The rear diff lock was just an option. You could get it on any 4WD SR5 or Limited Model. It was offered only from 1996-2000. I have it on my 1998 SR5 4WD. You could also get leather on the SR5, but you didn't get the power seats. You still had lumbar support. Wood accents were available, but they looked terrible.
I am the original owner of a 3rd gen 1999 Toyota Limited 4Runner. I love mine so much, it’s getting repainted and will be brought back to brand new specs.
As a pandemic project, I am doing the exact same thing, except I am pulling off all the body trim so I can repair some rust. The running boards came off also (for good) Looks much better without.
You did an amazing job on this video. Well spoken and detailed. I have a 1997 in Red and an '01 Glacier Metallic Blue. I agree that the 3rd Generation 4Runner is a vehicle that anyone interested in a rugged and highly competent vehicle with massive amounts of aftermarket support, this is the SUV to own.
When I bought my 99 new, I thought it was huge. Little did I know what the current generation 4runners make it seem like a small sporty car. I have both a 4rd and 5th gen.
I love my 4runner... I have 260,620 miles on it. I don't know if I should give her up because her mileage is so high but I have deep loyalty to my 4runner that I want to be with her when her time is up. 😓
@@solidsnake8331 dude my 1996 4runner has 350,000 miles and she's running just as strong as when it came out of the factory keep the oil filled and fresh and this SUV is indestructible.
i have a problem with mine, i dont know if normal or not considering the year of the truck, but mine is very "jumpy" i mean when i m in a gravel road with some ups and downs you can feel every hole of the road, or even when you are driving on a normal street if you pass over a hole it feels like a hit, every mechanic when they see my truck says that is in perfect condition, but i m not sure! i m using 30 psi on my wheels
Make sure to protect that wood grain panel around the climate control panel and front central air vents. lol trying to replace that at a fair price is proving quite difficult.
The prices continue to go up though. I paid $2000 for mine but it had 294k. It currently has 319k miles and it has been my daily driver since I bought it almost 2 years ago
3rd gen is best gen
I've got a 2002 4Runner SR5 4wd with about 164,000 miles. Planning on keeping it a long time, what a truck!

Has your head gasket blown in the early life of ownership?
I own a 2000, her top paint still looks good but she's going to get her frame repainted soon

I have a 1997 4runner limited 4wd and I love it! Best purchase I’ve ever made.
Same here. How many miles you got and did yours come with the e locker

Thank you. Your video was extremely well spoken and clearly presented. Cheers
1999 red limited is the best car ive had so far
I wish I can get that color combo so much. Extremely rare but gorgeous.
Main difference with gen 3 is that they switched from Hilux chassi to Land Cruiser chassi, so it is really the same as a Prado.
I have one in the exact same spec except it’s an ‘00. Just crossed 340,000 on the odometer, love it!
I own a 2000 SR5 and I love almost everything about it, only negative is the awful fuel economy.
Really??
@@moneyseeker8886 Yes really, it has 135k miles on it and is in better shape than the one in the video. It was my grand father's and I inherited it
Adam Smith I have a 2000 sr5 with 140k miles and it’s in way better shape then the one in the video
18 MPG
Best vehicle ever.
Love 3rd gen 4runners !! One .. if not the best overall venchile ever made.
The 4 Runner my friend is second only to the Land Cruiser, which are the two most reliable trucks on this earth.
@@tb6651 that is correct.
Hey nice vid
I have a question
Is this car related to a toyota hilux surf?
Except for the frame rust issue....
@@madmoeljoritchie7476 yes. The 4runner is the USA version.
Totally want to buy one now
Going to purchase one! Thx Man!
I just got one for 400 bucks. It runs great but it is dirty. It has been uses as a minivan by my sister for 22 years.
The best 4runner ever made, 0 to 60 in 16 seconds but it will last forever .

what year do you recommend? @subtegral
love the videos brotha
are them 3.4 engines good engines
I love the third GEN plat form I have to SR5 five-speed 4 x 4 a Limited automatic

You can replace the center console cover for not too much. Makes interior feel much nicer
Good and accurate review.
Only complaint I have with this generation is how utterly slow it is. It's cringeworthy on the highway. Other than that, excellent truck!
a TRD Supercharger & a Borla Cat-back cures that. 😁
Jeez that one is in rough shape
Nah that one is pretty clean lol
Let’s go ducks!
ROLL DOWN THE REAR WINDOW MIKE C
YOU TELL HIM!
Some scumbag stole the cat from my 4runner, sounds like crap at the moment ( straight piped) and is even slower than ever.
Don’t forget u can get one for under 5k

Its 21 year old. Not 25.
The design is 25 years old
@@DrivenCompanion o ok. Because i was getting a lil confused.
That 4runner is not 25 yrs old. Lolz
He's talking about the design, this gen was first released in 1996 which was almost 25 years ago
