Great reaction. 'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday - but 15 is also significant in Japan as that is when compulsory education ends, so the girl is realising she will no longer be considered as a child and her first 15 years passed by so quickly.
So she is etching this special night into her heart so she will never forget.
At shows on or near their own 15th birthdays in 2014 Yui and Moa took over lead vocals, exactly as happened here.
This video was from 2019 and it was Moa's 20th birthday - that is the official coming of age in Japan, so another special occasion and once again Moa took over lead vocals when Su handed her the mic and stand ... and Su took Moa's place in the choreo.
Yes BABYMETAL fans are really passionate and very protective of them ... depending on our ages we feel like proud older sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, parents and even grandparents having watched the girls grow up and achieve so much while remaining sweet, polite, appreciative and very humble over the last 13 years.

What a great reaction... I exactly feel it the way you described it! When watching video's like this I almost feel proud of them hahahaha. They bring so much joy to me and I often asked myself if they really understand that. The fans are committed but I guess they can't compare it since they've been doing this since they were very young kids.

Die hard? That is probably an understatement. The One is very dedicated and zealous. And yes a bit prickly. There are some triggers that you have already found - anime comparisons, are they sisters, they look alike, squeaky voices, questioning talent or commitment, etc. Actually now that I think of it don't you dare say anything bad about Babymetal ever 😄 And never, never say anything bad about the Queen 👑

This song and version needs a lot of explanation, I'm pretty sure you'll find someone willing to give you that, I'm just gonna suggest the right Headbanger!! version to start with, choose whatever you want:
    - live at Legend 1997.
    - live at Budokan 2014
    - live at Legend I 2012 (first time Kami Band appears).
"Human whirlpool"? lol It's called circle pit and it's pretty normal at metal and BM live concerts as well mosh pit (or mosh'sh pit here) and wall of death.

@@yolandria We will have to agree to disagree on that, Legend 1997 is the cream of the crop, from the opening notes to the smashing of the gong. It also catches the amazing youthful excitement present in Baby Metal's early years. The smiles are priceless. And it has the best crowd shots.

  • @Psyggie
    @Psyggie Рік тому +27

A big part of Babymetal's shows is getting the crowd involved. A lot of songs have crowd chants, and tons of spots in the choreo (like the bowing section here) that are meant to get the crowd to copy it.
The idea , and a big part of the appeal, is that after you see them live, you feel like you performed WITH them, and not "I watched them play"
It's very deliberate and extremely smart! I'm seeing my first two shows ever this month and could not be more excited to be ready to chant and dance!

Definitely enjoying your BM reactions. Energetic, genuine, just a lot of fun. Just an FYI: Babymetal has been doing this song a long time. The iconic side to side "head banging" motion was actually arrived at by BM's choreographer to keep the young ladies from hurting their necks.

  • @Filboid2000

Although you reacted to this version (not a bad version; if nothing else, it's what could be called a rarity), there's no reason why you can't look into the "Legend 1997" version (see my top twenty list: ua-cam.com/play/PLdhz2aj0pt4zPl0BZLevPUR9uHKQA27uj.html ). This version to which you reacted is performed by what I like to call "BABYMETAL, A.Y." (After Yui). Moametal is typically to the right of Su-metal (the lead singer) and Yuimetal was typically to the left, but they do switch up from time to time during performances of songs. One way to distinguish them is that Moa has some cute dimples when she smiles, and Yui has chubby - almost babyface like - cheeks. Yui is not in this version of "Headbanger"; the other is Momoko, one of the BABYMETAL Avengers at the time (I have no doubt that either Jake Muller or Grington will fill you in on the details - they like to write full-length novellas). Let's just say that BABYMETAL has a very colorful history.
Something else: although I agree with the One that BABYMETAL is best served live, they have several music videos that are works of art (and this was NOT their official music video of "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" - to be honest, you might want to take a pass on that because it isn't one of their best MV's). You've already seen two that I think are among their best: "Karate" and "Megitsune" (although the versions of "Pa Pa Ya" and "Gimme Chocolate" are official videos, I don't consider them music videos in the strictest sense). The three other official music videos that I highly recommend is "Doki Doki Morning" (their very first MV, released in 2012), "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay", their second MV also released in 2012), and "BxMxC" which was released in 2020 (see the list, man! It's a good list - trust me!). I think it would be interesting to see how you react to their beginning songs.
And as you have witnessed, BABYMETAL's crowd control is phenomenal. I've heard many people say that BABYMETAL makes the crowd part of the band and they feed off each other's energy. I would surrender vital parts of my anatomy to see them in concert! And if I had a time machine, I'd go back to 2016 to see them in concert!
The story I heard was when this song was first came out, the girls were more or less forbidden to actually head bang because it was feared that they might injure themselves during performances (the girls were in their early teens when they started touring). That's why their "headbanging" is side to side, not forward and back.
I'm going to make a suggestion/challenge: react to a BABYMETAL concert. The two best that I've seen thus far are the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" ( ua-cam.com/play/PLdBAj9hZ91wCao72oSqTMLrGpIDOqzR2Q.html ) and "Budokan Black Night" ( ua-cam.com/play/PLdBAj9hZ91wBwsBfjsKH9zWxA5YOOUkSI.html ). That's sure to keep you out of trouble for a while!
Another suggestion: when you pause to say your piece, tap the left arrow once on your keyboard - that will take the video back five seconds. That way you won't get "lost" trying to get yourself re-oriented to the video. Just sayin'.
    Sorry about the wall (again).
    Keep rockin' the BABYMETAL!!!
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

