Fact: Thomas Whitmore's participation in the final battle against the aliens would have been the first U.S. commander-in-chief to lead troops into combat since James Madison took command of a rearguard artillery battery to cover the retreat of the U.S. Army during the British attack on Washington, DC, in 1814.

I recall seeing shots of the film while on a family road trip in 2000, then we stopped at a Pizza Hut and I saw some off-duty soldiers in camo fatigues playing the Area 51 Site 4 game. I briefly wondered if some alien invasion had, in fact, occurred.

Little did we know back then, that the aliens where simply trying to spare the universe from the impending release of the movie, Batman and Robin, only a year later.
“Y'know, this was supposed to be my weekend off, but noooo. You got me out here draggin' your heavy ass through the burnin' desert with your dreadlocks stickin' out the back of my parachute. You gotta come down here with an attitude, actin' all big and bad... and what the hell is that smell?! I could've been at a barbecue! But I ain't mad.”
After the movie came on 6 times the other day, I realized the original plot of the Harvesters was far better than their motives in ID4-2. In the original movie, they were after the entire planet, colonizers who basically wrecked the planet, bleeding it dry of everything, then moving on, that's why they wanted an Earth like planet because they were out to live here even if it was only temporarily. In the second movie, they wanted to steal Earth's core which makes no since whatsoever. All the materials in the core can be found in space far easier, and cheaper, and even if that is what they wanted, with their shields they could have landed one ship, got the core and left. It would have taken nearly half as long and required none of the vulnerabilities a full scale, long term assault opened them up too.
Haven’t hammers he’d the sequel, but I’d assume that harvesting the core would be the last thing the Harvesters did after everything else on the planet was bled dry?
@@UGNAvalon if that where it was it will have been fine but in the second its told that they where already preparing and mining the core when the first ship arrived they could have done so much better if they wanted like said that they where searching for carbon like lifeform since there called the Harvester but nah that just because they want to harvest the core
I am not defending ID4-2, but perhaps the purpose of stealing the molten core of Earth was to make the planet useless for maintaining life in a way of revenge for the 1996 mothership being destroyed?
The intention of bleeding the planet dry was to kill all intelligent life on the planet to stop any form of resistance. The real goal is whatever resources the planet has. In the first movie, we as humans are of course the dominant species; and we also gathered in mostly large metropolitan areas. That's the bleeding-them-out-dry tactic the aliens are using - killing an 'invasive' species inside their own hive. In the second movie, the aliens actually multiplied this attack by a billion. Their goals are no different, just executed with more efficient methods. The aliens actually went for ALL LIFE on earth this time - using anti-gravity weapons to rip apart whatever existed on the planet's surface, to yes, extracting the planet's core. We humans of course call this planet home, so the aliens decided to do the whole planet in a single attack the same way they did the big cities dozens of times. Now if you still insist that end goals for the aliens are different in the second movie, its possible Whitmore's speech was taken as a declaration of war (which can be presumed at the start of Resurgence). So if this is true, the aliens may have been hellbent on destroying humanity, and that's why they sent a ship that could rip apart a planet's crust and extract its core at the same time. Solid argument if you ask me.
Man I am soo hyped for this I hope they will make a documentary upload about this alien *Locust* Maybe with an additional episode about the D9 Poleepkwa Prawns
As a commersial for that movie, they made a website with lore of what happend between movies. How the world tebuilt and united. How on craft landed in kongo. How Kongo had to fight its own war. Was cool stuff, site is no longer there

I know the Sequel wasn’t as good but we need an Independence Day 3. The movie was left on a painful cliffhanger! I want to see the humans achieve Interstellar travel and fight the Harvesters in epic space battles with other alien species on new planets!
@@hopbattlesocc7009 for real though. I had such high hopes for the second one, thought it could become a cool trilogy. But just wait, Hollywood will wait until the nostalgia of the first movie overcomes the stain of the second and produce a third.

