um.. sorry to bother but when I try to do that everything just turns red and it says that I can't do it on this version of harlow or something
Eyo.
That is because this uses the Sugarcube language. I probably should have mentioned in the description. I mentioned it in the video, but I know that people skip through and/or mute tutorials. (I do the same).
Any code you see with > is Sugarcube. You can change from Harlowe to Sugarcube in the story settings. If your not doing a simple game, or really need images and sounds, I highly recommend doing this as soon as possible. I spent a good 6 or 7 hours trying to get Images and Sounds to work in Harlowe and it either didn't work or was so long-winded, it wasn't worth it.
The ethos I used a lot in this series is:
If you're making a simple IF game, Harlowe is perfect.
If you're making a more complex IF game with RPG-like elements, or a DnD-style game, Sugarcube is the way to go.
Hope this helped!
Does this tutorial works with video? like .mp4?
I never tried that, my apologies! There's a chance it will, as you're effectively making a canvas for a "picture" to be in. So I'd give it a go, and see what happens.
Oh, and report the results! Would be super cool to hear your findings :)
@@Zoroarrkk sorry but for some reason I can't even make the images appear. I do exactly like in the video and what the html says but the image appears as non existence.
Hmm, odd. There's a chance twine has been updated, breaking it, but I doubt it. Are you using Sugarcube?
@@Zoroarrkk yes
Huh. Strange. If you want, feel free to send me your HTML to my DMs on Twitter ( @Liam__Gregory). Probably won't get to it tomorrow (well, today), but should on Sunday :)
Hey @Zoroarrkk ! I am grateful for the videos on Twine & Inform. Would it be alright if I bothered you a bit about the same. How do you compare Twine with Inform for a specific application that I have ? I am an Developer/Educator who wants to use IF for education.
The interactive elements happen to create an opportunity for better learning outcomes. The narrative/story can be used to expose valuable information in an engaging manner. The choices can be linked to the information or to be precise, how well you have understood and connected the information. If you succeed, you proceed to next level of education ( the successful story line ). If you fail, you should be allowed to start the story from the previous level point. Also, if we are able to build a digital library of sorts which captures information gathered so far in a concise manner, we can provide a resource for reference.
If the above abstraction were to be used as a framework for a game, which app do you believe would suit the needs better? Thanks
Out of the two, I will always say Twine. It is much easier to use and understand compared to Inform. Inform has its uses, so I always recommend trying both, but if you don't have the luxury of time, I'd say Twine :)
@@Zoroarrkk Thanks a ton!
No issues. Good luck!