As this was a minor compilation video to get past blocks, Momoko and Riho are seen in a few spots, but the Avenger (dancers who were brought in to fill out the choreography in Yui's spot, but did not sing) at the actual show was Kano Fujihara, but more about her another time. 😉

As I mentioned in your last Babymetal video, the fanbase is called "The ONE" because at a Babymetal show, we are all ONE with Babymetal, having specific lines and chants and yes, even choreography so that we too are part of the show and not just spectators (no other band i know of can stop a circle pit mid-song like Babymetal can).
The part where the crowd shouts "Ki-E-Ro!" (telling the crybabies in the crowd "Get Out of Here!" is whispered by Su on the studio track, but at live shows she points the mic to the crowd, queuing them to shout the line.
The bowing is not worship....it is called Dozega hedabon and they took the most shameful posture of apology and turned it into a full-bodied headbang. There is one video i have seen where Moa actually tells the crowd "Do the dozega hedabon!" (It might be dogeza, I get it mixed up all the time) 🤪
We see here why Moa is in charge of "Scream and Dance". She draws that final scream out a full second longer than Su usually does, but admittedly does not have Su's breath control or vocal range. It is a rare treat to see her take lead as she once said in an interview that she does not like the pressure that comes with singing lead often and prefers her role in supporting Su-metal. Coincidentally, Su has said that Moa has the tougher role. 😅

Most BM fans are in the 40-60 age range in Japan. There are a lot of company managers, directors, and presidents headbanging here.
BM's live shows are where they can leave all their ties behind and become kids again. SU is called Queen and MOA is called Princess. It is not a cult.😂
Headbanger is a song that has been played at most of our live shows since the early days, and I think you will enjoy other live versions with different staging.

Nice reaction. Moabanger is awesome. From the legend M concert for Moa's 20th birthday. She deserves all the praise she gets. Many were not expecting the Moa scream during that end part. But hey, her tittle is in the group is scream and dance. They should let her do it more often. In between songs for no reason at all. The fans will go nuts for her. While Su usually does the main portion of the singing. Here we get to see her gladfully hand over the mic and slide over to the side and let Moa take center stage. Moa has said she gets very nervous when all the attention is on her. But I think we can agree she handled it like a pro this time. She's done a few solo performances over the years as well. Mostly after Yui left. Also, here we got to see that Su can do all of the dance routine and seems to enjoy when she can do more dancing as you'll see in some of their other videos too. Su often has a serious face on while performing but after she gives the mic to Moa, you can see her smile the whole time.

And as a huge fan myself, i can confirm that their fans can get really intense, but its all part of the fun at their concerts! Many of us have watched these young women grow up and are just so proud of them. It is a common idea that all east asian women look alike, even tho we can tell each other apart easily but i think its part of exposure. Like you learn to notice the differences in ppl of other races by seeing and interacting with many different ppl of said race if that makes sense?

The whirlpool you are talking about is called a circle pit. This is similar to a mosh pit but where everyone runs around in a circle instead of just slamming together. I saw them last night at the Hammerstein Ballroom and it was an amazing show. I would suggest that you react to the best version of Headbanger, from the 2013 Legend 1997 Concert, where Su-Metal had turned 16 the day before. This was with the original lineup with Su, Moa and Yui, who left the group in 2018. You talk about the bowing, it's because Su-Metal is The Queen. The Legend 1997 concert version of Headbanger will give the best overall look of a crowd and how they react. It was at a Venue called Saitama Super Arena and seats between 30-35,000 people.......and it was jammed. Another great song if you haven't already done it is BxMxC. You should do a twin bill review with the official music video first and the live video version from the 2021 Budokan Concerts. The song is a true killer. And don't worry about the racism nonsense, anyone with two working brain cells and a little common sense knew exactly what you meant. And Moa is very special to all Baby Metal fans, as she is always messing around with the fans and being her amazingly cute self with those dimples, lol. Everybody loves Moa !

