I LOVE this video!! THE PERFECT setup!!! I'm SO SORRY you had to sell...! 8 years later...I STILL MISS your content!! MERRY CHRISTMAS & have a Safe, Happy & Prosperous 2022!!
Best small system that I have seen on youtube so far. Great job! I want to build a smaller system than this at some point in the future. Thank you for sharing this with us. John
Hi there, I must have watched this video 10 times. im currently building a system inspired by yours with 2 tanks to begin. im trying to work out how you regulate the water level in the k1 barrels. Any insight you may share would be great! thanks again for an awesome build and share!
& to think some of us thought you were done with it :D ;) Looks like the granddaddy of what we will have up & running soon.. Any chance of you posting a link to info or manufacture of the barrel filter ? Cheers sir.. Rob..
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else trying to find out aquaponics courses try Tarbetti Amazing Aquaponics Tutor (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my colleague got amazing results with it.
interesting points ,if anyone else is searching for aquaponics book try Fast Track Grower (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got great success with it.
@@mdnurulamin7477 hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to discover aquaponics courses try Tarbetti Amazing Aquaponics Tutor (just google it ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my colleague got great results with it.
Wow! crazy impressed is an understatement! "hats off" , Steve I hope you see the writing on the wall, you have a major added value to your endeavor with your Tilapia farming and system, ie,, you could easily be a paid consultant or charge a fee in helping to design systems for people that are interested with fish farming. I couldn't help but notice while reading the comments, how much interest and enthusiasm. Best of luck!
This is super cool, I love it! I was wondering how you were coming along with your room...I'm excited and I DIDN'T spill anything on my keyboard! Thanks for the warning! :-)
Great site/ videos. I have 2 questions 1. What is k-1 and where do you get it. 2. Where can I get more info on the drum filters you have in the system? Thanks for thr great info.
Congrats on your excellent system! Hated to see you taking some tilapia out before you had to. Great RDF, saves you a lot of work and frees you up to do other things. One thing that has been troubling me, and do not know if anybody has any thoughts on this, is the fact that pumps might actually break apart the fish poop to sizes even smaller than the mesh size of your RDF. Have you thought of moving your fish tank water to the RDF with airlifts......they do not have the turbulence of the pump, and might not disintegrate the poop. Plus will areate you water.....Would these air lifters be less dependable than a regular pump? Would they need your constant attention? food for thought.....Again, congrats. This is by far the best system I've seen on UA-cam.
wow I am very impressed .Looks real neat and organized . I love the video. thanks for sharing .just one question .....would I be able to grow trout or perch in this type of system?
Think you could show a diagram of the flow? I like the concept but cant visualize the entire loop. I am not going to link 6+ together but two or three with one as the sump. If you can share the idea, my self and many others would certainly appreciate it. Your website is coming along great too. That would be the perfect place to host a diagram. Thanks, Az
Great job, with all your "free" time hope you might consider writing up a online manual for us less talented folks. You could probably make another $5 K a year, or more, with that. (-; You have the most logical system on UA-cam!
When building the biofilters, where is the outflow into the tank. it looks like it is in the bottom but how then do you maintain the water height? is there a pipe in the barrel keeping the height? if so doesnt the bioballs cause it to get blocked and wouldnt it be better to have it so it drains from the bottom?
This is absolutely incredible! I am really jealous, and very intrigued as I continue to plan my own system. Others have asked, but I'll ask again. Can you provide a few technical specs, like the cost and sourcing of the drum filters? Also I think I asked a year or so ago, have you ever looked into the operating costs of the setup? You said your water bill was cut by 2/3, but can you share the actual cost? I'm an engineer for a living, and love to look at the details like that. And of course I'd love to know, again in the planning on my own system. Also, do you have an electricity backup system? Seems you are pretty reliant upon electricity to keep the whole thing running, and I believe you are up north somewhere where ice or storms could take out the power for a couple days. Feel free to send me a PM if you have time. I'd love to know more!
Awesome. truly awesome. A word of warning to everyone, those barrels will blow apart at a fairly low pressure. I had one blow up on me at less than 10psi.
Roughly how big is this room? 12x20' or so? I'm planning to build a room similar to this in my barn once I get it up, a room dedicated to fish rearing like this. This setup is just so impressive.
Beautiful system but I was wondering where those the bottom of the tanks drain to... do they also go through the filter because it seems like most of the poop drops to the bottom
Hey Steve, I've been a You Tube voyeur for years, usually jump from one interest to another. I've sat here and watched 1-16, actually found 16 first then had to check you vids. Watched each "DIY Small Scale Aquaculture" from start to finish. I've never done that. I subscribed for the first time. and now it's 2am and should get some sleep Not only did I find your transition from 4 yrs ago amazing but you talk it pretty well too. The first thing I noticed was you plumbing. Is that your trade? I realize it's been awhile since you have posted on this, I just wanted to let you know personally I've enjoyed your hard work Steve
Tom McCosh you have it going on............would love love love to see first hand I am a little slow so I have to really touch to understand.....all your work is inspiring me big time.
Great setup. Any updates how the system works now 2,5 years later? How have the drumfilters worked out for you? I hear people telling me the koi drumfilters wont keep up with aquaculture and just break. Im thinking of buying a KC-30 thats what you have there right? hows the quality? would you recommend them or should i look for something else?
Hi Steve this setup is great i have the same problem with space as you had and thinking of copying your setup with the barrel on top with k1 in it.... how big bioload can your system handle? Im in sweden so im not sure about gallons and pounds but the barrel is 200 liters (55 gallons) and the ibc tank is 1000 liters (250 gallons) how much K1 media do you have in each barrel? 100 liters (22,5 gallons)? and how much fish can you have in each tank in pounds (kilos)? or the whole system? also are you happy with this setup or do you want to change anything? Thanks Henrik
I've been looking forward to seeing your new room! Great work! Do you sell your fry/fingerlings? I'm down near Cincy and looking to get batches from atleast 3 different breeders by spring...send me a note if you're interested in selling a small batch.
Wow! Big change from your first system. You are evolving nicely! So do you grow anything or is this strictly a aquaculture farm? I too smile when I watch all your work, I am sure it is very rewarding. I have a small aquaponics system and I can only dream of someday having a RDF and system like yours. Need to do something with that 3 acres...thanks for posting.
any reason for moving for Cetus Sieve to drum filter ? I understand that drum filter is maintenance free but did you see any other disadvantages using Cetus Sieve ?
I am inspired by your projects. I was looking for an answer to a question I have seen others ask but could not find a reply. What is the make and model of the RDF filters you are using and where did you buy them? Thanks.
Looks like you have a neat system. I just bought 4 tanks off of Andrew M Meyer for personal use he told me about you and said you are just down the street from me I live in Thornville. I would love to come visit and talk shop.
do you have a backup power supply in case of power failure.... i lost 1000 kgs fish in 25mins once and learnt my lesson quick... i now have a 12 volt backup air pump...
hey how much tilapia i can prodect if i have 10 IBC tank with good filtration ? and how many nursing aquarium i need if i keep producing the year around? wit 10 IBC tank how much squer foot i can plant ? how many fish i can grow in one tank ? thank you from ALGERIA / SWEDEN
not sure what is outside but you could use that drain line to feed a small Aquaponics green house. Seems a shame to waste all that good fish poo ;) Local dinners could do a one stop shop veggies and fish all in one place.
HI...i am a fun of your videos, and i hope to build a system like this one day...on your video you said you were pulling your hair out because it kept malfunctioning, after you figure it out it was due to inconsistent water level....what is the name of the valve you installed to solve the problem?? Thanks..
Those are solenoid operated valves that I found on eBay. About $35 each. Just search solenoid valves and you can choose any configuration that you need. Steve.
2,000 lbs per year / capital Investment + Time = How Many Years before there is profit? Or is it a hobby? Where do you get your water, Water Well? Such a cool project
Sorry there TMB, I don't have hard numbers for you, my marriage depends on it. This started as a hobby but at some point I do expect to harvest a return. I hope by the time I turn 66 which is 4 years away. Right now I use city water but am planning on drilling a well next summer. Another 4K expense.

