I never thought I could get interested in an anime Game. But damn, the story is good enough to catch you. This game was a very refreshing surprise. I love it.
"I came looking for booba and I found gold" is probably really the best way to describe this game. Joined just to see the jiggles, expecting that I'll be deleting it within the same week I installed the game, as I have done many other mobile games, only to be pulled in by the story and now I can't stop.
Dude, same! I was fully prepared to just delete the game right after witnessing the fanservice. I'm still playing it! It's surprisingly so good. Art, music, and of course the story. Every Nikke has depth to make you care for them beyond their huge... personalities.
The game draws you in with fanservice and then keeps you in with the plot and a lot of great characters. It's basically the renaissance of early 2000s visual novels. They had to have sex in them or nobody would even think to invest time in them

@@ApexGale I don't think that's very generalizable. Seems to me like that strategy only brings in one type of audience. There's plenty of other games that draw in people by promoting it's adherence to a genre, and "sexy" is just one genre of many.

@@kyero8724 a year ago on DCG discord I went in a big argument with basically everyone. I was posing the hypothesis they were screwing with the rates. I wasn't wrong, there was a prosecution about this. I wasn't aware of any outcome. Are you positive the end of service was about this?
I actually posted a separate comment before seeing other people talking about the costume gacha, but what I haven't seen anyone talk about is the fact that you're guaranteed to get the costume "eventually". There's a reward list, and each time you pull something other than the costume you want that reward gets removed from the list. So if you're REALLY wanting a costume (and don't mind spending $70-$80 if you keep failing to pull it) you will eventually have a 100% chance to get the costume once you've received all other possible rewards on the list.
But when you win and get the jackpot in the gacha bro... Even drugs won't compare to how high and ecstatic you feel lmao. I'm really happy about my 2024 New Years Blessing and getting 2 Liter, Pepper, Signal, Modernia, Folkwagon dupe, Nero, Maxwell, Scarlet Black Shadow, and Miranda... All within 80 pulls. All I'm hoping for is to get Red Hood (and Dorothy, Rapunzel, and Nihilister, a liberation non-gacha unit; for Pilgrim tower), and the PVP gods, i.e. Jackal and Biscuit.
Playing Nikke really makes me want the mileage ticket system in every gacha game. Having to skip banners and do math around pity systems can be a drag at times.
Extremely underrated, I rrally did not expect you to be so knowledgeable about the lore and the usb lost relics. Overall the editing is very enjoyable and actually worth watching for 25 miniutes. Thank you for your kind knowledge, youre amazing.
@@HarderThanHardDifficulty Mustang's theme is iconic, but I'm not sure I'd call it my favorite. My favorites to listen to is Satellites from the Goddess of Victory event that I have in the command room jukebox, and then Dilemma from the Perilous Siege squad event (the two assassin girls, D and K and K isn't released yet) that I play in the main menu lobby.

@@HarderThanHardDifficulty K is def underrated and I'm really sad she's not available yet. She's one of the top 10 in terms of design, imo. I'm not sure who I would consider to be the best designed. I like the more militarized / serious styles like Poli or D or Privaty. My favorite Counters member is Rapi; both cus of her character and partially because her EN VA is the same as Genshin's Keqing EN VA.
I downloaded the game because I saw the character designs and thought: "haha funny butt jiggle thatt won't be in the actual game" Then I played it and I got hooked. The "plot" is tempting but the plot is compelling.
Wasn't expecting someone to give a surprisingly in-depth review of this gacha game. I've been playing since Day 1 and I'm currently brute-forcing my way to Chapter 26 of the story. Cool video, by the way! The audio was slightly off, but the points you brought up about Nikke's monetization and your hilarious edits were spot on. 🙂
Combination of story, gameplay, but most of all: music. Cosmograph is a fookin’ beast. Dude pumps out bangers and it’s all I look forward to every next event
I'd also like to give a shoutout to the other big name doujin composers that Cosmograph got, such as Feryquitous, ESTi, BlackLolita, AJURIKA, and Karut. As someone who follows the doujin music scene and knows their past works, this is Nikke's biggest draw for me as the OST's quality is guaranteed. The guest composers just add more hype, as Cosmograph got composer from Tekken(AJURIKA) and Blue Archive (Karut), games that are well known for their good OSTs
If Vaati did a comprehensive lore / speculation breakdown of NIKKE I would absolutely watch that. -- Also as someone who also enjoys reading all the story and lore tidbits, I appreciate you G. Good video! I'm surprised you don't have more subs.
This review actually got me to try the game. The actual ads almost feel like a disservice by reducing it to "butt game". The story is good so far and it's surprisingly not that grindy. Thanks random UA-cam man.

