Soon school children will be learning that Native Americans cheerfully walked the "Trail of Tears" and they all wanted to live on reservations, right? They weren't forced right?
Given what they're being taught about black people, they'll probably be told Native Americans were brutal savages that had to be put down by the good white people for the safety of all. We've gone past sugar coating to full on Nazi propaganda at this point. No more, "and we all sat around the table having turkey and corn on the cob." That's what they taught in school a good 30 years ago.
The Native Americans actually had black slaves too and the natives use to beat rape murder and feed the slaves they owned and caught to dogs they also walked the trail of tears so the so called native Americans are just as guilty as white people are they’ll just never admit it
In high school I had a teacher who had the worst uninformed opinions ever. He straight up tried to justify the poor condition on reservations on the basis that "well they have casinos that make money" 😂 🤦♂️
Pretty sure it was our parents that were complaining about participation trophies. I remember being a thing when I was in fourth or fifth grade and I'm forty three.
Notice that the far right stopped talking about college kids wanting "safe spaces" 2 or 3 years ago? Now they want safe spaces everywhere for themselves and their children. Don't tell Johnny about any American history that could trigger him.
That "bad feeling" those children felt is called having empathy for others. I felt bad for the civilians killed in Hiroshima. It was my empathy for them.
I feel bad for all (or at least most) of the ordinary people who end up dieing in wars fought for their leaders ridicolous ambitions. But I don't get why some fellow lefties, act like bombing Japan with nukes was a "bad" thing. It definitely saved more american/allied lives, and almost certainly saved more Japanese lives, than a prolonged ground war or continuous convential bombing (and still the inevitable ground war after)... With all the critisms of our government and conflicts theyve gotten us involved in, that we would probably agree on - the crap Japan and Germany were doing are on a whole different level, and nuking them was best option... This was also before nuclear proliferation, and in World War with so many atrocities done by the axis - it makes the stuff in Ukraine look look silly game (it's not! But in comparison it is) You know how many of us don't give a crap about the capital raiding trumptards getting prison sentences for their ridiculous BS? The vast majority of them were "brainwashed" in some of shape or form to follow their dear leaders ambitions. I still feel bad for them, most of them I don't think really knew what they were doing, just following deer leader, but they did what they did...
They really are trying to chip away at empathy. Aside from the “crt” the magas claim is going on in schools, they’re also trying to do away with SEL (social/emotional learning). It’s wild.
@mbburry4759 The bombs didn’t just kill people, they’ve had long lasting, devastating consequences for decades after mostly because of the chemicals in the bombs. I see what you mean with your “kill some to save more lives” thing, but there were/are far more consequences than just people dying when the bombs were dropped.
DeSantis should volunteer and show all the new skills he can learn while getting worked to exhaustion everyday, food and sleep deprived, and punished corporally by the people owning him as property (which he'd of course agree to). Let's see his sigma grindset

I attended school in the 70's I can not remember any teacher saying Slavery was a "good thing" for the Slaves, I can remember learning about the Slave ships and how the Slaves were packed in(it would result in heavy fines if Cattle were transported like that).
The same thing happen to me in the 7th grade, my teacher said that slaves didnot want to be set free. I say some bad words and in 70th you didn't get suspended, you got the Board of Education.😖

