I have to say as an African I'm really proud of the effort that went into researching this like it's so detailed he definitely deserved the Oscar for this.
@@robintuchel No problem, bro :) Just letting you know, but I could definitely understand why you thought it was "about". It really does sound like that.
At 35 already hes a beast. Imagine in 10-20 years he will easily be in Hans Zimmer level. Hes definitely walking in the paths of the giants like Hans Zimmer and John Williams.
He'll never be equal or be able to reach past the feats of John Williams, that's just heretical. Take the Zimmer and Williams comparison as an example; Hans Zimmer is much, despite his own feats, like any other modern-day composer, a music producer. John Williams isn't just on another level, he's in a box of his own. The closest of the new generation of composers to John Williams is Michael Giacchino but even he couldn't reach that level. William's is in the top 5 of the most decorated people in movie history, not just amongst composers but all of movie history. This means he's up there with people like Dennis Muren and we all know no one is toppling Muren.
The Mandalorian's theme song had a little tribal African beats in it which reminded me of Killmonger's theme song and was surprised both were made by the same person
there’s so much detail put into this song. it’s only like two minutes long but he literally put a chant of t’challa’s name in it. idk, it’s just something about that, that makes me love the song even more.
He really did that with the Panter score and theme! Every time I hear them drums or the little chants in/outside of Wakanda my excitement jumps! That's how amazing it is and is instantly recognizable. Lüdwig is just annoyingly talented and then he went and absolutely smashed it with The Mandalorian.
I’m not even kidding when I say this, but Ludwig Göransson is an artist ahead of his time, we’re gonna be talking about him in the future like we talk about great minds like Mozart and Beethoven. He’s a GENIUS
I just saw The Black Panther movie with an Orchestra, and the actual Talking drum player (Massamba Diop) was there performing the drum portions along with the movie - for the entirety of the film. The orchestra played their parts too. Them drums, however is a beast. They give you the same feeling you get when you hear them in the movie, only elevated. My heart is full. Such a once in a lifetime experience.
@@AceDeclan That's not exactly how it works - it's all new original music composed by Ludwig. But yes, he had to research and learn about new instruments and sounds and beats to make the score authentic to Africa.
"One of my friends recorded an album with Baaba maal" I have a hunch that the friend is Hans Zimmer who composed the Lion King soundtrack with him, making it the understatement of the year.
I remember getting goosebumps when I heard the Techalla main theme for the first time in the theatre, and watching this video actually brings me back to that moment. That Oscar win really is well deserved! I like how genius does deconstruction videos of various music genres now, keep it up!
Amazingly, he took this horn keyboard composition and brought it to life with a live orchestra. This is an incredible transformation. Music is truly moving.
Being fascinated with African culture, and as a musician myself, I really enjoyed this video. I loved Black Panther too. Its one of my favorite Marvel films of all time.☺👍
Watching black panther on the big screen my expectations was a little low but when I walk out that movie theater I felt like I woke up from a coma so mission accomplished
It was totally other worldly and mind blowing. I've never heard a superhero theme like this mixing the traditional and orchestral parts were totally awesome!!! This is a masterpiece by Ludwig. I was mind blown when I heard this 2 years back and still listen to itm

@Alfonso G I actually really enjoyed that that stereotype was defied in this way (though the sprinkles here and their of the soundtrack in the actual movie were done well). This score is so elevating, Ludwig did a great job in showing appreciation for the cultural vibrancy.