That's the thing about using nukes against aliens that I've noticed: they use only one, when it very likely requires multiple impacts to crack them and bring them down for good. If they had boomers to spare, they should've used the MIRV warheads aboard rather than an air-launched missile.
@@jimmyseaver3647 i think the logic is they dont want to spam them unless they have to cause radiation sucks atleast untill they discover how to negate like in halo most of there nukes turn almost all there energy into heat and shockwabes
Problem is, nukes need their electronics and mechanisms intact to go off. They aren't passively explosive like a lot of explosives. And since a nuke going off tends to be rather hard on nearby electronics and mechanisms, that makes strikes with multiple nukes kind of difficult.
@Chris George I live in Texas. At the point in the story the fallout was the least of the worries, most of the citizens had evacuated. Alternatively 2 to 3 EMP bombs followed by Bumkerbusters and Thermobaric Warheads would also achieve roughly the same thing.
I miss your old narrator, she was great. I'm still not sure about the new guy but he did a great job with this video. I would like to see more videos about halo like the ODST's, or Cortana. Or maybe a video about The War of the Five Kings
I didn't realize how heavily they played on the whole "Independance Day" thing. The whole speech on the 4th I caught but 1996? How perfect, exactly 220 years after the signing. Also, where's that dot in the northwest of America on the map of the first strikes supposed to be? I cant think of any large city in that area but Seattle. But the dots way too far north. Are they hitting Blaine? Second ones obviously Seattle.
It’s funny but I was thinking about the sequel, and when I remembered Alternate History Hub’s take on what the aftermath would be of this film, it got me thinking on how the sequel could have been done. Making a much different film than the original, but also creating something a little more realistic and darker. In the film it states that three billion people died and as the world population was around five billion in the 90’s, give or take, so three fifths of the global population was wiped out, and according to the official website 108 cities were destroyed. The aftermath of the initial invasion would have been not so much grandiose victory but rather relief for having just survived, but it would also be short lived. With so much of the population gone the economy would be ripped apart, what’s left of government would have a huge pile of issues. There would be millions wounded, sick, homeless, and orphaned, all who need help that the authorities would simply lack the resources to provide, and global trade would’ve frozen dead. At best society would come to a standstill, at worst it would suffer a total collapse, and everything would be about survival. We’re talking a post-apocalyptic scenario here but not to the same level as the Walking Dead. Humanity would be less united than ever before, unlike in the canon sequel. The United States would still exist in theory, but in practice it would be more independent states governing themselves and trading and maybe even fighting each other for resources. In urban centers across the globe riots would break out over supplies. Rural areas would be the most stable, but the large cities that are left would be dens of corruption and chaos, and with no means to efficiently police them criminal organizations would explode out of control. Then there’s the issue of the alien survivors from the initial attack, with their mother ship gone, which was their whole civilization, the invaders left would be desperate. Realizing that their only hope would be to make our planet theirs, colonizing earth rather than harvesting it would become their goal. Only this time they would lack the means to come in and kick ass, and the resulting conflict would be fought between the remnants of two civilizations, each in a frantic and much more equal struggle for survival, with both having as much to lose as the other. So, the sequel in this scenario would be a much more up-close, down, and dirty battle that would have none of the city destroying spectacle of the first film, and a more claustrophobic, gritty, and frightening story.

I remember that I was 5 years old when this happened. Unable to remember if I ever seen it in the cinemas but in the words of Will Smith “now that’s what I call a close encounter”
I recall seeing shots of the film while on a family road trip in 2000, then we stopped at a Pizza Hut and I saw some off-duty soldiers in camo fatigues playing the Area 51 Site 4 game. I briefly wondered if some alien invasion had, in fact, occurred.
New Zealand: Ok I just went to the bathroom so- OMG WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?!
"Something you want to add to this briefing, Capt. Hiller?"
"No, sir. Just a little anxious to get up there and whoop E.T.'s ass, that's all."
Also like to see the Templin Institute investigate other organizations like the Umbrella Corporation (Resident Evil), Cyberdyne Systems (Terminator), or my personal favourite International Rescue (Thunderbirds).
Damn haven't heard the name "international rescue" in a long time. Loved Thunder Birds as a kid and I too would love to see Templin do a video on them
I totally agree. As much as I enjoy the 2015 reboot, the lore behind the original series is more fleshed out, and I believe that warrants Templin to investigate.
I work at the decommissioned El Toro airfield sometimes, the munitions building has been converted into a food bank. I thought it was kinda cool to see my city get attacked by aliens, even though it was only the base. For whatever reason the movie had the base in the middle of the desert instead of the middle of densely populated Southern California

Now that’s what I call a “close encounter”. 👽
I read somewhere that the Harvesters came for the core in the sequel was partly out of revenge for the first invasion being repelled off.
Man I am soo hyped for this
I hope they will make a documentary upload about this alien *Locust*
Maybe with an additional episode about the D9 Poleepkwa Prawns

@@hopbattlesocc7009 for real though. I had such high hopes for the second one, thought it could become a cool trilogy. But just wait, Hollywood will wait until the nostalgia of the first movie overcomes the stain of the second and produce a third.
I agree that the sequel wasn't as good but I still enjoyed it. In 96 they awed us with city-sized saucers and they did it again with one the size of a continent! 6:37 That is because they used only One warhead, to crack a shield you need at least Three waves.
@@jimmyseaver3647 If not nukes a couple of EMP's and a few Bumkerbusters and Thermobaric bombs.

At the point in the story the fallout was the least of the worries, most of the citizens had evacuated.

nothing a 90s computer couldn't fix
Ngl I definitely would like to see what other nations’ perspectives like the European theatre and the Asiatic theatre be like.
This is a cool unique video. I like how it's done. Subbed for more.
