To be a kid again. This music makes me feel so sad that my childhood has disappeared, people have died, jobs come and go, responsibilities emerge. So depressing how I used to hide under the covers playing Crystal late into the night.
We went under the covers after we were told to go the fuck to bed lol. I miss it too bro. I'll never forget the exchange from Blue/Red/Yellow to Gold/Silver/Crystal. Day to Night, setting the days correctly so I could rush from New Bark Town to the Bug Catching Contest to catch my buddies Gastly (Haunter) & Scyther. Crystal is still my favourite out of them all simply because it was so unique. Johto to Kanto was the ultimate nostalgia for me.

The thing about playing these games as a kid was that anything was possible, we didn't know about gaming conventions or limitations, as far as we were concerned the next town could hold adventures in sunken caves or tall towers and we could never see the end until we were there, fighting it out. I don't know why but the world in this game feels more mysterious and interesting than the newer ones. The newer ones feels so modern and it's like everything is right in front of you. This feels like you're far off in some exclusive place away from everything.
And that's why gen 2 is my favorite, travelling through Johto and Kanto is a great adventure every time, and every cities and towns have their goal, it's not like those empty cities in the newer game where you don't get back at all :(
The 8 and 16 bit era was all about using your imagination. Since many things weren't able to be depicted due to technical limits, many things were left implied which made things seem mysterious. Especially as a kid.

That's because of one reason. No Meta. If you wanted a spoiler, you either had to have a friend who played more then you. Or, you had to do a refined search. Which encouraged you to learn your own routes and explore.
Gold was my first Pokemon game. This music makes me so nostalgic. I still remember my totodile evolving into croconaw in the route just east of Azalea Town and being so surprised because, well, it was the first Pokemon of mine to ever evolve. I miss seeing everything for the first time.
I hope kids today are able to experience the same joy and pride that our older generation was able to by growing up with these games. The feeling of satisfaction you get from creating your prized Pokemon team is really like no other. YOU caught these Pokemon, YOU trained them, and YOU brought them all together. No one could take it away from you and it was tremendous for a child to feel so capable and competent. Even though it's just a game, I wouldn't be who I am today without this Pokemon.

My neighbor's car was running as chunky as ever. Fifteen years and it still stews!
I love how this track feels like relief. You've just trudged your way through a long route, and made it through Union Cave, and there's a lovely break waiting for you on the other end.

I got into Pokemon games really around the age of 8. My sister's boyfriend had found an emulator online, and introduced me to them. Well, Silver or Crystal was always one that I played, and I remember rushing home from school just to play this work of art. I'd spend hours on the computer, leveling up my Mareep to a Ampharos in the long run, going through Olivine city and fishing, or listening to Ecruteak's awesome soundtracks. But this track..I remember distinctly thinking to myself, back in 2009, "In 20 years, nobody's going to remember this music. And that makes me really sad". Well, I'm glad people remember it. Thank you, everyone.

I appreciate them for being the last games that didn't think you needed to be handed over the HM's as though you couldn't be expected to figure out which NPCs and locations you needed to go to. Sure, back then I was frustrated when I couldn't remember a specific NPC or location, but at least these games weren't afraid to let you figure things out on your own. And didn't force you to go to x location for the box art legendaries. Ho oh, Lugia, the legendary hounds, all being completely optional was great! That gave me an incentive to keep playing the game(s).
Aw, the good old times. I remember my old Silver file, my Quilava, Flaaffy, Quagsire, Gastly, Sudowoodo, and the Eevee I was training into Espeon/Umbreon . . . . those were good times, until my save file became corrupted . . . . This music makes me shed a tear, remembering all those good times, riding around and training up my Eevee and Barbara the Beedrill. I guess, you never really notice the best times of life until they're gone . . . .
I also had an Umbreon on my team. I had it in my party all the time everywhere I go, every gym and trainer I fought, even all the way to the elite four and beyond.. exploring every corner of Johto and Kanto. sigh I wish I could go back to those days

Bizarrely, these towns and music and gyms and gym leaders from these old games all have flavours to me. I can taste the unique blend of excitement and mystery from this town. I think its because I played these games so young when I was a kid, and was most likely slightly synesthesic at that age.
Ahh yes, the times of playing Pokémon Crystal. In that Slowpoke well/cave is where I caught my first EVER shiny. It was of course a Slowpoke, and it was the absolute star of my team as a Slowbro. Such a powerful Pokémon too. The nostalgia hits hard, and I for one have always aspired to keep my inner child alive and happy. I turned 31 this year, and I have to say I have no shame in living my life the way I want to. I hope all of you reading this find the capacity to be kind to yourselves and to make room in your lives for the things that make you truly happy, whatever they may be; and to remove as much of the unnecessary negativity in your lives as possible!