About damn time someone had the courage to make a proper review of this rare gem of a game. As a Day One player who plays every day I can relate to every point. Great video dude (and I'm a sucker for these abundantly edited and memed videos). To all the Commanders out there, good luck on Red Hood, I'll sit comfortably in the meantime with mine at Core 3 (I skipped quite a bit of banners and saved where I could to reach this)
it was rough at first month but it got improved overtime and devs actually listened to playerbase. like by the time i comment on this, they buffed Red Hood Burst 3 damage almost by twice because of backlash on reddit. and somehow the game made top 5 of gacha revenue almost every month as well.
Now if only a certain other company would be so open to buffs based on player feedback, I do suppose that the Nikke community was a bit more chill and civil about requesting the buffs, so ShiftUp did it as a reward because we are good boys and girls.
Yeah, the first month felt like a legitimate Bethesda release. I'm really happy with how polished the game is now (I wonder if they fixed some of the broken dialogue in the main story...)

Don’t ya just love it when you’re playing your Waifu-bait, shooting gacha game, then out of nowhere it hits you over the head with existential dread and themes darker then black? Good times.
As many Nikke Enjoyers have said, came for the booba, stayed for the story. Solid and hilarious review of the game. I picked up Nikke on a whim during the chainsaw man collab figuring I'd drop it in a few days like I have other gacha games, but between the story and actually needing to strategize at times to push through content I'm finding myself enjoying this game way more than I expected. The music is fire, the waifus cover all the tropes to the point that they even give you Crow to hate, the story while not perfect is pretty good and the devs listen. Doesn't hurt that the game is pretty generous to f2p players if you make good use of resources. And the Mid Hood thing aside (she's getting buffed!) the anniversary event has been as good as Over Zone if not better depending on what you think about the mini game which is all I wanted out of the event.

3:00 I would say that "Corruption" is the disease for Nikkes, but the effects feel more like a Khorne Possession, imagine if there is a Rapture-fication where Nikkes gets corrupted but their bodies warp and mutate turning into those like half organic Raptures like Chatterbox, Blacksmith, Ultra Z.E.U.S and The Collector, and considering how the Red Hood Event, they describe of finding a failed Nikke-Rapture Fusion Amalgamate. Anyways overall good review, loved the humour and editing, keep it up
The twisted experiments that the raptures did to fuse the nikkes are what the Heretics that we see now in the game. Remember Marian shes all busted up and broken without legs and when we saw her next shes all fix with a different body. Thats the amalgamation of corruption with fusion of rapture parts
Nikke has genuinely become the go to gacha game for me. I've had times where I've either put down the one for a few weeks like FGO and PGR or I've slowed down my playtime like with Genshin or Honkai despite being a Mihoyo bootlicker. But I literally never remember a time where I didn't want to play Nikke. I love the general gameplay, and the characters and setting have incredible charm and effort put into them. Also helps that Shift Up has been pretty great at listening to their playerbase. They've made plenty of QOL adjustments to the game since it first came out, and even recently decided to buff Red Hood, a character people were anticipating for a literal year after the last minute nerf. I mean, you have to commend that they bothered remove Makima's coat after all the chaos it caused in the fanbase.
@@Exel3nce Well for PGR, I haven't permanently left the game, but I've had instances where I've been burned out from playing it. It's pretty good with a generous gacha, but I'm not as invested as I am with other games. Now Makima's coat is an insane story. During the CSM collab, it was released that Makima's coat would cover up her trunk. Considering that not only was Nikke advertised with big bums and but the internet was obsessed with Makima's ass, a lot of fans who hate when coats and hair block the view weren't happy. It gotten so bad that Shift Up made an update that removed her coat. I'll admit, it was really funny seeing the whole thing unfold.
Same, my "main" gacha game is/was FGO and I still haven't managed to sit down and finish LB6 where I've played nikke consistently for like a year. Something about the events/gameplay loop is easier deal with whereas every time I see an event in FGO I have to mentally prepare myself to get through it lol. Still love the game though, maybe I'm just burned out.

