  • Internet's reaction to Palworld says more about us, the gaming community, and the gaming industry than about Palworld itself. This game touches on the spirit of our time, the Zeitgeist: our fear of the use and impact of generative AI in the gaming industry. Our rejection of old and tired franchises. Our desire for originality. In this video, I will prove that Palworld is a creative and original game, what the AI panic reveals about us, and the morality issues regarding the freedom Palworld gives to the player.

I have over 4000 hours in Rimworld, 952 hours in Kenshi, and 92 in Palworld. If they added more colony mechanics, I think my Palworld time will shoot over my Kenshi time, at least.
Love the Poring PFP, btw. Brings back memories of the Ragnarok launch when I was in high school.

I find it weird when people criticize the lack of story in palworld but will ignore the lore hints currently in game while also overlooking the fact the game isnt finished and thus hasn't properly told its story.
But its crazy enough we can have such a deep look and discussion from essentially an unfinished game. Its impressive to be able to accomplish such a feat without even having all the pieces of this frankensteins monster.

Exactly that! It is very crazy how we can have all these different discussions from an Early Access game!

@@gamecitizen yeah, Palworld basically crashed into the scene and said "gaming... scratch that, the entire entertainment industry is a Black Mirror episode... always has been"

Let me add my thoughts on the AI thing. I don't think people are realizing how much they are unintentionally making AI more awesome than it really is. AI can create an entire 3D environment or create creature model? Probably from a 2D design? Do people have any idea how popular that would be for literally any artist? And the point you made with Game Freak using AI to make new mon? That's already being done with other people training blank AIs on Pokemon to make up some. There are 1000+ mon along with several different pics of them in cards, anime, and promotional art. And let's not even discount the Pokemon that never see the light of day and are cut on the drawing floor. If Game Freak wanted, it could definitely do it and come up with a ton of concepts to use, if they aren't already.
At the end of the day Palworld's success is because Gamefreak got caught lacking in 4K. TPC is extremely unfriendly to its fanbase unless they are opening their wallets to buy their merch, their games are have been on the decline in both quality and effort, and they aren't really living up to the potential they are clearly capable of. Pocket Pair has seen it and said, "we can do it better" and they went and did it with a fraction of the team size and cost. And all in a modern 3D environment and emulating Pokemon's art style. Just choice execution.

Great video, very well thought out and expressed! I hope society can begin to accept generative AI, I really think it's a wonderful tool, but it's up to responsible use (especially when using it to aid education). I do think there's always going to be a place for human artists, in my mind AI is like IKEA, it makes cheap mass produced good enough furniture accessible to everyone, but a really nice hand crafted table will be worth it to those that can afford it!
btw re: rimworld is the best. Have you tried Dwarf Fortress?

I know a lot about Dwarf Fortress, but I haven't played it myself still! I really want to, though!

Except it still hasn't been proven, whether or not AI has been used in the making of Palworld at all.

I remember hearing the claim that they used AI. Honestly didn't really care and believed it, if it was it looked good. Glad to hear it was false and misguided hate from an abused fanbase.

i haven't played Pokemon since Yellow, and Zelda since wind waker. i don't play survival games (rust, forest, ark...), never had played fortnite (but pubg),
if i had to describe palworld with only my own knowledge,
i'd say its like MGS5 with cute animals.
base build (at the very core, but without the placing of items), shooting, catching and assigning workers (soldiers -> Pals), Open world, collecting materials, a developing tech tree. fighting alongside with your buddy, (not just looking from the side like Pokemon)
in other words, every comparison is based on bias, (and the by far biggest group obviously is Pokemon, and therefore the loudest)

I've played sommaby different types of games and genres now, that most mechanics and mobs tend to look generic to me. So instead of going to a game and thinking, "they coid this mechanic/artstyle from x game" and more inclined to think "so they using these kind of mechanic/artsytle, let's see what they're trying to do with it."

the problem i have with ai is that it makes me think anything i try to learn or do is worthless, i wanted to learn to draw i wanted to learn to animated but ai has basically removed all motivation from for me to even try to learn anything and i dont like that, if ai replaces work such as art writing animating what is the point, because if ai can do anything i can do better i have no point i become useless everyone becomes useless, ai eventually will always be the better option and it sucks.

    • @gamecitizen
      @gamecitizen  5 місяців тому

I've seen other people saying something similar. Like, what is the point of learning programming, if an AI will be able to do it, and do it better? There is one solution, though, to that problem. If we think about the end product, then, yeah, maybe AI will be the best choice. However, we can focus on the journey to reaching the end product. For instance, there is pleasure in figuring out a mathematical problem by yourself, instead of using a calculator. So, there is pleasure is drawing. I draw pretty badly, but I like how meditative can be the process of drawing! If in the future, machines substitute all that humans do, what will be left for us to do? A philosopher, called Bernard Suits, says that we would play games. In playing a game, the result does not matter, but the process. Doing an activity for its own sake.

Oh, no! I'm definitely still going to make videos on Ragnarok! :) As I have said some of my videos, Ragnarok is my "background game". I always play Ragnarok, but I also play some other games. These games come and go, Ragnarok stays! Ragnarok is part of my identitiy as a person! My next video will be about MMOs in general, including Ragnarok, and then there will be a good amount of Ragnarok videos! :)

8:20 yes it is exactly the same, so why the double standard???... humans come first, humans have rights other species and ai dont have... for now, i look forward to a better future where ai and uplifted spiecies has similer human rights... maybe relable it sentient rights... hopefuly a more advanced humanity will be a more empathetic species in a more advanced time for a more intelegent ai.
