu'll wonder how you ever did without. I'd buy the A25s from them if I didn't already have Geithain 901k for mains. As far as nearfields go however I think the A17's are the best speaker in the world. This new version with 210 watts per side is probably a little excessive even. The old ones were just fine with their more modest power platform. But I guess in our world louder/bigger equals better always. Marketing always wins in the end it seems.

    Will it be a huge difference from mine PMC results + sub?

    • @Screaming-Trees
      @Screaming-Trees 2 роки тому +2

      A17 + sub will be a hell of a lot better than your PMC results + sub. The stereo image on PMCs has always been a little ambigous. It is pin sharp on the PSI. Perfect phase. Moreover, you'll get rid of the DSP which, in my opinion, is a pretty weird trend. Especially if you have a hybrid workflow with an analogue front end. Plug an analogue synth in and you'll never hear it in analogue with your PMCs. DSP is, if you think about it, the cheapest way, and the laziest way, to make a speaker.

    • @RAYSHIO
      @RAYSHIO 2 роки тому +1

      @@Screaming-Trees my PMC's are full analogue(no dsp processing) as well as my Eve audio TS108, even crossover filter is analogue. DA conversion is happening only once in my Universal Audio interface.

    • @Screaming-Trees
      @Screaming-Trees 2 роки тому +2

      @@RAYSHIO I dont' know about that. PMC have become very cagey about what's in their amplifier section. Before I bought my Geithains for mains PMC invited me to Funkhaus in Berlin to demo some of their offerings. Namely the XBD range. PMC were very explicit that almost their entire range was class D amplifiers with DSP save for IB1S (active or passive). I would think that would include your speakers. Doing a bit of digging around it does appear that Result line of speakers are all class D powered.
      Strictly speaking you can implement class D amplifiers to be fully analogue but I don't think anyone's done this yet (PMC included). The whole point of going class D is approach AB class type fidelity but lower the cost. Implementing class D in analogue might ruin your cost requirements. If you're under the impression that your Result 6 hasn't a force AD/DA stage in it I'd be calling my rep and asking for an explanation/confirmation. I think your impressions are mistaken.
      Funnily enough this isn't why we went Geithain over PMC. I genuinely like PMC and what they are doing. Their customer service is great. It came down to phase and stereo image. Geithains just wiped the floor with the XBD range. I suppose that's to be expected when you have a coaxial arrangement type speaker vs a more traditional speaker like the XBD. Or at least I thought a much until I heard PSI which have a traditional driver arrangement but near perfect phase and stereo image (like the Geithains). That was a big surprise. To see PSI achieve something like what Geithain can do with point source driver arrangement was a bit of an indictment of PMC's approach. In my mind anyway. Clearly traditional driver arrangements can produce excellent phase response and stereo imaging that are nearly as good as coaxial arrangements but this wasn't the case on the PMCs we demoed. That was what lost them the business in our case.
      IN your case, and back to your question, the Result line is an entry level speaker with a class D amplifier. Most of PSI's range is class G/H (more efficient AB). Class D just isn't good enough to compete with high quality AB/GH type amplifiers yet. But more importantly, if the XBD range doesn't quite have the stereo imaging and phase response that can approach what PSI do I could only surmise that your Result line doesn't either.
      Demo them if you don't believe me and definitely demo them if you want to know for sure. On the whole forced AD/DA stage in the speaker, well I don't know. As I say I was under the impression that all their speakers are pretty much subjected to that now. Best way to find out is to call your rep though.
