The 9 Nation Guitar Rig Challenge [All Your Gear From One Country?]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 тра 2024
- Welcome to the show! ’Tis once again a day for slightly random challenges. In this episode, the slightly random factor is Country Of Origin. Each of us selects one country from a possible nine - excluding the USA, UK and Australia - whereupon we are required to put together a rig hailing from that nation.
Four pedals, one guitar, one amp. There is a whole convoluted system of point scoring that’s too boring to explain here, but you get the idea: make a rig from the country of… That’s countrywang!
If you haven’t turned off already to go and watch something more beneficial to your life and everyone around you... please enjoy the show!

I love how this show is slowly turning into top gear for guitar.
😂❤
It certainly is. I just hope the boys have reliable caterers…
But neither Dan nor Mick are ~∆π√€π$ 😊
I have allways discribed as top gear of guitar gear! So good
😂😂😂
I'd like to see this challenge continued with the remaining countries - and the scores carried over!
1:03:00 for Dan to win back some points: Audio Kitchen must have at least 2 Michelin stars (from France)
I was gonna say the same thing!
best comment, mate
🤣
Genius!!!
" the bitoun fuzz" is the signature pedal of Julien Bitoun ! A great french guitarist !
yes! it doesnt mean anything in French, that made me laugh
It looks like a Leibniz Butterkeks, especially with that broken edge 😄
"Bonsoiiiir"
That was fun! You should do the rest of the countries in more episodes.
Should've gone for those French guitars made by Gibson, y'know, Les Pauls 😉
Tres Bon Scott. It's one of those situations where because they haven't got everything from everywhere whoever picked France was probably going to lose. Dansan Guitars, based in Lorient, craft some awesome and rather expensive instruments. I'm sure there are other French luthiers but that's the one I'm familiar with, mainly because I've seen one of their 'Red Special' replicas. Stunning piece of work.
That was beautiful.
Here’s some extra points for Dan, via tenuous connections to France: the guitar sounded very NICE. And the other items he chose fit very well on the pedalboard-o (Bordeaux). Also, that fuzz sounded in-Seine!
Haha! Well played!
Awesome episode! Would love to see Canada - Godin guitar, Revv/Traynor amp, Solid Gold FX, Diamond, Union Tube and Transistor, Empress... could be a killer combo!
A nice lgx into a vintage bassmate with diamond pedals... sounds like some maple sweet tone.
Honestly, Mick's core amp tone might be my favourite ever pure amp tone I have ever heard!
As a Canadian, I'm thinking Canada would be quite easy to put a killer rig together.....lots of awesome pedals, several amp builders (Traynor and revv to name a couple). The actual guitar might be the difficult part, I know there are many builders, but availability in the UK????? Godin maybe?
Canadian guitar: Lado, Godin, Sorokin, Frank Bros, Cithara
Canadian amps: Revv, Wizard, Traynor
I'm Canadian, so it would've been cool to see what you guys came up with had you picked Canada. But, I'm really glad to see Germany and France, since neither get a lot of recognition in the guitar world. Maybe we need a part 2! 😆
Stoked on the Collision pedal. It's my main on my board. Not just for heavy shoegaze stuff.
Love it. Loved this video! Enjoying the challenges all the way.
Jack on TPS! Yeah!! Monster player, super inventive and expressive, phenomenal interviewer and extraordinary ears.
Example of a modern player who understand what's great about vintage and what's great about modern stuff.
Miss him already at Peach Guitars channel...
Please say there is going to be a Jack Griffiths episode in the pipeline @thatpedalshow
I love the challenge videos and how much of your humour and enjoyment they bring out, looking forward to this one 😂
Couldn't agree more. The combination of reminiscing on some of the less used but much cherished gear and being forced out of the comfort zone seem to always lead to great reactions. Bravo.
I was about to comment on how great that Black Hole Symmetry pedal sounded until the Kaleidoscope was clicked on. Wow it's on the list
Guys, you don't often jam (which keeps it special) but when you do- wow! Dan and Mick, this is the best jam in quite some time! Love it!
+1
This episode isn't just another game! It showcases some seriously classy pedals, especially the Utopia and the tube overdrive. And your take on a classic rock jam was spot-on, almost a parody of my (teenager circa 1970) generation's bedroom fumblings, with as much distortion and reverb and echo as we could get away with (&/or afford).