@@ENORELXD2 Well Nikke is built around being able to play through short bursts, while FGO is much more focused around grinding for hours to get through the game. It's why back-to-back events for that game can be so exhausting because you're expected to but way more time into FGO events than most of gacha games' events. It's even more painful because those events can hold pretty cool welfare servants, and one of the worst feeling you can have playing FGO is missing out on one of those welfare servants because you either missed the event entirely, or didn't grind enough to finish the event story.

This game is for gaccha what Kill la kill was for anime: the "plot" gets your attention, but then you stay for the plot. The NIKKE characters are all very well written and voice acted. I just wish they would have just voice acted everything. Great review, Chadventurer!

As an active player since launch, I can confirm this review is objectively correct. The rates are workable even for free to play players. The story is fantastic and there are dozens of side-stories in the campaign to add more worldbuilding and flavor to it. The gameplay is good when you strategize your squads, especially on later levels with unique gimmicks and raids with multiple squad requirements. Overall, good stuff.
The randomness in this game is quite interesting, I didn’t invest a penny in the game and calmly almost got to the mommy dragon with a pretty good team, while other people with higher levels are still complaining about the 160 lvl wall.
That's what I like about the game, I barely spend any money on the game (spend only if really necessary or need to horde for the next big Nikke in the market) but overall, they're just handing gems at you like candy, from the maintenance to dailies to event shops to even raids

@@venmong8718 Speedrunner mindset with the NEED to just finish the game and put it down. It's disturbing. One thing I like about Genshin, regardless of what anyone says about the game, is how the story itself brought it up, a few times, to just slow down and enjoy the journey, not fly through it.

Actually really good video, you showed parts of the game that appeal to both people who have already played the game and newcomers with good humor in between, In my experience is hard to find good nikke content on youtube so it's really nice to see well crafted videos like this, looking foward to more content be it related to nikke or not. Tho i gotta say, even if the rates are way better than other gachas, the only guranteed to getting a character comes at 200 hundred rolls, so if the gods don't want you to get a character you won't get it unless you saved your tickets

As someone who had been playing since the first month and stopped recently (and came back for the anniversary), I'd say the biggest issue is the artificial difficulty wall which is basically just time-gating most progression until you've raised your Nikkes enough. They barely even give you a chance to overcome that with strategy, since handicap your team for being unleveled.
*Guide to feel like a French Nikke player* - Get on Google Translate, French -> English - Type "Je veux niquer" - Press the audio button to hear French pronunciation - Watch the translation - Regret not being french
It's interesting how Nikke makes you work for your rewards, but is quite generous if you can endure the daily grind. The developers did a similar thing with the original release of their previous game, DESTINY CHILD, back when it was only available in korean. The handouts were so ridiculous that a casual collector could comfortably get every single unit in the game and still have loads of resource to spare without paying a single dollar (before I quit the game, I was regularly above 100k crystals, when a 10-pull was only 2.8k, and the pull rates were as high as Nikke's). Eventually, an event was introduced that would cater to new players with entry-level missions, and in exchange provide maxed-out units for free, no strings attached. The crux was that the powercreep was so intense that you were forced to pull for any new units to get through event challenges, and you'd have no business stepping even one foot into the whale-infested waters of the PVPsea, unless you decided to empty your pockets, your inheritance, and most of your free time buying recources, managing limited inventory, and upgrading every unit separately - twice.

I can't remember the amount of times I chuckled. You just got a subscriber and a plot follower (though I prefer a more close-to-chest approach than Nikke offers). If not for this review I would have probably never tried the game - now at least I'm waiting for it to download. Thank you :)
Fun how party-based gacha games are the better ones. GFL is one I've played for longer than I'd like to admit, that mobile Octopath game is also quite good, and now Nikke. GFL had the same effect as Nikke all those years back, came for the booba, stayed for the depression

I'm gonna be honest, I couldn't care less for the anime titty or ass. I love them both, but it doesn't grab my attention in game. I'm playing NIKKE because I love the story, and I'm extremely pissed that I can't level my nikkes fast enough to see more of the story. The gameplay being good is just another plus for me, and the designs range from pretty amazing to goofy ahh anime skimpy clothes. I love this game man.

