Hey. Thanks. That’s exactly what I needed. Made a belt for the wife off of a soft tape around her belt loops. Christmas gift and she says ohh my I need to loose weight from the holidays. So she is determined to fit the belt now. Heading out to build one of those measures belts now.
You have come up with a great method and a grand idea! Now if you could make a generic style to sell to all of the newbies starting in leather hobby. Great idea for all makers
Great info Aaron. My biggest issue with sizing is how to adjust the measurement for the thickness of the leather (not just on belts but anything that needs to fit). Is there any tips or tricks or formulas on how to get the correct length?
OLD Leather Smith here, Excellent Aaron of course I do it the old way by adding 4 inches 2 the belt. I like your way, I will try on next belt. Next belt right now is a Ranger Belt did it old way, and as you know it's a little different. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
Did i miss something here? You talked about measuring from the bendback to the hole most used to find the waist line. But where does the new buckle come into play, how do you figure the length of the buckle into it?
Sup Aaron great video on the leather measuring belt I recently made a leather built watching George Hearst videos and basket stamping and how do use oblong punch and English point and also have to place the holes to the belt it was a very hopeful video just saying Aaron have a great day in the shop Aaron and Jeannie Sue my friends peace out Aaron!🇺🇸
Great video. Problem is it doesn't explain how to measure for a Ranger style belt. I know it's a matter of adding more for the thickness of the leather, but I don't know what that formula is. Please help me. Thank you.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate you doing that. I have always enjoyed watching your videos from which I truly learned a lot. And I look forward to any videos on Ranger belts. By the way, I'm jealous of all those tools I see behind you.😋
This vid is SPOT fkn on…the second method ..that’s how I do it…as far as the measuring belt goes…I had never even THOUGHT of that shizz…cutting one out tomorrrow lol
I have been on the lookout for a nice belt. I am a legal to carry my pistol concealed as i do every day. I'm needing a nice belt that looks like a normal but, is super thick and wide from top to bottem that is rigid so i can have my concealed carry pistol that will give a lot of support to my pistol and holster. Any suggestions??
Great info brother ! I use one and made the mistake of marking the holes, the exact waist size. And EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE always says, "that cant be right, I have always been a size whatever !!! Somewhere along the way, I don't know if you and I were just talking or you did a video about it, but suggested marking the holes with a different number. (i.e. making the first hole at 24 inches, then making a bunch of holes. And marking the first hole, number 1. That way the customer never knew what the size was and didn't debate with you, and you had a good number and you knew the "secret code" to know the true exact size !) I will be making me a new sizing belt using this technique. Cuts down on the size debate with those in denial !! haha
Do you add the same length to the tip (7-8 in) no matter the buckle type? I’ve never made a belt with a custom buckle like what you’ve got and was wondering if it would be the same as a regular buckle?
well, in my country we use the metric system so the customer it will say the waist size, and, i presume that this will be the lenght of the belt from the first whole of the belt to the buckle, where the belt is folded...is that right? forgive my english, is not my first language
Aaaaaright! I quit using my "lie detector" (measuring belt with numbers) and switched to my Alpha-belt (measuring belt with letters). BTW, when I got to Z, I just doubled the letters like AA, BB, CC.....all one inch apart. No one gets offended anymore.😎
I have made a belt since watching your video. Definitely helps with not making a measuring mistake. Thank you sir for the advice
This has been super helpful. I'm so glad I found this video before I made my cousin his belt. So much easier.
The measuring belt. A belt for measuring the length of a belt. Brilliant.
Aussie saddle maker here. This gent is spot on. Customer usually does not know their waist size. I like his measuring belt. very good idea.
LOL 😂 every statement you made referencing measuring … i have fallen for lol.. great tutorial 👍

You are a gentleman and a saint. Thank you for sharing this!
First time I’ve been called either of those! Ha ha ha

Always great to watch your videos ! Cuiouis how to do mesurment for ranger style belts & tapered belts from one and a half down to an inch . .? THANKS
Another person asked about ranger belts too. I’ll look into it, I haven’t made one in a while.
Did i miss something here? You talked about measuring from the bendback to the hole most used to find the waist line. But where does the new buckle come into play, how do you figure the length of the buckle into it?
@harrison87ss if it's a trophy buckle you ask them for the length of that.
Great video gave me a lot of insight thanks and keep them coming, I can use all the help I can get.

I’ll do a separate video on ranger belts, but I haven’t made one in a long time so I’ll have to make a couple to get back in the groove of it.

I forgot to mention that in this video. Huge advantage to having it this way!

Yes, add 5-7 no matter the buckle.
Thank you!

Sounds right to me.
If you're going to measure a waist line using a measuring tape then that applies to the inside measurement of the belt regardless of thickness ...
I understand your meaning here, but as you wrap a heavy belt around a person, that interior length is compressed and shortened.
Who made your custom belt buckle?
I did it
@@makersleathersupply1220 I genuinely envy you, sir.
whats the fold over ? 3" ?
3" is a safe amount.

Love it! I made my first measuring belt last week and used letters too. I'm stealing the name "Alphabelt"!
@@04658IFH great minds think alike! Have fun with it!