And a cameo by Jack too. He is SUCH a player!! Taste.
Canada: Godin or Sorokin guitars/ Revv or Traynor amps/ Union Tube & Transistor, Empress, SolidGold FX, Diamond, MJM, Fairfield effects, for the win!!
9:15 “Look at this thing!” made me laugh out loud. Dan’s enthusiasm is another level
Brilliant !! I love that things we haven't seen/heard before got a chance to play. And love the last jam!
I really enjoy watching your approach to dialing in amps and pedals. I’ve learned so much, including patience! I think we sometimes give up on things too soon and you’ve taught me not to do that. Love this show!
Love the shows, Keep up the great work. TPS has become a friend that takes the drudgery out of the daily routine. ...and I've learned how to be a better guitarist ! Thank you TPS team !!!!
TPS & Jack Griffith collaboration on video, whether it be pedal board support for Jack’s new ventures or literally anything to be honest, would be simply fantastic viewing. Fingers crossed it’s already in the pipeline given Jacks drop in! 🙏
Love these challenges. So many great sounds from both rigs!
Love love loved hearing you guys jam at the end. You both really some to understand how the other plays, after so many years of hearing each other play and playing together. Jamming together should be a regular thing on the show, in my opinion
Another great show gents, thank you 🙏 Loved the jam at the end ☺
I’m a long time fan of the show and this is definitely one of my favorites! I think it’s great when you get out of your comfort zone. Please do more shows like this. 🤘🏻🔥
13:37 yep 😊 at that time we did Puretone (our go on a Plexi), Duotone (our go on a JCM800 plus better Clean channel and the TriAmp MKII)
I believe the best valve amps Hughes&kettner ever did…😊
Greetings, Thomas Blug
Den Puretone nutze ich seit Jahren mit ´nem Tubeman MK1 in front. Well done :)
Ist ja auch ne gute Kombination ;-)
Thomas! Big love mate! X
@@ThatPedalShowvisiting you is on my wishlist for next year 😊 !
This was a really cool challenge! You should keep picking countries and go through all of them!
That French fuzz was absolutely stunning! 😍
I have visited France, fuzz everywhere.
@Grungebob_Squaredance I prefer a lil Fuzz! Way better than those Big Muffs! I have to vacation there one day 😏
Gotta love the Huber! Looks as good as it sounds 🔥🔥🔥
Love both fuzz pedals!
I have one and it’s absolutely fantastic - it’s a super fuzz with fuzz face replacing the front end. In true anasounds style it’s full of trimmers so you can tweak it just how you want it.
Would love to see a similar challenge where all six elements must be from different countries, and you get points for the maximum distance between each country capitals. A kind of united nations challenge! Bonus points for using more obscure countries.
Great idea! Love this!
But how are you gonna get the US to fund a third of it?
I LOVED the Kaleidoskope. Fantastic character reverb
you guys are the best! thanks for always helping me learn more and more!
Also, the ending jam sounded spectacular 🙌. All my LOVE!!!
Love the challenge shows! Keep them coming.
Thanks for a great show as always. I have a suggestion for a future special issue: "fuzz in context" - three fuzz circuits, three different guitars (with different types of pickups) and three different amps (or four of each). To explore (in depth😊) how fuzzes react in different contexts. That would be so interesting to watch!
Love this idea. I always watch someone on YT who’s good with fuzzes, like Sam Vilo, and then wonder why I can never get a decent sound out of one. Generally find that my fave sound out of a fuzz is with the fuzz setting on minimum and guitar vol dialled back a bit, to get a great strat bridge pickup clean tone. Either that or sticking an overdrive after the fuzz to smooth it out.
The minute France came up, I knew there was going to be a Black Hole Symmetry involved. Absolutely one of my favourite pedals ever made, and no disappointment here.
❤❤❤
That Black Hole Symmetry pedal is Shoegaze in a box. Hot DAMN!!!
Bitoun fuzz is the signature pedal of Julien Bitoun who is a French guitarist/ journalist A good friend of the CEO of Anasound.
Bravo Dan & Mick !!! Fantastic tone today !!! the last 2 pedals were epic !!
Bitoun is the surname of Julien, known in France for entertaining, sharing, demonstrating, writing, etc .... and above all playing guitars and other related stuffs .... And it'z his Fuzz !!
A great episode !!
When mick gets the delay in there that’s a great Frampton kinda tone I FULLY adore.
Incredible! You guys are awesome!
8:45 Omg, the chills I have just seeing behind the scenes at all the lovely gear! Literally a tear in my eye! I wish I could just experience all the fun gear and tones! So much love put into it all. Awesome! Envious of their brilliant situation in life. Glad someone gets to experience this awesomeness!
Nailed another boys. Love these. Have a good weekend. Im having a great one. I almost had to sell my Collings acoustic to pay for insane homeowners insurance price increases in New Orleans but the mother in law saved the day!! I will spend the weekend playing the Collings and smelling it.
Great show as always gentlemen. Definitely inspired to play today!!!
This was great! I enjoyed seeing Jack pop in. He’s a hell of a player, and I hope we’ll see more of him on the show.
He needs to have his own entire episode, and as soon as possible.
Love the guest appearance of Jack. Such a rippin’ guitar player and all around nice guy!
Lads o lads o lads. Been waiting to hear that H&K for what, 7 years?? Awesome. How about a show on sleeper gear you forgot you had? Oh, and the Wallace too please.
Thanks for this...I've been wondering what that head was.
Another great job well done. Solid tones as usual.
This was great definitely need more of these.
UK only rig episode would be interesting if you both visited different guitar, amp and pedal manufacturers for a rig each. Plus a visit to Crimsons Dorset guitar museum.
Fun, as per usual!
And the line at the very end...
Great to see some love for Vahlbruch pedals.. I own the Jewel Drive. Insane pedal. So so good 👌
😂 only up to the explanation of the scoring system and am loving it
… also, I want to need to have a personal pedal database 🤓🤓
Awesome episode! My god, the kaleidoscope! Amazing
Haven’t watched to the end yet but I think I can help Dan out … it’s an Audio Kitchen amplifier … the French for “kitchen” is “cuisine” … which also means “food” … and we all know the French are renowned for their food!
And so, as a wise Frenchman once said, “if music be the food of love, play your Grand Choppier” … or something like that …
Finally got a chance to watch the back half of the show, work keeps getting in theway of the important thing in life 😂 really liked the jam at the end , like an old guitar Paradiso episode 👍
Great as always. Love you guys.
Kia ora from NZ. Once again, we were ultimately left off the map 😆
You were in the hat!
@@ThatPedalShow We'll take it :)
33:00 here you go Dan. No storm troopers have ever been drunk, cos every time they take a shot, they miss
That Kaleidoscope sounds lovely and unreal at the same time, great pedal!
Dan “what’s next to the growl control”.. answer should of been “A G string” 🤣🤣 sorry couldn’t resist that onr
If I was in that challenge, being from Canada, I'd have :
Guitar : Godin Stadium Pro
Amp : Traynor YCV4050
Pedals : Revv Tilt overdrive, SolidgoldFX Imperial, Empress Echosystem, Diamond Tremolo (or maybe something from Kingsley .. from UK but lives in Canada, does that count? 🙃)
I know, I might not have draw Canada from the hat.. it's a best case scenario 😅
Genius concept!
Lotsa fun! As a Kiwi I figured, okay . . . L.R. Guitars: Laurie Williams makes lovely one-off electrics and acoustics using Kauri and other indigenous NZ woods. Amp - Rockit launched in 1977, I had a combo with 15" speaker, very Mesa Boogiesh. Pedals: without a doubt Paul Crowther's Hot Cake Distortion - used one since the mid 70's. Red Witch Empress Chorus - bought one a few years back. Flux Effects Slipstream Delay & Liquid Ambience for delay & reverb (never tried 'em but look pretty good!). Cheers! 😀
What a cracking romp these challenge episodes are!
…..if only you lads had a bit more kit to choose from. 🤭
Not only was this funny and fun - but man, what great guitars and amps here today! I mean it's always the case, but it was good to hear the 2 of these with those guitars!