This is good version, It was a special version where Moa sang part of the song on her 20th birthday. This is probably my second favorite version of this song (Legend 1997 Su's 16th birthday being my favorite). In the original version of this song they talk about a girl going to a concert on the night of her 15th birthday (you will here the words Ichi Go). This being Moa's 20th Birthday they replaced Ichi Go with hatachi (20). In Japan 15 is a critical age for youths and basically the person is now considered an adult and is saying goodbye to their childhood. there are also fan cam versions where Moa and Yui sing for their respective 15th birthdays. even though she is already 20, I was kind of hoping they'd give Momoko a chance to sing this song.

Nice reaction. Ignore the people accusing you of being racist. People are much too sensitive. The 3 original girls were Su-Metal (main vocalist), Moametal (that beautiful lady that you saw singing the second half of this song, You can tell it's Moa from the dimples when she smiles), and Yuimetal (she wasn't in this performance as she left the group in 2018 due to health reasons. You can tell Yui by her big chubby baby cheeks). Just so you know Yui and Moa did kind of look pretty similar in the earlier years especially. In fact that was one of the reasons why they were chosen to be part of the Babymetal group. Because of their resemblance and cuteness when they are together. So anybody telling you you're racist for saying they look the same needs to stop with the attacks. People are allowed to have an opinion. Nothing wrong with that. People are too sensitive these days. It's one of the major reasons why this world is so polarized these days and it isn't something Babymetal would want anyhow. Anyhow, Su-Metal will always have her hair done in a ponytail, she's the only one who will have the ponytail, so since you personally find they all look similar I'll tell you how to tell them apart further. Yui and Moa won't have a ponytail, but will have pigtails. When Yui left, 3 girls came in to help fill the void left by Yui. Those girls were referred to as the Avengers. You'll know an avenger is performing as they won't have either ponytail nor pigtails, but rather will have their hair down and will have little buns where there would have been pigtails.
Recently one of the avengers (momometal) was promoted to an official Babymetal position and finally officially took Yuimetal's spot. So now Momometal has gotten rid of the hair buns and now has her hair done in pigtails much like moametal. Lastly, Su-Metal, as you noticed always has a mic. Moa and Yui, and now Momo also have mics, but they have the face mics that kind of look almost like the same kind of mics you'd see at a drive thru at your local McDs or something. The avengers don't have any mics, so that is another way to tell the avengers from the other girls.
Lastly, if you want a bit of a challenge, you can also tell the hierarchy of the Babymetal girls based on their outfits. You mentioned their outfits are the same. That isn't entirely true. Su's outfit, while similar, is slightly different from Moa's and Yui's. Moa and Yui have the same outfit (and now Momo). The Avengers, again, have slightly different outfits from Moa and Su. Again, all three are ALMOST identical, but there ARE slight variations, so if you want a bit of a challenge, you can try and see if you spot the differences.

This is a special performance of Headbangerrr!!!!! that was performed at "Babymetal Arises - Beyond The Moon - Legend M" for Moa's 20th Birthday in her home town Nagoya. Normally Su does the lead vocal throughout, but on this occasion, Moa took over halfway through to mark the event.
Headbangerrr!!!!! is a song about a 15 year old girl sneaking out of her parents house to go to her first metal show and coming to the realization that she is leaving childhood behind and moving towards adulthood and that this moment of transition is a significant one that should be memorable, so she is promising herself that she will live as much as possible in this moment and etch it in her memory for the rest of her life.
Over the years, Babymetal have performed it like when marking the girls important milestone birthdays, so this performance is basically a celebration of Moa's birthday with a few thousand of their best friends.

Not completely true about the live over omv, I personally along with quite a lot more people prefer the omv over live versions of megitsune

    Nice reaction again. 😊
Yes, Babymetal fans are really protective over the girls. Because the most of us literally saw them growing up since they were kids and witnessed them becoming successful more and more.
Now that you reacted to some Babymetal songs, you seem to have a lot of questions about them. I hope you will do a reaction video to one of the Babymetal guides. There are (I think) three guides actually, here on UA-cam. The guide from @CrypticMisery is a good one. You'll definitely learn a lot about Babymetal. 😊
Oh... and welcome to the foxhole family 🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻
