- Hey guys, thank you so much for stopping by my channel - I truly appreciate it! In this video I am sharing my walk in master closet DIY makeover transformation and organization using the Ikea Algot closet system. This is episode 4 part 2 of my Closet Diaries series here on UA-cam. The first part consisted of my boyfriend and I completely emptying out and decluttering the closet Konmari style. Now in this second part you will see me tear out all the existing built in shelves and patching / sanding the drywall to start with a clean slate. I painted the entire interior of the closet a neutral gray. Then I share my tips on how to quickly and successfully install the Ikea Algot closet system. This is the third closet in this house and the fourth closet I've remodeled using the Ikea Algot closet system. I love how budget friendly, customizable, and DIY friendly this system is. After the new closet interior is completed, I then show you guys how I organized and put all our clothes and items in the new closet.

Great JOB! It helps to go use a utility knife to cut around the boards, so it does not pull off the paint and drywall.
Love your closet make over. If you still want a door you can always used your old door as a barn door with beautiful black hardware.

Hi! Great job! I find the door to my walk in gets in the way also so I'm considering a sliding barn door on the outside. If you have the wall space that might work for yours as well. Thanks for a great video.

Not sure if work for everyone but I usually store my smaller suitcase inside my bigger suitcase to save some space and make it more visually appealing

Cut the paint along the wood being removed before starting. You can put a thin piece of wood behind the hammer head to help prevent gouges in the drywall while prying wood off.
My dad has since told me the same exact thing! 😂 Thank you!! 💙

You said that you struggle with the patching and wouldn't mind a couple helpful hints.
A couple hints that will make your patching easier: 1st, Take a utility knife and score/cut the edges where the paint touches the item you are removing (board) this will stop the ripping of the drywall paper.
2nd, If you take a ball peen hammer and place the peen (ball) of the hammer over the removed screw or nail and then lightly tap the other end of the hammer with another hammer so that you indent the screw or nail hole. This makes a slight dent in the drywall for patching compound to set in and makes the patch smoother.
I hope this helps your "fixing" so that you can get to the remaking phase faster.

I’m doing this in my closet because it’s literally the smallest thing ever and I really have to be strategic about the space in order to maximize it. I’m kind of sad they got rid of the Algot because they had the option for deeper mesh drawers on the Algot but the Boaxel will still work.

Hey DIY friends! I've been getting a lot of the same questions about a few more closet details so here is some extra info! 💙
My closet measures *approximately 6ft x 6ft* . _Yes I am American, and yes Americans have unnecessarily big houses / closets and too much $h!t._ 🙂
I don't remember the exact pricing for the closet, but I believe all the parts and pieces cost around $200 USD. Very budget friendly option for a built in walk in closet. It's been over a year since I've installed it now and it's held up great.
The Ikea Algot system has now been replaced by the new Boaxel system. Want to plan out your own closet?

The color of my closet walls is called Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams.
As far as folding goes - try folding your items into thirds rather than halves, and they will be able to stand up in the drawers better.