At first, I stayed for "The plot" as well. Now look at me, bawling my eyes cause of a cat event story. Getting hyped cause of its music, and drawn towards the beautiful story telling of this game. I can't not recommend this game, play it right now as well to get one of the best free nikke out there to help your start up. Truly, nikke is one of the best gacha games I played out of all the gacha games I played (yes, I played fgo, ak, guardian tales, genshin, honkai impact, star rail, blue archive, and more) this one really takes the cake with its massive cake... No, Bakery!

This game is a slot machine with a waifu skin... and the people that play it seem to be doing it because of a sunk cost fallacy more than anything else and they all desperately try and convince themselves that they didn't waste a ton of time doing something they don't really enjoy because they have this addictive pull to it now.
While I was living in Japan, Nikke had medium sized pillows at the arcades with one side of a girl with a gun and the other side with a full ass shot of the character. Nikke def knows its player base when it comes to their merch
Obligatory genshin dunking when you play like atleast half of the other gachas that are also towards the top. PSA it’s not just genshin the other hoyo games are fairly similar HSR gives a bit more, I still wouldn’t call it a lot, and zenless their newest game feels like genshin in terms of pulls.

Whenever I saw Nikke stuff I thought it was just another coomer gacha (that ad of the guy in the party was obnoxious, so obnoxious that I even felt a bit tempted to check because of so freaking obnoxious that was, of why a game has such a horrible ad (so I guess the ad worked), but I really realized I don't want to be that guy). Now I'm really glad I watched this video, because, in spite of that, it's still a game that devs put a lot of effort and it's generous in its gacha - the plot surprised me; due to the vast amount of characters, there will be at least one that will call your attention (Anis is best waifu). But, in the end of the day, it's still a coomer gacha, can't deny that and that's what you're getting and...after Azur Lane, no, I don't want that.
Hello, You convinced me to try the game. The story is an easy 9/10 for my taste. The gameplay for killing bosses is great. Got really lucky with anniversary event and got four copies of Red Hood who is hard carrying, and I managed to get 4 stars of Snow White Innocent days. My sole complaint is that I'm too weak to keep playing the story when I want more.
Always happy to hear about new players warming up to the game. Sadly it's a complaint most lore enjoyers have felt. I've been there myself. If it helps, It will take some time but eventually you get used to the slower pace. If you get up to date with the story you'll be able to blast through the next chapters when they release them as you accumulate power. Congrats on red hood, you won the lottery! :) Have fun out there fellow cummander. o7

@@kyero8724 a year ago on DCG discord I went in a big argument with basically everyone. I was posing the hypothesis they were screwing with the rates. I wasn't wrong, there was a prosecution about this. I wasn't aware of any outcome. Are you positive the end of service was about this?
I actually posted a separate comment before seeing other people talking about the costume gacha, but what I haven't seen anyone talk about is the fact that you're guaranteed to get the costume "eventually". There's a reward list, and each time you pull something other than the costume you want that reward gets removed from the list. So if you're REALLY wanting a costume (and don't mind spending $70-$80 if you keep failing to pull it) you will eventually have a 100% chance to get the costume once you've received all other possible rewards on the list.

All I'm hoping for is to get Red Hood (and Dorothy, Rapunzel, and Nihilister, a liberation non-gacha unit; for Pilgrim tower), and the PVP gods, i.e. Jackal and Biscuit.
Playing Nikke really makes me want the mileage ticket system in every gacha game. Having to skip banners and do math around pity systems can be a drag at times.
There’s other gacha games with similar mechanics, like Cookie Run Kingdom.

