- Rumors are swirling that, after the success of the Fallout TV show, Xbox is formulating plans to release a new Fallout game “sooner rather than later”. Could this be Fallout 5 or Fallout New Vegas 2? Would Bethesda Game Studios or Obsidian be involved?

Hey fam. In hindsight, after editing the video, I made the first segment about the Fallout TV show's hype and game sales too long prior to getting into the rumor itself. If that context is important to you, please do watch the opening, but if you just want to get to the rumor, feel free to skip to 06:45. I only just got into Fallout about a year and a half ago, but it's quickly risen to one of my all-time favorite series-especially due to the ongoing investments into 76, the mod scene in FO4, the fairly relaxed gameplay, and the intriguing lore. (Perfect for de-stressing after work.) Sure am excited about the prospect of Xbox propelling the series forward and listening to its fanbase.

This is achieved a lot easier and reduces the chance of failure upon releasing a premature relased game. Therefore avoiding a hell of an incompatible & incomplete game full of bugs.The only thing I smell is the urge to earn a faster & bigger buck A quick release only serves the game company and its investors. The gamers will be left behind desillused.

Josh Sawyer isn't working on anything from what I've been able to find out, doesn't mean he's available though. Regardless, Microsoft needs to form a new studio branch of Obsidian with him heading it up just to make a Fallout spinoff. Get as many integral New Vegas devs, namely Gonzales and Avellone on board, and use the Starfield engine with Fallout 4 assets as a springboard. Let's goooo!

This is a big piece, BGS cannot work game to game anymore. They have Xbox and the resources to form a different team. A decade between major titles isnt gonna cut it anymore. The fall off of fans and interest is insane.

Depending on how well Todd handles the West Coast with the show, Bethesda themselves may very well be able to make a good west-coast spin-off tie-in by working in collaboration with other Bethsoft studios like in Austin, Montreal, or Dallas.
Once they're done with Avowed, I think a Fallout NV 2 would take priority over Outer Worlds 2
we seriously don't need a New Vegas 2... we need to see more of the Fallout world. A game in New Orleans would be amazing.

The reason New Vegas was so popular is because some of the original members of the development team of fallout 1 and 2 and the Van Buren game were at obsidian
New Vegas isn't as popular as the fanboys claim. Fallout 4 has actually sold 3 times as many units yet hasn't existed as long as New Vegas has. Even Fallout 3 has sold more units than New Vegas and is older. Yet Fallout 3 and 4 were both made entirely by Bethesda.
All they have to do to cash in on the TV series is to make a huge DLC based upon the TV series, for Fallout 4.
Better be pushing that fo3 remake first

I'd think the fastest way to get a "new" Fallout game would be to port an older game like New Vegas to the newest engine. Kind of like Bioshock Remastered, or Metro: Last Light Redux. All the script writing is done, so you just have to update for the engine and textures.
A proper remaster with new engine and graphics a complete overhaul in terms of that just keep the script and the voice acting the same and it would sell like hot cakes hopefully they don’t just do a texture thing and mark it as remastered like a lot of companies do
I'd need to see a full remake of a bigger Strip and all cut content restored. I'd be fine with Fallout 3 getting moved directly over with the graphics of Fallout 4. New Vegas though could flourish by giving another chance to shine with intended original plans being added. Bioshock on its own needed nothing added and so it is in a different boat.

Dlc but they kind of are stuck with it. I liked Starfield more than other people but I highly doubt I'll ever return to it for future playthroughs like I do with Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Starfield at the core is very boring and offers even less role playing options in the story than Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 did.

@@alex_eats_hands8856. Have to agree with you. Both Bethesda and Obsidian showed us that space operas like Mass Effect are nearly impossible to pull off. Both OW and Starfield had lackluster lore. I'd still have faith in them making Fallout and would be OK with a New Obsidian Fallout game. The lore is already there for the most part. The Fallout 4 engine style still holds up and I'd be OK with them using that as a base
@Deadsea_1993 they won't use the fallout 4 engine for the base, they'll end up using star fields, thats what they are using for the next skyrim game and F5 most likely and if we get a spinoff than they'll just use it too for the base
Fallout 2 was made in single year, and NV in 18 months, so it's certainly possible to get a high-quality game out fast as long as you mostly stick with already existing resources and tools.
Why can't Xbox talk to the Fallout London Boys? To get there Fallout spin-off game out it's already made why not make it an official game 🤷♂️

They can't because they would need to make things legal with British Goverment and London City Council. It takes time and resources, that why Washington in Fallout 3 differs from real life one unlike Boston in Fallout 4.

