Thanks that was a blast down memory lane I'm surprised you didn't include the big white bandstand that had a sweet-shop build into it on the other side next to the lake about where that airplane was huge thing unless I just engined it but thanks again very very interesting video
William Wailes who originally owned the park was quite a busy man during his lifetime. And very prominent in his field of stained glass manufacturing. Not only did he fabricate the glass for the west window of Gloucester Cathedral, and a stunning example that is, but he was also commissioned to glaze decorative windows for many churches around the country, including 2 or 3 in Kent, where I, as a native to Gateshead now live. But it didn't stop there. His work can be seen as far afield as Sydney, Australia. And Pennsylvania, in America. And even in Mumbai, in India. So the local boy of Gateshead was well sought after for his work, it seems, and he has left a lasting legacy. I wonder where his descendants are now, and what they do? It would be interesting to know if they are still involved in the same industry.
Why do they not include, my family who bought the original house " The Towers" which is now the crematorium. Nor do they include the various statues, which were given to the art galleries in Gateshead and Newcastle
Born and Bred Gateshead 1960. Went to Saltwell Park as a boy, still do occasionally. As a boy i used to see a wide variation of wild birds? Now you hardly see any? I reckon the massive amount of Squirrels, Magpies and other Crow species are killing them.
It doesn't look as good as that now back then it was the best looking park in Gateshead and ones of best in the UK people had pride then not now look at parks in Newcastle lovely then not now

Is the sunken boats and shopping trollies been removed from the lake yet? Same the old falling down bowling hut got burnt down as another bad winter it would have blown down on it's own. It's dreadful, monuments with bits missing, and lamps with the wiring hanging out the front, waste of council money considering they say they don't have any.
I lived on faraday grove for years and had my first baby there. Always used to visit saltwell park daily, we loved it no matter the weather 😊

In SoT now, where I was born.....and ended up back here. Oh hurrah. 30 years later....I still want to go back.

Saw a couple of robins there a few months ago. And always the ducks and swans in the lake.
