  • Pam Grier, the iconic star of the 1974 Blaxploitation classic 'Foxy Brown', announced exciting plans for her beloved film during a recent appearance on 'The Jennifer Hudson Show'. The celebrated actress revealed that 'Foxy Brown' is being reimagined into a musical. Additionally, a seven-episode limited series based on her 2010 memoir, 'Foxy: My Life in Three Acts', is in the works.
"We’re going to be doing 'Foxy Brown' also as a musical," Grier shared, though she did not provide further details. She went on to describe the planned limited series, which will delve into her relationships with basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and comedians Freddie Prinze and Richard Pryor. "It can’t be a seven-hour movie, but it’s going to be a limited series, like the series I’m promoting today, 'Them'. So it’ll be seven episodes, shot like a film," Grier explained.
In the episode premiering on May 30th, Grier reflected on her storied career, including her advocacy for women stunt performers. Authenticity and realism were crucial to Grier, who performed her own stunts until injuries made authenticity come at a price she was unwilling to pay. She then demanded a stunt double, J.D. Davis.
"It was very important to be authentic because now I’m responsible for teaching a patriarchal society that a woman could be a martial artist and stand up to aggression," Grier emphasized to Jennifer Hudson. She praised her stunt double, J.D. Davis, for ensuring safety and authenticity, a practice now standard in the industry. "All of the women have a stunt double, so they’re not injured. You don’t want to get injured for what? A movie? We’re more important. We’ve gotta live past the filmmaking."
In a lighter moment on the show, Grier revealed an unexpected talent of rapper Snoop Dogg, her co-star from the 2000 film 'Bones'. Reflecting on a scene they shared, Grier said, "Oh my God, and he can smooch!" She recounted the rapper’s reaction upon meeting her, which he shared in an earlier appearance on Hudson’s show, confessing he fainted out of sheer excitement. "When he told me that, I said, 'Oh my God, I’m glad he didn’t hurt himself,'" Grier recalled, adding that they have been friends and mutual supporters ever since.