I don't know if others share the same sentiment as i do but I'm really happy for Bethesda good for them. People tend to be hard on game developers and what they don't understand is how much it takes to making a game no less an open world where you have the choice to be good bad or in-between its amazing how far gaming technology has come. i grew up on first gen consoles who could ever imagine roaming a post Apocalyptic waste land building nuka cola grenades and just decimating your enemies.for me Bethesda took the open world concept to another level

Individual games don't have their largest ever hype around them but the franchise as a whole definitely does due to the unprecedented fact that every game has seen a massive resurgence and the popularity of the show.
5:20 Dear lord, the fact Fallout Shelter - a relatively simple game released 9 years ago - was making about 20k a day before the recent hype is just mindblowing. The amount of people spending money on simple mobile games.. no wonder so many developers are constantly looking at that market.
Either way, it's fantastic to see this huge increase in excitement around Fallout. These games are fantastic, I hope Xbox can get something in the works. I know it's cool to hate on the Creation Engine, but I love it, it creates the best open world sandboxes I've played in the last 2 decades. Expand BGS, give the engine to another studio.. whatever they need to make it work: give me more!

If they are smart, the next major expansion for Fallout 76 would have a direct tie-in to the TV show. That's the quickest way to capitalize on the increase in players.
Well 76 and the tv show are almost 200 years apart so a tie in is nearly impossible when you have that gap and not to mention they are on opposite sides of the United States
That's...not really possible given the 200 yearish time gap. Though they already may be as the main quest for 76 is securing the nuclear arsenal of West Virginia for Vault Tec. There could be a tie in potential there. But tbh, I don't see it happening.
They'd be better off making new DLC for fallout 4
They 100% can do a story that takes place 25 years after and is hinted in the show or related to the story somehow. Prequels are a thing and it would be really easy to implement

While I'd love a new fallout open world rpg, those take a while. But, they could do smaller games that are still in the same world and use existing history. How about an action game based around the rise of the Minutemen and their defense of Diamond City? Or a shooter following the first battle of hoover dam? I'd think those would be less time intensive with a more narrow focus.

Due to the fallout show and its success (well deserved), it would be difficult to do fallout new vegas 2. The second season will probably delve deep into what happened from fallout new vegas to the dates of the tv show. Unless they teased new vegas and dont delve that much into it, and went elsewhere with the show, I don't see how they could do it. A spin off is 100% required now after the show, I'd like to see central America. We have always had East and west. And also perhaps take a new approach, you work for the enclave would be such a unique opportunity, obviously you can make decisions if you want to continue working for them or not like a true rpg.
I may be biased as a Texas native but I'd love to see another New Vegas type western-esque Fallout game set in Texas. The state is absolutely massive and crazy diverse, could easily make another game with multiple unique zones/biomes like F76. Either that, or a game near Salt Lake City would be cool. I tried my hand at making a world space for a FO4 Salt Lake City mod, but haven't made much progress due to lack of time and experience with the creation kit

I think that Bethesda blocks a New Vegas 2 because of the TV show taking place in that area.. also a remaster of either New Vegas or fallout 3 will bring massive revenue. And they'll probably focus on new content for 76 anything they can do short-term a new game would take too long

I’m just genuinely happy to see more people coming into the franchise and appreciating it. Good for Bethesda and each of the studios who have given us this world, and kudos to those in the community for their loyalty and friendship. My thinking exactly. Whatever he's doing, Microsoft needs to place him at the head of whatever plans they have for a spinoff. Just replicate the New Vegas method, using existing assets (FO4) and the updated Starfield engine, but give them more time and $$$.

