- This is the toughest event of the competition.
The Impossible Hill Climb French Championship stopped in Arette on Sunday 21 August.
The objective of the day for the 67 motorcyclists present: to successfully climb the hill of La Mouline. But with a slope between 70 and 82% and 230 meters to cover, it is not so easy.
This year it's the return of the spectators but it's also the return of the injured. "The motorcycles bounce quite a bit, don't stop immediately after the fall, there are a lot of stones thrown up," explains Jérémy Lapeyrie. "But it's the vagaries of the climb!"

I feel like everybody was losing too much momentum when they slowed to squeeze through that first rut section. But I’m not sure ramping it would give you better odds of winning! Lol enjoyed it though! Thanks
Some ones jumped through it, but it's hard to land in correct angle, body position, etc. Watch the first round when the hill wasn't destroyed. 😉

That guy on 10:29 is fantastic.

Obviously Automatic? What kind of engines? how many cc and horsepower? Single cylinder or ? Water-cooled I assume or air? Very Cool!!
I don't know too much about this sport, it was my first time there, but what I saw was bikes without shift lever, just a little stick in order to engage a gear at the start and not hit it unintentionally when riding, they only use one gear, I don't really know why. Engines are swapped from other bikes, from a GSX-R 1000 engine to 2x KX500 2 stroke engine. I think most of them are water cooled. Really appreciate you like it. The kings of that hill have one thing in common. They hit it hard and fast and don't get out of the gas till they cross the finish line. You know if they stand a chance by the time they are half way.
There is some jumps there that send you crazy, too much throttle can make u feel like a Musk's rocket 👨🚀🚀

I do not understand why the riders don't put a foam brace or pad on the back of their seat to keep them from falling off. Also considering that they're climbing at about a 45° angle, wouldn't it make sense to raise the rear of the bike up to counteract some of that angle, that way, the rider would be able to hold on to the bike much easier at extreme angles!
I have not seen the seat brace, but several bikes do have a higher rear wheel that changes the inclination of the bike, and some have also modified the position of the footpegs backwards, so that they are more inclined forward, which helps on the rise.
Maybe lift the ass end, but no brace to keep u from falling off, or more more like bailing off, you gotta get away from the bike with the quickness

It truly is impossible this year...actually kind of got tired watching the fails and moved on.

Those long bikes don't have any suspension thats why they can't get up the hill!
As far as i have seen, all bikes on de video have suspension.
And even if there are some bikes that do not have suspension, it must have a reason.
All these bikes are costum made, and i assume that they will build everything the right way to get as high up the mountain as possible.
There are so expensive looking bikes, some of them need to wear very good suspensions 🤔

The main problem with the video is that the video is showing somehow a distorted picture of the steepness of this mountain.
It's far more steeper than you think.

I'm not sure about this, and the matter is to go up and cross the line faster than everybody. You can't go faster with a normal bike and tires like these monsters! ⛰️🚜💨

I'm not a bike guy, I build extremely innovative race cars & it seems to me that somebody needs to reinvent the hill climb bike instead of everybody building a small variation of the same thing & getting the same results. Engine & drive wheel at the front with rear steering would claw it's way up a pine tree without rearing up, over balancing, losing steering & spitting you off the back. You'd have to experiment with the engineering & learn to ride it.
I'm lovin 'it! It was my first time and I was amazed how everyone invented their own solution to the same engineering problem, with small changes but all following the same line. It would be great to innovate and create such a bike, but it would lose the thrill of the competition and everyone would summit so easy 😂😂
Guess they need front wheel drive tractor 🚜 pulls too? Nah, i say perfect the machines that they have already. Definitely some tweaking mods, would help tremendously
The front wheel has zero weight on it during the climb. That's obvious. What's also obvious is your lack of understanding.

Well, it won't do any good.
Because the bikes trail riders use are very light motorcycle, that can be manouvered using you own strenght and balance.
The bikes that are used here have a weight over more than 400 pounds, so you really have to use the power of the bike to get as high as possible.
A trail bike won't even reach a quarter distance on the mountain due it's lack of power and speed.

All of these guys are serious riders, for sure a lot of them would had train trials, but the climb. It seems just a way up highway, but it is a really steep gravel climb, plenty of rocks. 😬😬