Wow..worth the wait to see how you would make an awesome setup even better! Nicely done!
Good looking system.. Keep up the good work and keep people excited about Aquaponics and Hydroponics
Wow. You've come along ways. Really good to hear you getting a return finally from your investment.
love your update, anything new in the past months

Yeah, great hear about the sales. I still feel he needs to put in a fast organic veggie production system as well. Aquaponics is calling here!
michael chileshe Right!!? I cringed a little at the thought of all that "Muck" just going down the drain :D

The new looks better, what was the cost of those filters and how many 1000L tanks will each one do max
Extraordinary. What will large scale mean?

This is a fantastic setup! How much does this cost you to run?
10:15 What did you end up figuring? How are the filters doing?
I luv u your system. I hope to walk in your footsteps. Congrats and continued success.
Awesome. truly awesome. A word of warning to everyone, those barrels will blow apart at a fairly low pressure. I had one blow up on me at less than 10psi.
Non radiated fish? No mercury? Looks great!
Did you install the pump by yourself? What about the tanks? How long did it take for you to do that?
I've watched you since you started out your setup, was just wondering if the system was still running?
Roughly how big is this room? 12x20' or so? I'm planning to build a room similar to this in my barn once I get it up, a room dedicated to fish rearing like this. This setup is just so impressive.

the role of light on tilapia tank ?
One day. I hope to have the same. How much was this system in total? Roughly?

I understand that drum filter is maintenance free but did you see any other disadvantages using Cetus Sieve ?
how do you plan on keeping the fingerlings from getting sucked out the skimmers?
or keeping them from swimming thru the balancing/drain pipes between the tanks?
How much water do those filters use per day?
Please let us know hows everything working......please?
Wow, I can't wait til June!
did you just drill holes in the bottom part of the barrels with the K1
What are the filters that you were using called and where can I get one?
Hello, were are you located, I'm interested in seeing your system?
Please tell me where to buy in bulk the tilapia food you use. Thanks much
Did you make the RDF boxes? Thanks
What kind of filter did you buy and how much did they cost?

How many fish make it to harvest time with this process with presumption of the filter work as planned?.
All
Thanks for replying. Am looking to start similar project.
Hello
Where you buy the drum filter
How much and capacity
Where did you buy the RDF filter?
Where you buy the drum filter?
Can we get an update on your setup?
looks like he sold it
Did you say there's 10g per minutes flowing through the tanks? Is that through each IBC?
Joshua Meadowcroft Yes, I have a couple pretty big pumps
fishandworms Ok. what was your feed cost to raise the 1000 fish to 1lb?
That all looks great.
What is your average monthly electricity bill? and water bill?
is there money to be made farming Tilapia ?
not sure what is outside but you could use that drain line to feed a small Aquaponics green house. Seems a shame to waste all that good fish poo ;) Local dinners could do a one stop shop veggies and fish all in one place.

Now that's a fish room :).
Awesome stuff.

VERY NICE.
Hi Steve, how to contact you by facebook, skype or whatsapp. I need some helps. Thanks
