Tommy at the Icelandic Festival, Islendingadagurinn, in Gimli 2023 with Icelandic Grandma May!

- Tommy was so lucky to go to the Icelandic Festival in Gimli, Manitoba, the Islendingadagurinn, with his Grandma May, who is Icelandic! Grandma May's first language was Icelandic, as her parents were both from Iceland. Grandma May has wanted to go the the Islendingadagurinn her whole life! At 92, she finally went! We met with our Icelandic cousins there- some we already knew, and others we met there for the first time! We were so happy to meet them :) Tommy of course had lots of questions for everyone, and Tyrone of course was perfectly behaved! It was a great day, and we hope you enjoy this video. Cousin Greg and Aunt Kathy came too, and Tommy had fun being with everyone. To all our Icelandic cousins or "frændi" we appreciate each of you, and your warm welcoming of us every time we meet! Looks so fun Tommy! Maybe I'll bump into you and Tyrone one day at Disney with my service dog, Phoenix :) he helps me with fibromyalgia and is a big black german shepherd, he looks like Thunderbolt from 101 Dalmations except he's all black. I want him to meet Cruella de Vil!
I didn't know Tommy's grandma May was Icelandic! When I heard the bagpipes at the start in the video, it reminded me of when they would have bagpipes and such at my high school graduation. When I saw Tommy greeting the soldier, it made me think of my neighbors who are in their late 60s (Verne and Fritz - both are 68!) who have served our nation. I always tell them on Veterans Day "Thank you for serving our country!" For Veterans Day in 2022, I got my neighbor Verne a canvas bag I made which had Sergeant Calhoun on it from Wreck-It Ralph. It said, "IT'S MAKE OUR VETERANS PROUD TIME... THANKS FOR SERVING OUR COUNTRY!" (a reference to Calhoun's "It's make your mamas proud time!" quote from Wreck-It Ralph). The clowns in the parade also reminded me of when I would see clown bands in the Strawberry Festival parade in Albion, NY. When I saw the woodturning crafts, it made me think of what my father has been doing lately - he has taken up doing woodworking since 2012. I had seen the projects, and I was all, "It's like what my dad does!" (furthermore, he has sold some of his stuff at many craft shows - last summer he got first prize in two of 'em!) I liked how they had the goats in the parade. If you view my channel, there's this goat that was at the county fair who was QUITE the diva! Hope you guys are doing well in Canada! -Andrea

I’m so happy that May got to experience this elegant festival celebrating her heritage at 92 years young! I’m also very happy that Tommy is doing okay and so are you Maryann!