As someone who follows the doujin music scene and knows their past works, this is Nikke's biggest draw for me as the OST's quality is guaranteed. The guest composers just add more hype, as Cosmograph got composer from Tekken(AJURIKA) and Blue Archive (Karut), games that are well known for their good OSTs

About damn time someone had the courage to make a proper review of this rare gem of a game. As a Day One player who plays every day I can relate to every point. Great video dude (and I'm a sucker for these abundantly edited and memed videos). To all the Commanders out there, good luck on Red Hood, I'll sit comfortably in the meantime with mine at Core 3 (I skipped quite a bit of banners and saved where I could to reach this)
it was rough at first month but it got improved overtime and devs actually listened to playerbase. like by the time i comment on this, they buffed Red Hood Burst 3 damage almost by twice because of backlash on reddit. and somehow the game made top 5 of gacha revenue almost every month as well.
Now if only a certain other company would be so open to buffs based on player feedback, I do suppose that the Nikke community was a bit more chill and civil about requesting the buffs, so ShiftUp did it as a reward because we are good boys and girls.
Yeah, the first month felt like a legitimate Bethesda release. I'm really happy with how polished the game is now (I wonder if they fixed some of the broken dialogue in the main story...)

Trapped in my video editor since September all the while it's production slowly turned my apartment into an abode of neglect and filth.
As many Nikke Enjoyers have said, came for the booba, stayed for the story. Solid and hilarious review of the game. I picked up Nikke on a whim during the chainsaw man collab figuring I'd drop it in a few days like I have other gacha games, but between the story and actually needing to strategize at times to push through content I'm finding myself enjoying this game way more than I expected. The music is fire, the waifus cover all the tropes to the point that they even give you Crow to hate, the story while not perfect is pretty good and the devs listen. Doesn't hurt that the game is pretty generous to f2p players if you make good use of resources. And the Mid Hood thing aside (she's getting buffed!) the anniversary event has been as good as Over Zone if not better depending on what you think about the mini game which is all I wanted out of the event.

3:00 I would say that "Corruption" is the disease for Nikkes, but the effects feel more like a Khorne Possession, imagine if there is a Rapture-fication where Nikkes gets corrupted but their bodies warp and mutate turning into those like half organic Raptures like Chatterbox, Blacksmith, Ultra Z.E.U.S and The Collector, and considering how the Red Hood Event, they describe of finding a failed Nikke-Rapture Fusion Amalgamate.

The twisted experiments that the raptures did to fuse the nikkes are what the Heretics that we see now in the game. Remember Marian shes all busted up and broken without legs and when we saw her next shes all fix with a different body. Thats the amalgamation of corruption with fusion of rapture parts
Nikke has genuinely become the go to gacha game for me. I've had times where I've either put down the one for a few weeks like FGO and PGR or I've slowed down my playtime like with Genshin or Honkai despite being a Mihoyo bootlicker. But I literally never remember a time where I didn't want to play Nikke. I love the general gameplay, and the characters and setting have incredible charm and effort put into them. Also helps that Shift Up has been pretty great at listening to their playerbase. They've made plenty of QOL adjustments to the game since it first came out, and even recently decided to buff Red Hood, a character people were anticipating for a literal year after the last minute nerf. I mean, you have to commend that they bothered remove Makima's coat after all the chaos it caused in the fanbase.

@@Exel3nce Well for PGR, I haven't permanently left the game, but I've had instances where I've been burned out from playing it. It's pretty good with a generous gacha, but I'm not as invested as I am with other games.
Now Makima's coat is an insane story. During the CSM collab, it was released that Makima's coat would cover up her trunk. Considering that not only was Nikke advertised with big bums and but the internet was obsessed with Makima's ass, a lot of fans who hate when coats and hair block the view weren't happy. It gotten so bad that Shift Up made an update that removed her coat. I'll admit, it was really funny seeing the whole thing unfold.
Same, my "main" gacha game is/was FGO and I still haven't managed to sit down and finish LB6 where I've played nikke consistently for like a year.
Something about the events/gameplay loop is easier deal with whereas every time I see an event in FGO I have to mentally prepare myself to get through it lol. Still love the game though, maybe I'm just burned out.

@@ENORELXD2 Well Nikke is built around being able to play through short bursts, while FGO is much more focused around grinding for hours to get through the game. It's why back-to-back events for that game can be so exhausting because you're expected to but way more time into FGO events than most of gacha games' events. It's even more painful because those events can hold pretty cool welfare servants, and one of the worst feeling you can have playing FGO is missing out on one of those welfare servants because you either missed the event entirely, or didn't grind enough to finish the event story.