Canada is pretty easy:
Electric Guitar: Godin Session
Acoustic Guitar: Seagull Performer Acoustic/electric
Amp: Traynor YCV
Effects Pedals:
Diamond J Drive Mk3
Diamond Comp Jr
Diamond Memory Lane Jr
Pedalboard: Temple Audio
Cables: Revelation
great fun video & some supa sounds, both !!! - the Bitoiun Fuzz was developed by Alex for & with my friend Julien Bitoun - (Julien put out the 1st demo of it around 6 years ago on his youtube channel)
Love the premise of this challenge. I'd love to see it employed elsewhere as well. For instance any of those large gathering events at large stores, like Thomann or Sweetwater or even in the hypothetical of Reverb. It's such a fun idea.
Great as usual... magical sounds and no glossing over what doesn't work. Please run a contest to raid those cabinets and include airfare!!...
Dan's board was better imho, but nothing can beat that Hughes & Kettner amp sound! And that Collision Devices Black Hole Symmetry.... wow!
Cheers guys, that worked out rather well, fun and interesting boards both. However, as soon as Mick played the Krautster with the Puretone there was only one winner in my mind, hair raising ton für Tage.
Really fun show guys! Coincidence that the other day I just watched Mick’s Vibe video where Dan was out sick. The H&K sounded glorious and I was just thinking this amp should make some more appearances! Anyways happy weekend lads
Loved this episode! We need part 2...and 3...and 4. And then we need to add more countries :)
I remember lusting after the Puretone when it first came out in the guitar magazines. Those ads were incredibly beautiful.
Epic fun jam. Fuzz with Dan had an edge. However, the rock arena king sound was Mick's rig. Keep rocking.
9:35 "Straight to the pool room". A lovely reference Dan, to the classic Aussie film 'The Castle'. If Mick thinks he's going to win this challenge then "Tell 'im he's dreamin'!"
it's way better then The Dish! hahaha
@@christopher-miles I enjoyed The Dish much better when I watched it a second time. It's a grower.
Dan could have employed “What do you call that, Darl?” when he first heard the H&K, too.😊
Epic tones and vibes in that jam.
Wonderful concept! How about continuing this concept and go through all the other countries.
1:38 There's that bloody Halibut again 🤣
I think that Bitoun Fuzz is supposed to be a LU cookie with a bite out of the corner? All great stuff. The playing was stellar in this episode. Bless you both!!!
There really was an interesting mirroring going on there with the two boards. TPS lives in a room full of mirrors (…& pedals, & amps, & guitars……)
I have to admit...I thought the premise for the show was going to be lame. I was pleasantly surprised. The premise challenged you guys to get out of your usual flow, dig into your fun pile of gear, and use some things that we wouldn't usually get to hear. Mahalo!
Just wow. The Huber and H&K together is absolutely fabulous.
Epic stuff guys
verry glad, I got the 2 valbruch-pedals :-)
Danish pedals:
Have you seen that T-rex have released a Binson Echorec... The real deal! Expensive but... Wauw!
Mick: Bon champs mon ami😊. Dan: Looks at watch and answers, "Ten to twelve." 😂🤣
And Girault Guitars, great stuff
Noel Gallagher must be trilled to become a meme! Hahaha gets me laughing every time.
❤❤❤❤ I've got the Bitoun Fuzz and the Utopia! Anasounds forever ❤❤❤Thanks 🎉
This is such a fun concept!
Hughes and Kettner, who would have thought. Horrible design but premium sound. Great show. The Kernom always amazes me. Edit: Black Hole Symmetry - Holy macaroni!
you guys need a vigier guitar, great french axe
Big fan of the jamage at the end there fellas. More please!
Back from a glorious week in Devon. Caught up with last week. It’s now sleeping time. Will pick up on the morrow.
You know Canada is going to do well!! REVV, Empress amongst so many others. Japan…. Every Boss pedal ever!! Matsumoko factory. Germany… Engl, Diezel, Hughes & Kettner etc.
Wow this would be hard.
Godin from Quebec Canada are by far the best guitars from these countries IMO. Rev and Empress pedals are also top-shelf vs any on the market. Same with Rev amps.
Union t&t, diamond, gup tech, I know of a couple killer pedal makers in Ottawa, and the barometer collaboration of mercury fuzz and weatherman I have on my board is Steller.
Canuckistan woulda slayed this
