Buckethead playing Big Sur Moon at Rock In Rio. The track that plays while he's doing his nunchuk thang is Tipper - Twister (Hybrid AD Twisted Remix) (courtesy of +BobberBrad)
@@rhgamecock1 I couldn’t hear it either and I even tried using my studio headset and it was still raspy, idk what you’re on about, bad sound quality must be good to you?
"He's brilliant; I love him. But then you see some guy like Buckethead… Buckethead is probably twice as good a guitar player as me and Slash combined, and can stand having fried chicken rubbed up against his face all night for a couple of hours." ~Dave Mustaine.
If you explained this after the concert people would have thought you were on acid.."A man in a jumpsuit with a kabookie mask and kfc bucket on his head was doing the robot with nunchucks, then he played the greatest guitar solo I've ever heard, have a good night."
JWZ Baia I think after playing so much you dont really need markers. if you have a guitar you played all your life. like a favorite guitar for instance.
as much as guitar and other standard rock music has kinda died off cause of computers and ease of creating songs with the same sound, it is soo refreshing to see individuals like bucket head just shred a guitar like they were born to play it. it brings a tear to my eyes everytime I listen to amazing talent like this. I hope bucket head comes out with a new album of just amazing guitar or any other instruments he plays, that melts my soul like this big Sur moon!
been rewatching this for years, and I always note how when he starts to play big sur moon, whether he was nervous or what, set the delay a little too fast and you can tell the speed he plays at was way too fast to hear the beginning as well, but to his amazing credit he manages to slightly improv it so it sounds more enjoyable. always admired that.
Something else, is when you’re playing a gig this enormous, there are PA’s everywhere and these things over a large expanse create their own sound delay and reverberations, so attempting to do an intricate bounce off the delay from your own speaker probably sounded perfect to him and becomes mashed potatoes by the time it reaches the 50th row back
This was the video that changed my perception of music forever. I was just a rockin' teenager watching Guns n Roses on TV and all of a sudden this weird guy came along and my jaw dropped wondering how that much noise could come out of a guitar. Every night I listened to the sound of Big sur Moon with my headphones and finally Buckethead became one of my all time heroes.
3:04 sooo nobody's gonna talk about that Romeo and Juliet in the middle of Big Sur Moon ? Just like Mortal Kombat theme in the middle of his acoustic version
It isn't just the speed and who he plays like. Buckethead plays fast paced songs, he plays slow paced songs, and he plays songs in between. The common factor between all these? He plays them with emotion and feeling. Every concert that he plays at, he plays songs with his own special added touch. Also, he's probably the most original guitarist, seeing as how he plays each song differently than the last time he played it. IE: He doesn't play Nottingham Lace or any other song note for note.
Like "literally" the word "unique" is too often misused, especially in the last decade or two. Buckethead literally fits the definition of unique so well that his picture should accompany the definition in all dictionaries.
Whats with the thumbs down? Loving him now that hes dead doesnt appeal to me I find it more disrespectful than hating him when he was alive. Idiots. On the side note, i wasnt making fun of him I was being serious. He really does remind me of Michael Jackson, not because he's wearing plastic on his face.
You can really clearly hear Paul Gilbert's teaching and influence on him in this song. Or perhaps Paul heard this and was inspired to write The Echo Song! Who knows - either way it's nice to hear.
The only difference is that Buckethead is faster, more precise (or sloppy when it's his intention, which could also be counted as precision), more melodic, and has equal or better riff quality. Tom Morello's riffs are often amazing, no doubt about that. But so are Buckethead's. As a side note, the last minute of Buckethead's "Carpal Tunnel Slug" is one of the greatest guitar solos in existence.
theres on way to play big sur moon in acoustic guitar (without delay) you just hav to be fast at alternate picking, just alternate pick every string about 5 times, and you will get a cool sound ;)
The delay pedal effect, not the picture vs sound. The delay effect is out of sync due to the echo back from the stadium would be the explanation to his comment of it sounding like the delay is off sync.
@kibijit i know but if u listen to the techno-ish version of Resistance they sound alike and i dont listen to BucketHead much soo yea i dnt kno a lot about him but yea hes really good
Well... Unfortunately I can't say that BUckethead never came to Brazil :(. And more than likely that he'll never come back here... Seriously considering to fly to US ust to watch him live.
After listening to this for 12 years as a guitar player, it might not be the fact, but it almost seems like he put the echo interval at a too fast of a pace and so he had to speed up/shorten big sur moon and thereby accidentally creating the ultimate solo
+Our Lady Of Skyscrapers As far as I'm aware, it's just an improv kinda thing, so unless you scour the internet (this video is pretty well known), you're not likely to find anything set in stone.
Artby2wenty its an effect on his amp or pedal. On some amps there’s a knob called time and it makes it sound echoey and and delayed like buckethead in the vid
@kibijit With all due respect to you, Having listened to more or less the full catalog of both Buckethead and Tom Morello, it's not hard for me to form the opinion that Morello is very similar to Buckethead, only without the enormous talent. Don't misunderstand, I enjoy Rage immensely (they're in my top 5), and mainly because of the guitar work. When you take all the solos and all the noise of each of the two, you find a lot of similarities.
Have a word with the sound man. I could barely hear the nunchuck solo.
Check the sound on your phone. I could hear it just fine.
Had me for a second there lol

Buckethead is a boss, he doesn't even need Fret Markers on his guitar neck.
he has side dots though
yeah i just realized
JWZ Baia I think after playing so much you dont really need markers. if you have a guitar you played all your life. like a favorite guitar for instance.
Even if he missed a note buckethead is the king of improv aha
The side markers help a lot
Glad to see Buckethead so animated on stage now instead of just being a stone pillar.

I'm the one unpopular guy who calls this the single BEST guns show ever
absolutely amazing...
I think this version of Big Sur Moon is a bit better than the original. This one sound more etheral and more like buckethead himself.
Too bad he was rushing it
check acoustic version at virgin store
Not quite. The original acoustic version is the best. This one sounds like a mess honestly because of the distortion.
way to much delay
I looked up "WTF" in the dictionary, and Buckethead's face was there.
Never doesn't give me goosebumps. It's like a velvety bolt of lightning. Long live Colonel Bucket head!
Who else came from Kmac?
Yo
Yoooooo

If I ever get abducted by aliens I hope Buckethead is standing at the edge of the forest playing this in the moonlight. That would be pretty rad.
If you ever get abducted by aliens and that happens, take me with you!
The best thing of the "new" Guns N Roses. Axl and him were great together.

Whenever i read 'big sur moon live' i know very very little of it is actually going to be big sur moon
audio is very bad. worse than the video.
Abhimitra Karreddula this is why musicians wear in ears. The place is too big and the echo is bouncing everywhere.