I think I especially like Gen 2 for its ''layed-back nature''/''mystery'' theme and Gen 3 for its ''seaside shenanigans''/''land Vs. sea'' theme respectively. Some people hate on Gen 2 for some reason, but I think it's a great evolution (see what I did there) of the Pokémon series in general.

i’m 13. a nintendo kid, always was. got slowly introduced to pokemon around age 9 (was always familiar with the franchise, tho never interested) i eventually wanted to give it a try and bought crystal on my beat up 3ds. best decision ever honestly, i was hooked for weeks on the game. eventually had to evacuate for a hurricane and i played it for countless hours a day at my grandma’s house, always listened to pokemon music while doing my homework. remember leaving azalea town playing on my 3ds constantly. will forever be my favorite town, bugsy being my favorite gym leader too. cry everytime i listen to this.. oh to be a kid again, right? :’)
True. Your first time is probably the best time. Our first times playing Pokemon was when we were kids. These memories are so beautiful. I'm thankful that Pokemon was brought to Canada all the way from Japan.
I have to say it, this is the best generation in my opinion. Just... the feeling of adventure you get, the layouts, the "story"... I didn't even play this until about 2008. It's my favorite (Crystal anyways,) and always will be.
My game had a glitch (or bug ?) back then that fast forwarded my time by 1 day when (iirc) used Fly, entered a door or pressed Start. So once I exit Kurt's house and entered the balls were always ready, It also helped with the Radio Tower shows. :T
DIO's Scary Monster and THE WORLD I had the same bug, where I just entered my pokegear changed to town map tab and then back to clock/date tab and the day would change :)
The problem is that when your game battery runs dry, usually after arround 10 years, the time based events will stop working: that includes Kurt's balls, berries, day/night cycle etc. And then after sometime, the inevitable corrupted save file: aka all your progress is forever lost. Good thing pokemon games since gen 4 (DS) don't use internal batteries
Karlo Kruško Yep that's the one. Made the legendary dogs a bitch to catch though because if you enter and exit your map screen it counts as a day cycle and if you enter it again the dogs are in a farther place.

I just started playing crystal on my 3ds. I played red yellow and blue as a kid but never this game. Even though I’m older now and have no memories attached to this game I still felt something like nostalgia when I entered this town. I can’t explain it.
The whole soundtrack is great, but no other song really holds this much emotion and nostalgia. Something about those chords and the expression of that lead line...man, can't get enough of this one.
I've recently gone back to SoulSilver. As much as I like the improvements and new additions, I'm still bothered that there are more points now in the remake where NPCs stop you from progressing because the developers thought dumping exposition and force you to go somewhere happens to a greater extent than the originals, even more than Crystal which was the more story focused version of the 3 generation 2 games. This makes me appreciate the original Gold and Silver versions for not holding your hand so much (just giving you the HM's like they were candy) and not telling/forcing you to go somewhere because apparently letting people figure out where to go by themselves was "too difficult". Lugia, Ho oh and the other legendaries being an optional bonus was better than the game forcing you to get them.

I’m now 19 years old and those beautiful memories still inside my head and everytime i remember i always cry how much i struggle face blue tht time and remember my big sis gave me her old game since i rlly love play pokemon and she gave me a older generation of pokemon. Tht’s make me happy i can feels how it is play a pokemon before i get my first ds and play gen 4 and 5. At least i can see the difference between how it looks like between gen 2 and 4 between the original beautiful story and painful way to find 3 beast. Will always in my mind abt gen 2. Those struggle we face to find Raikou and Entei it’s unreplacable while in gen 4 they make it easier find raikou and entei but the differences is they won’t open bell tower until we find rainbow wing and find suicune at kanto. The differences between hard level between every gen make it different. Those struggle we get in older gen is wht makes those memory i get from gen 2 much more meaningful then gen 4🤧

Bizarrely, these towns and music and gyms and gym leaders from these old games all have flavours to me. I can taste the unique blend of excitement and mystery from this town. I think its because I played these games so young when I was a kid, and was most likely slightly synesthesic at that age.