They are trying to protect children from feeling bad about slavery, but these are the same people who will tell children that Jesus was tortured and died for thier sins, to make them feel bad about that.
As a black person, I've never run into another black person who wanted white people to "feel bad" about slavery or American history. We just wanted an acknowledgement that white people had a massive head start due to the fact that their skin wasn't dark. It's not about what your ancestors did or didn't get but about the benefits that everyone else DEFINITELY didn't get. Apparently that's too much to ask for.
These people can’t see past their own noses nonetheless conceive how they could have had more than others due to a system built on exclusion based on wealth, skin color and religion. They can only handle one of those concepts at a time.
Idk I've met some younger black guys that act like they are the only victims in the world. It gets boring. I'm Hispanic and come from a family of lower social economic standing and I deal with severe mental illness that has resulted in me being actually discriminated against because people are scared of me or don't trust me. Doesn't seem to matter that I'm an army combat veteran. Mentally ill people are the most repressed group in history. They burned schizophrenic people in medieval times because they thought they were possessed .
@@theinvisiblewoman5709 It's the "system built on exclusion" that really throws them because they really want to believe that the civil rights movement somehow destroyed that system back in the 1960s and black people have just been whining about nothing since then. If we compare that exclusionist system to a house infested with vermin, the civil rights movement was like the exterminator coming over, saying "Oh yeah you got bugs bad" and then spraying the front of the house and maybe the foyer and then leaving. Then when you call back to say you've still got pests, they're like "Oh my God, why can't you handle this yourself? My house hasn't had this problem in years! Maybe you're just inherently messier people." And then he goes home and tells his family all about the whining, messy people he had to deal with again today. The people who want everything done for them when we've been giving them mouse traps and Combat and Raid and glue traps and everything except for a proper extermination. People like Desantis would tell black people that they should've learned how to make and administer those pesticides during that 400 years of free education and play time they were nice enough to provide for us. 🙄
@@joshuaortiz2031 Yeah key word "younger". Young people always act like the world is victimizing them overall because they lack perspective and life experience. As someone whose parents are educators of special needs children, I can definitely appreciate your perspective here but I would urge you to consider the perspective of people whose ancestors did not choose to come here like yours did. It's a bit different when your history and pride are intentionally destroyed by people who treated you no different than a chair or livestock. The things you mentioned happening to mentally ill people in the past often happened to black men, women and children. The perpetrators of those crimes are people that this country honors and literally builds statues of. You could forgive a young black person for thinking that this country hates their very existence.
I do feel bad when I hear about some horrible things that my ancestors have done in the past. It doesn't mean that I should have a law passed to protect my feelings and rewrite history. The racism in the USA is beyond disgusting.

I wonder if it teaches about the Chinese RR workers Ron desantis is like the cool uncle that after all the adults are done blaming everything desantis comes over and tells you they are no better. Then the schools can be segregated again.

The save the kids crowd "saving the kids" by teaching them slavery is good. Teaching them child marriage is fine if you are a conservative christian like Matt Walsh or Josh duggar. I depends on the angle it's taught at if the part of slavery you teach the most about is how the white man promised oat off all slaves but never did and from there it never got right for black ppl what do you think might happen Fter school between the poor black kids and maybe some white kid that has nicer things or lives in a better part of town? Teachers should not be allowed to push a political agenda through teaching. And should not teach in a way that could cause one group of kids to feel like another group owes then But it sounds like the way it's being taught is white privilege is a political stance that the left stands on, there fireis should not be taught in public schools. That can have maybe an open discussion maybe on the subject but if it starts to cause a disturbance then it should be shut down. That would be like teaching about the hunter Biden LAP TOP in school, or teaching Q ANON handbook
Tbh they barely taught about black American history when I was in primary school. I learned a lot of it on my own and to say our history is inspiring and spectacular and awesome is truly an understatement. It's a feature of Conservative ideology. The only consistent value anywhere on the spectrum is a superior/inferior dichotomy and you can only feel empathy for anyone you hold to an equal value of you. Incidentally, you also need to be able to feel empathy to feel love of any kind.
It's a common misconception. Conservatives have empathy for people past, present and future just as leftists subscribe to the notions of responsibility and duty. The difference is that conservatives (and to a lesser extent liberals) subscribe to hierarchical systems that place greater or lesser value on people whereas leftists do not. Conservatives empathize with Jefferson because of his place in the hierarchies just like they empathize with British lords and kings over the peasants. There are many movies and stories that drive conservatives WILD with empathy and the like where nobles and kings are unjustly ousted...by their own people. As a conservative about the Romanovs and you'll see plenty of empathy for the murdered royal family, plenty of hatred/animosity for the movement that saw fit to murder them, and zero consideration for WHY they were murdered or all of the tens of thousands of people THEY had murdered and many more imprisoned. Conservatives are VERY empathetic. They're also VERY selective on who they empathize with. (Again, liberals are that way to a lesser degree. They're still capitalists in the end, and they'll side with fascists to protect capitalism like good capitalists.) "Thoughts and prayers" to everyone else.
The only people who feel profoundly guilty about the US' history if Slavery, are people who wish slavery hadn't ended and want it to come back. They know these desires are reprehensible, hence the guilt, so they want to tear down anything that would cause them to confront their own horribleness.
To be clear, the point of the law is to make sure WHITE children don't feel bad. There's never any talk of ideas that might make black and brown kids feel bad... Also, legislating how people FEEL? Seriously, that's not a thing!
you should never feel bad for who you are, what race you are, what gender you are. History sucks but you arent apart of that history. blacks enslaved, whites enslaved, asians enslaved.

