    This lens in good light is suprisingly sharp. In low light it naturally falls apart. I now own three prime lenses but I still have this lens in my kit. I also visited Budapest recently. What a beautiful city...

    Hey Peter, nice work and amazing photos. Needless to say, the color grade you apply is awesome.
    It’s very nice to see such direct to the point video about this kit lenses. They are more than capable to deliver an amazing result if you understand it’s limitations and work around them. Unfortunately most of the reviews out there do not make justice to it and gives that false impression you will need a super-duper lens to get good photos. Thanks for sharing your impressions and chosen settings for each photo you sampled. Love your photography videos vibe…
    Talking about it, any chance to share what background song is playing in this video.
    Keep the good job! Best regards!

      Thank you! I really appreciate. I think there are a lot of underrated gears out there like lenses, cameras, tripods, lights etc... This one can be very useful too up to a certain point. And it's also very cheap. Sure i'll check the song on my PC :) Until then, have a nice day.

      Hi! Thanks, I really appreciate. 🙏☺️ Yes, sometimes during street photography the lighting is not ideal, so I have to adjust a lot in post. And the pictures look garbage, but because of the raw format, I have a lot of flexibility to make it good. Have a nice day mate! 😎

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  Рік тому

      Thanks! Honesty the kit lens is not a perfect lens if we talking about sharpness but it dont bother me at all. I realized that the idea and story behind your images is the King so i dont really care about the sharpness. Anyway if you upload to social media you’ll lose a lot of resolution. But there is some tips: try to go close as possible to your subject and take pictures. If you’re close the details looks better. Or you can use artificial sharpening in your editing software. But i thing one of the best method is when you use correct masking. It will pop your details and subject instantly. 😎👌

    Thanks 😊

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  7 місяців тому

      Hi! Thank you for asking. I think it's not the sharpest knife of the army, so if you expect tech sharp results, I wouldn't recommend this. I would go for a prime, like the sigma trio. 16 f1.4, 30 f1.4 or the 56 f1.4. But honestly I have never cared about the sharpness or aromatic aberration etc.. This lens is not great at sharpness, but it's good enough to make the job done. It's a kit lens, which is 100 dollars if you buy in bundle with the camera for example with an a6400. And it's really small, stabilized, you have some flexibility with some limitations. But for the price, I think it could be used in a lot of situations. I think vloggers could enjoy it the most, because of the compact form factor, wide field of view and stabilization. For traveling, it could be ok. You could literally put the camera into your pocket. Have a nice day!

I recommend to have it, because for this price you'll get versatility. As i mentioned, i think it's not the easiest lens, but with practice you can do great results too. I bought it with my a6400. So for first lens for this price is a nobrainer. i'll do some comparison between cameras and lenses too. The sigma 16mm and the 16-50mm kit lens is an interesting subject. Have a nice day! ✌

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  Рік тому

      The autofocus is ok. I've never had any issues with that, But if you go for weddings i recommend more a prime lens like the sony 35mm F1.8 OSS . If i have to go with one lens, i'll pick the 35mm for weddings, The bokeh is really good, the faces looks so good, good in low light, it's a little bit tight, but you can zoom in or out with your legs. Or if you would like to go a little bit wider, i can recommend the new sigma 23mm f1.4 geni.us/TuyrtuN . I would not go for weddings with the 16-50, its not bad for traveling and vlogging and something like that, but it doesn''t have that "magic" in it. So i like to use other primes for weddings.

    Thinkin to buy this little camera for $800(used) with 2 lenses: kit and 50mm F1.8

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! I really appreciate! 🙏 If you jump into the camera world, you have to make your choice. If you go with a brand and thinking further there is a chance you want to go with bigger bodies later. I picked sony, cause those cameras and lenses gives me the best value over all. And once I invest my money to a brand, changing to an other brand is a pain in the ass. I like sony, cause they have a great lineup of cameras and lenses, even third party lenses for cheap. I would make my choice depends of the ecosystem and not because of the cameras, they are kind the same capabilities, there are only minor differences in my opinion. I would go with the sony, cause I like more that ecosystem, but in the end all those are great cameras.
      I think the kit lens and the 50mm f1.8 is a great combo, because you can use the kit lens as a wide angle lens and making some closeups and portraits with great bokeh and background separation with the 50mm at 1.8. It gives you a lot of flexibility.
      I hope it could help you. Have a nice day mate! 🙌

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  Рік тому +1

      Hi! I happy to hear that. I think it's a great camera. If you're on Manual mode, you have to set the lens aperture, i recommend to set it to the widest state and leave there (in the kit lens it's 3.5), you can set it with the biggest dial on the top of the right. and you have to set the shutter speed. The shutter speed and the aperture and the iso affects the exposure in your image. Usually i dont go under 1/100 in my shutter speed, the aperture is ok in 3.5 and the iso can be in the 100-3200 range. It can help you to correct the exposure. But keep in mind, if you go up with your iso, the image starts to be noisy. So First try to go down with the shutter speed around 1/100 up to 1/4000 ,than if the picture is still dark, go up with the iso up to 3200. But i'll make a guide how to setup the exposure with this camera. If you have some questions, you can feel free to ask me. Have a nice day bro 😎