Ahh yes, the times of playing Pokémon Crystal. In that Slowpoke well/cave is where I caught my first EVER shiny. It was of course a Slowpoke, and it was the absolute star of my team as a Slowbro. Such a powerful Pokémon too. The nostalgia hits hard, and I for one have always aspired to keep my inner child alive and happy. I turned 31 this year, and I have to say I have no shame in living my life the way I want to. I hope all of you reading this find the capacity to be kind to yourselves and to make room in your lives for the things that make you truly happy, whatever they may be; and to remove as much of the unnecessary negativity in your lives as possible!
It's weird to think, this little digital world on a cartridge had such a profound impact on me. And stranger still to know that this little digital world where I used to roam will still be there long after I'm gone.

I think I especially like Gen 2 for its ''layed-back nature''/''mystery'' theme and Gen 3 for its ''seaside shenanigans''/''land Vs. sea'' theme respectively. Some people hate on Gen 2 for some reason, but I think it's a great evolution (see what I did there) of the Pokémon series in general.

I wasn't talking about that. I'm 17 and I still play it! But it's not the same you know? As a child, Pokemon was the greatest thing ever, me and my friends and nephews always played it together, watched the series together. And now, I feel so nostalgic because of all that ;_;

i’m 13. a nintendo kid, always was. got slowly introduced to pokemon around age 9 (was always familiar with the franchise, tho never interested) i eventually wanted to give it a try and bought crystal on my beat up 3ds. best decision ever honestly, i was hooked for weeks on the game. eventually had to evacuate for a hurricane and i played it for countless hours a day at my grandma’s house, always listened to pokemon music while doing my homework. remember leaving azalea town playing on my 3ds constantly. will forever be my favorite town, bugsy being my favorite gym leader too. cry everytime i listen to this.. oh to be a kid again, right? :’)

True. Your first time is probably the best time. Our first times playing Pokemon was when we were kids. These memories are so beautiful. I'm thankful that Pokemon was brought to Canada all the way from Japan.

I have to say it, this is the best generation in my opinion. Just... the feeling of adventure you get, the layouts, the "story"... I didn't even play this until about 2008. It's my favorite (Crystal anyways,) and always will be.

KURT IS NEVER DONE WITH MY POKEBALLS FUCK
My game had a glitch (or bug ?) back then that fast forwarded my time by 1 day when (iirc) used Fly, entered a door or pressed Start. So once I exit Kurt's house and entered the balls were always ready, It also helped with the Radio Tower shows. :T
DIO's Scary Monster and THE WORLD I had the same bug, where I just entered my pokegear changed to town map tab and then back to clock/date tab and the day would change :)
The problem is that when your game battery runs dry, usually after arround 10 years, the time based events will stop working: that includes Kurt's balls, berries, day/night cycle etc. And then after sometime, the inevitable corrupted save file: aka all your progress is forever lost. Good thing pokemon games since gen 4 (DS) don't use internal batteries

Yep that's the one. Made the legendary dogs a bitch to catch though because if you enter and exit your map screen it counts as a day cycle and if you enter it again the dogs are in a farther place.

I just started playing crystal on my 3ds. I played red yellow and blue as a kid but never this game. Even though I’m older now and have no memories attached to this game I still felt something like nostalgia when I entered this town. I can’t explain it.

I've recently gone back to SoulSilver. As much as I like the improvements and new additions, I'm still bothered that there are more points now in the remake where NPCs stop you from progressing because the developers thought dumping exposition and force you to go somewhere happens to a greater extent than the originals, even more than Crystal which was the more story focused version of the 3 generation 2 games. This makes me appreciate the original Gold and Silver versions for not holding your hand so much (just giving you the HM's like they were candy) and not telling/forcing you to go somewhere because apparently letting people figure out where to go by themselves was "too difficult". Lugia, Ho oh and the other legendaries being an optional bonus was better than the game forcing you to get them.