It's been happening for years. I remember my kids going from a class of 15 to a class of 25 because of budget cuts, and that was 10 years ago. And I'm sure even before that they were sabotaging the classroom. Thankfully I supplemented my kids' education at home, but not all kids have that. It's maddening.
Tulsa, Oklahoma is a perfect example of how the freed slaves were able to put their educations to great use... as long as you don't teach what happened next. Getting into some pedantic argument about whether or not a few slaves *technically* got some benefit out of their slavery is just distracting from the point. Slavery isn't wrong because it prevents the slaves from becoming French chefs. It's wrong because it's wrong to *own people.* Nobody who bought a slave thought, "How can I invest in this person's future before I set them free?" They were property and any training or education they got was purely for the benefit of their owner. If that became a benefit to the slave later on, the credit goes to the people who fought to free them, not to the owners. It says so much that seeing this as a good thing, or even a silver lining, requires you to fundamentally misunderstand the institution of slavery. That misunderstanding is the foundation that white supremacist want children to be indoctrinated into, and now it's been signed into law in Florida.

This never stops. The argument is bogus, so next we as Africans will be told to include the history of slavery because our ancestors enslaved and sold our own people into slavery? We know this history and we don’t whitewash it by blaming the “white man”, (except for the brainwashed amongst us), and we certainly don’t feel guilty for the crimes against humanity that our forefathers committed against our own people by brutally enslaving both our people and other neighboring tribes. This generation did not enslave or sell our own native people into slavery.

There is a specific reason why they dont want to teach the truth. Telling kids that slavery was beneficial to the enslaved can only make them think that enslavement of Black people is ok. Let’s see what happens when someone gets the bright idea to actually try enslaving people again. All I can say is, there werent as many guns flowing through society as there were back in the day. "What lie must they now tell themselves?" I'm Floridian. They don't. To have any appreciation of one's hypocrisy it requires the ability to internalize personal accountability and shame. This is an ability they do not possess, nor wish to nurture. One major topic that none of the media and Floridians regarding this issue aren't discussing, is talking about how this decision will affect Florida high school grads (recruiting at top US or world universities) and Florida college grads (when applying to top US or world companies, especially jobs related to historical events or human resources). Universities and first-rate companies will choose the people who have the best education (because of their prestige), so, Florida students are not going to be chosen in favor of students from other states or other countries with better academic preparation (history classes that don't revise human history making it non-factual). Making some Floridians miss potential $$$ in comparison to others graduates from the US and from a cross the world.