    Don't criticise me but, I want people to see what I see in a scenery.. that's why I never colour grade my pictures.. and tbh my father taught me (he's a professional photographer) " If you have to edit a picture. That's not a great picture "

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  6 місяців тому +14

      Thank you for sharing! I think its a deeper topic than if you have to edit than it's not a great picture. This is too general and not true in all cases. And also I think it's mainly a matter of preference. I enjoy talking to someone who has a completely different opinion than me. This is how we can develop and learn from each other. I think whether or not you need to edit depends a lot on what you're shooting. For example: In a good studio with great lights, the editing maybe not nessesery, but I'm a run and gun filmmaker and photographer and most of the time i try to make footage on streets where the conditions is not ideal. Suddenly a cloud covers the sun...etc. In this case, just because i couldn't shoot in proper conditions, my image is bad? Without seeing it, even if the result looks stunning? This is a strong judgment of another person's work. Otherways no camera could capture what you see. It's all about pixels and color science and there is a chance that camera engineers made the color science different than what my eyes see. That's why all camera's color science is different. Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Sony, Blackmagic, Red..etc. Even if you shoot with analog film, it's just chemicals, which could cause completly different colors than in the reality, not to mention the artifats which usually shown on analog pictures. Also your eyes has much more dynamic range than your camera. So if we start from here, your image is not the same as it was in the real life. :) and there are a lot of reasons why you should edit the photos. 1) You could expand the camera dynamic range. With RAW images, i could pull up informations from the dark or from the brightest part. So it will be closer to what you see in real life. What about if you shoot out from a dark place for example from a room. You have to choose which side should be visible, the bright side or the shadows. You have to merge multiple layers together to make a picture which is closer to reality. It's also looks bad without editing 2) It could be a stylistic choice. For example: I would like to show muted colors to represent a feeling. Colorgrade could help me with that. I could harmonize the colors with each other. You can see in movies that they manipulate the colors, the lighting, etc.. because they want to show a feeling. That's why colorist as a profession exist. Everybody would be really sad, if they favorite movies was published without colorgrade, as it came out of the camera. So my friend, we're not the same and it's not a problem :) I could say 1000 reasons why i edit my pictures and you can say 1000 why you're not. This is more a preference thing than a "holy rule". However, I agree that you should try to make your image look good in the first place before any kind of editing, if this can be done.

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  Рік тому +1

      I never use auto iso. I used Aperture prioritás mode on my camera. Its a big A on the mode dial. If you set the iso and the Aperture it automatically adjust the shutter speed depends on the lights there. With the kit lens this mode can be handy, cause if you Zoom with the kit lens the image becomes darker.

    1/1250 seems pretty excessive for shooting inanimate objects, wouldn't you rather bring that ISO down to 100?

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  3 місяці тому +1

      Thank you for asking! I'm not shooting 1/1250 because of the inanimate objects. I'm shooting this way because i'm moving all the time and usually i have to react quick. Otherways sometimes i found intresting subjects and i dont have enough time to scroll up my shutter. Than i leave it there. Thats why i shoot around 400 iso. It lifts the overall brightness and i could focus more to my subject. I never shoot in ISO 100. with 400 iso i'm so much flexible. And otherways ISO 100 is too clinical and clean to me. It's just street photography, it doesn't have to be perfect.

    Why so fast shutter ?

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  10 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for asking! Because i dont use nd filters for photography and the exposure was high. Anyway the kit lens has variable aperture so if i set a little bit higher ISO, i could adjust the shutter quicker than set the iso and correct the shutter every time when i Zoom. I can miss the moment. So i use higher iso with higher shutter speed. The other reason is that i dont like blurry images and in the street sometimes i have to be quick so the higher shutter speed can help me out.

    • @bobar84c
      @bobar84c 10 місяців тому +1

      Since there is plenty of light you could use ISO100? You were shooting in manual here? Thx for response. @@petersroom

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  10 місяців тому +1

      @@bobar84c Usually, yes. I go with manual settings, but here I went with the Aperture priority mode too. I hate correcting the exposure because of the variable aperture. Sometimes there was a plenty of light, sometimes the sky becomes darker and when you zoom the widest aperture is f5.6 which makes the whole image darker again, so my solution was the higher iso and just cranking up and down the shutter.

    Do u think a6400 recommended to buy dis year? If i dont have budget to buy expensive camera?

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  10 місяців тому +3

      Thank you for asking! I think there are 2 cameras In this price range which is good for beginners. 1) a6400 2) zv-e10. Those two are almost the same. The a6400 has a little bit professional body with customizable buttons, the zv-e10 has some newer functions implemented in the video part and it has flip out screen. But I could recommend both, their sensors are the same. It's perfect who has just jumped in into the sony world. I know there are newer bodies like the a6700 or the fx30, but I think it's an other level again. Great features, but I think at first you don't need all of the fancy stuff for more than 2x price tag. I'm very happy with my a6400, it's a very good camera. So if you ask me which camera is the perfect budget sony starter camera I would pick a6400 / zv-e10 again. Maybe if you're more in the photo side I recommend the a6400 and if the video is more important for you I would pick the zv-e10. If you have some questions, feel free to ask my friend. Have a nice day. :)
