The special thing about Horween is that they are masters at staining leathers as opposed to painting leathers because that was the traditional definition of quality. They've only recently gone into painting leathers with the Arabica Lux line to accommodate the denim and leather jacket community. I'm just paraphrasing what Skip Horween explains about "teacore" in an Ashland leather video. My two favourites in this roundup are the Colour 4 and Novapel boots. The other colours look muted to me.
the rumor you heard about SHELL CORDOVAN TOSCANA ITALIA and ROCADO srl is correct, I have actually asked the question last year, and Roberto from ROCADO srl has clarified for me, ROCADO is the tannery that produces the shell cordovan, and SHELL CORDOVAN TOSCANA ITALIA used to be one of their resellers
Where do you suggest to source shell from...as I have seen Shell Cordovan company gives best value... and how much of sq.ft will I be requiring for making a 41eu size shoes (penny loafer).
I’m not a shoemaker. The shell cordovan brand I’ve seen is the lowest quality of all the shell in my collection, but as I said in the tannery video it’s not always a function of the tannery as tanneries all produce a variety of shell. You need to find the best pieces you can for the purpose. Some shell is so thin it’s better suited to a card wallet that doesn’t bend.
I think the fit on the chukka contributes to the rolls. It doesn’t fit like other chukkas. But the shell feels and looks like other shell. I think Maryam makes a good product.
Great shoe collection. What’s your take on Maryam shell? I have a pair of Yanko NST boots in shell cognac from Maryam and they are very nice. Seems to glow when in direct sunlight.
Maryam definitely appears to be good shell and has the inner shine we look for in all shell. The way mine were dyed gives them an electric color which I really like.
@@wishoeguy my strands from the last trunk show are doing this across the vamp... They're beautiful shies, and while this concerned me, this video reassures me that they'll be fine.
May I ask what shoe last gives that shape/style of the first boot in chilli you picked up? I really love that shape of the tip. The captoe is perfect for me as well. Would be great if you/someone here know the last or some brand making shoes with that shape. Thank you.
74945 last from Enzo Bonafe. If you look at my Enzo playlist you’ll see a few shoes in this last. I bought these from Solegarb. Lorenzo is very familiar with this last.
@@wishoeguy Looks like Enzo Bonafe website is not a online shopping site. I'm looking for a pair of dress shoes in exact same shape as the Ballway boots you reviewed. Love to have your advices/recommendations.
Very nice shoe collection and extensive knowledge. Thanks for the video.

Which shell is long lasting and does not scratch easily?
They all are long lasting. Scratching happens but with deer bone and vsc I can make most scratches disappear.
LoL..."No horses' butts the same." Comment about thickness of shell cordovan. Thanks for the good laugh.

@@wishoeguy How was your experience with maryam I feel like the roll on these blue chukka is kind of weird but maybe it's something with pictures

The shell does seem very nice. One day I’ll treat myself to a pair made from Horween. Yes, the blue look fantastic.
The creasing property is news to me... So based on the fiber direction and construction relative to the fiber direction there can be creasing?
I think it has more to due with thickness. Some argue the quality of the tannage but I’ve only seen it this once.