I was horrified learning of the atrocities white "masters" inflicted As a white kid in my mind I justified it as I knew my ancestors never owned slaves, they were poor immigrants here in late 1700s But I had empathy As I am appalled at how our Government treats indigenous people As I had empathy for Japanese who died from bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. You can teach all these horrendous things as lesson to help us be better humans Just as we need to teach climate Crisis because of the damage we are doing to other species We all have a right to be here 😊
How well this goes over in Florida will tell me alot about the generation of kids currently in our school systems. They should be the 1st group saying get this BS outta here.
that's not how education works though, they will have no other common source of information on American history and the burden is not on the children to rebel against misteachings of adults who can use every trick, lie, and form of abuse to solidify their 2024 Floridian version of history
Perhaps the Governor would like to volunteer himself for a 'history lesson' and receive 20 lashes. We'd find out how awesome he'd think it was after that.
When we learned about slavery in school, none of us felt directly responsible. We all thought that's f***ed up. We need to acknowledge transgressions of the past, otherwise how do we learn from it?
Yes they are I’m a keep it real racist Jim Crow racist be on TV not right God has the final say. Be careful what you do that’s watching you that’s watching them.
One of the silliest, but actually sad things is that you can't use the word "critical" anymore because people will think you're talking about Critical Race Theory. "Critical Thinking" is maybe the most important skill learned in school. Of course, FL doesn't want children taught HOW to think but WHAT to think.
Here in Australia, I've learnt all about the colonial history of Australia in regards but also the oppression and atrocities perpetrated upon the Indigenous people. I've also learnt about the inequalities in contemporary Australia because of systemic issues borne out of that history. And I've also celebrated the successes of Indigenous people despite it. YET I have never once felt guilty or anxious or to blame for it. Teaching that history is not about those things. If you think that history classes are targeting you personally, I think there's something else there that needs to be unpacked and reflected upon. But the surefire way of not feeling guilty or anxious about problematic history especially atrocity in your history is to deal with it openly, objectively and fairly. If you understand that the sins of the past have or are being remedied, then what is there to feel personally targeted about? An overall, that national historical trauma becomes increasingly healed, which improves life in your country for everyone.
America will never begin to grasp that concept. This nation is lost. It was lost the first time a native American was killed in the name of manifest destiny... it was lost when the first african boarded the bottom of the first slave ship. This country has sealed its own fate and they refuse to make it right, further digging a giant hole closer and closer to hell, dragging us all down with it
the difference is, when i as a white person feel bad about slavery, it’s more similar to empathy than guilt. i think children don’t have an ability to differentiate between their emotions, so they tell their parents that they “feel bad”, and their parents assume it’s guilt, imo.
Yes, but isnt it interesting that no one who wants to change how history is taught had the same concern for nonwhite people having to bear the discomfort of actually hearing truths about how their ancestors were treated?? The hypocrisy among certain groups knows no bounds.

With all the critisms of our government and conflicts theyve gotten us involved in, that we would probably agree on - the crap Japan and Germany were doing are on a whole different level, and nuking them was best option...

Mustn't criticise the sociopaths!
These people can’t see past their own noses nonetheless conceive how they could have had more than others due to a system built on exclusion based on wealth, skin color and religion. They can only handle one of those concepts at a time.
Idk I've met some younger black guys that act like they are the only victims in the world. It gets boring. @@theinvisiblewoman5709 It's the "system built on exclusion" that really throws them because they really want to believe that the civil rights movement somehow destroyed that system back in the 1960s and black people have just been whining about nothing since then. Then when you call back to say you've still got pests, they're like "Oh my God, why can't you handle this yourself? My house hasn't had this problem in years! That can have maybe an open discussion maybe on the subject but if it starts to cause a disturbance then it should be shut down. That would be like teaching about the hunter Biden LAP TOP in school, or teaching Q ANON handbook

It's just called empathy, it's amazing how conservatives have no empathy for past people. They were still people who suffered.
Or respect for much of anything: others not just like them, the labor of others, the teachings of their precious Jesus, decency, honesty, integrity, our earth.
It's a feature of Conservative ideology. The only consistent value anywhere on the spectrum is a superior/inferior dichotomy and you can only feel empathy for anyone you hold to an equal value of you. Incidentally, you also need to be able to feel empathy to feel love of any kind.
The problem is..the lowest class of people in the South were white
So low slaves looked down on them
Its better to be hated for who you are, than be loved for who you aren't. Think on that a while.

Mental illness is real even the governor of Florida suffers from it. 😢
Perfectly stated!