As an active player since launch, I can confirm this review is objectively correct.
The rates are workable even for free to play players.
The story is fantastic and there are dozens of side-stories in the campaign to add more worldbuilding and flavor to it.
The gameplay is good when you strategize your squads, especially on later levels with unique gimmicks and raids with multiple squad requirements.
Overall, good stuff.
Personally, NIKKE have one of the best rates in any gacha game I've ever played.
The randomness in this game is quite interesting, I didn’t invest a penny in the game and calmly almost got to the mommy dragon with a pretty good team, while other people with higher levels are still complaining about the 160 lvl wall.
That's what I like about the game, I barely spend any money on the game (spend only if really necessary or need to horde for the next big Nikke in the market) but overall, they're just handing gems at you like candy, from the maintenance to dailies to event shops to even raids

Never expected for this video to be this good and pleasant to my ears and eyes. Simple and funny.
As someone who had been playing since the first month and stopped recently (and came back for the anniversary), I'd say the biggest issue is the artificial difficulty wall which is basically just time-gating most progression until you've raised your Nikkes enough. They barely even give you a chance to overcome that with strategy, since handicap your team for being unleveled.

Well, now that you put it that way. The big 4 may already be present and we may actually have the best Warhammer title on our hands.
It's interesting how Nikke makes you work for your rewards, but is quite generous if you can endure the daily grind. The developers did a similar thing with the original release of their previous game, DESTINY CHILD, back when it was only available in korean. The handouts were so ridiculous that a casual collector could comfortably get every single unit in the game and still have loads of resource to spare without paying a single dollar (before I quit the game, I was regularly above 100k crystals, when a 10-pull was only 2.8k, and the pull rates were as high as Nikke's). Eventually, an event was introduced that would cater to new players with entry-level missions, and in exchange provide maxed-out units for free, no strings attached.
The crux was that the powercreep was so intense that you were forced to pull for any new units to get through event challenges, and you'd have no business stepping even one foot into the whale-infested waters of the PVPsea, unless you decided to empty your pockets, your inheritance, and most of your free time buying recources, managing limited inventory, and upgrading every unit separately - twice.

I'm gonna be honest, I couldn't care less for the anime titty or ass. I love them both, but it doesn't grab my attention in game. I'm playing NIKKE because I love the story, and I'm extremely pissed that I can't level my nikkes fast enough to see more of the story. The gameplay being good is just another plus for me, and the designs range from pretty amazing to goofy ahh anime skimpy clothes. I love this game man.

This game is a slot machine with a waifu skin... and the people that play it seem to be doing it because of a sunk cost fallacy more than anything else and they all desperately try and convince themselves that they didn't waste a ton of time doing something they don't really enjoy because they have this addictive pull to it now.

PSA it’s not just genshin the other hoyo games are fairly similar HSR gives a bit more, I still wouldn’t call it a lot, and zenless their newest game feels like genshin in terms of pulls.

Just wanna thank Scarlet for being the second SSR I ever rolled in this game before I knew anything about how rare and good she is. The carry of a lifetime
Whenever I saw Nikke stuff I thought it was just another coomer gacha (that ad of the guy in the party was obnoxious, so obnoxious that I even felt a bit tempted to check because of so freaking obnoxious that was, of why a game has such a horrible ad (so I guess the ad worked), but I really realized I don't want to be that guy). Now I'm really glad I watched this video, because, in spite of that, it's still a game that devs put a lot of effort and it's generous in its gacha - the plot surprised me; due to the vast amount of characters, there will be at least one that will call your attention (Anis is best waifu). But, in the end of the day, it's still a coomer gacha, can't deny that and that's what you're getting and...after Azur Lane, no, I don't want that.

You convinced me to try the game. The story is an easy 9/10 for my taste. The gameplay for killing bosses is great. Got really lucky with anniversary event and got four copies of Red Hood who is hard carrying, and I managed to get 4 stars of Snow White Innocent days.
My sole complaint is that I'm too weak to keep playing the story when I want more.
Always happy to hear about new players warming up to the game.
Sadly it's a complaint most lore enjoyers have felt. I've been there myself.
If it helps, It will take some time but eventually you get used to the slower pace. If you get up to date with the story you'll be able to blast through the next chapters when they release them as you accumulate power.