If this is true, Microsoft and Bethesda should work with the team that is making the Fallout New Vegas remake on Fallout 4 (F4NV).
Take the really impressive mod that they have been working on for 5-6 years now, add in MS and BGS's resources and money, and release a modern day next gen recreation of the most beloved Fallout game right around the same time that the Fallout show goes to New Vegas in season 2.
As a long time fallout fan to see it blow up over a show is amazing.
They should have multiple studios working on it. It would be awesome to have a fallout 1 and 2 remake, obsidian doing a new vegas 2, and some other studio doing fallout 5
I dont think Microsoft would take FO5 from Bethesda - but if I were Phil I would definitely have a sit down with Todd about a spinoff by another team, with Todd consulting on how it progresses the story. I know it harsh, but if Bethesda takes 6-7 years per game, Phil needs to tell/convince Todd that spinoffs need to happen to keep the franchises relevant.
Bethesda really hasn't done a good job with monetizing the Fallout series. They have really underestimated the player base. Compared to all the re-releases of Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls and Creation Club? Yeah they were caught with their pants down with the boost from the show.
Hope it's true someone at Microsoft is going to get the ball rolling on something.
Bethesda has a pretty small amount of employees for such a popular studio, so I hope they hire more devs so there isn't decade long spaces in between the elder scrolls and fallout games.

If they want to get something out sooner. I think they should hire the Fallout London team to finish and release a full game. Would be similar to when TaleWorlds hired the Mod team for Mount & Blade: Warband - Viking Conquest.
The best Microsoft/xbox could do is some sort of cooperation between Bethesda, Obsidian and inXile. Let three studios do a spinoff or New Vegas 2, would/could be awesome.

They may have to go to a different studio. Obsidian may be able to do it with avowed almost out the door but inxile is doing clockwork revolution right now
The starfield dlc is gonna be like new customization in the ship or something, maybe they add a new weapon type, and then they’ll think that’s like some kind of godlike revelation since their Bethesda and I guess everything is a huge accomplishment to them like a company of toddlers

Why don't they bring Fallout London in house? Hire the mods people, bring them into obsidian and bgs. Take that from a mod and fully flush it out. You could turn it around in a year or two. It's almost done. Just go in and make it better with real resources.
It would be pretty petty of Todd, et al, to leave because Fallout development was moved to another studio. Even doing it from the perspective of BGS's Fo5 plans turning into Fo6. Especially if the game is big enough to not feel like a smaller scale DLC
What if it ended up that Fallout 5 is made by Obsidian or InXile and Fallout 6 is BGS? BGS’s pipeline doesn’t get affected and we get a Fallout game sooner rather than later. And honestly, idk if another subtitle can work. I say just use the numbers and let the spin-offs just be numbered titles. Keeps it all on one place, kinda like Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy is not a good example. It has a ton of subtitled spin-off titles.

Honestly im more excited for a Fallout made with Fallout 4 assests. I dont need new mechanics like crafting or driving or whatever. I just want more handcrafted well made content like quests, dialogue choices, perks, etc. New Vegas was able to mostly focus on content which is what made it so good even with the short dev time.
Let Bethesda go and make 5 in their time, hit up an Obsidian led New Vegas area title and get modders in on the action to make it work faster, or just revamp New Vegas itself and give us the remaster/remake we wanted for ages if not a New Vegas 2

I think MS telling Bethesda to pick a studio under their roster to make a spin off, or letting some studios pitch ideas to Bethesda/Zenimax and letting them pick which one they like the most or something to that effect would be the best route to go down realistically.
Or honestly, just getting bethesda to remaster or remake F3/NV, I'd be more than fine with that too.
I wish InXile would Remake Fallout 1 & 2. From what I'm told, the lead developers of the originals are at InXile. Is it Brian Fargo ? Let them Remake those 1st two. Then have Obsidian Remake Fallout: New Vegas before going to FO: NV 2. Bethesda themselves are working on Fallout 3. So that's covered. It's just time to bring this beloved franchise into modern-day gaming with all the latest technologies gaming has to offer. Still playing Fallout 76 consistently for 2 years now.

I think (and this is me guessing) the reason that BGS isn't working on fo5 is because many huge projects mods for fo4 like Folon, Miami, the capital wasteland, New Vegas etc. are being developed Folon is done but not cuz of next-gen can we even called it next-gen?
In fact, inXile is the OG dev of the Fallout series.
the way he mentioned 76 and starfield, but not 4 when they just released a next gen update, makes me wonder if 4's next gen update is like a test to make sure they get it right for doing a 76 next gen update maybe? remember its on old gen and still low quality and stuff compared to 4 new players because of the show, makes sense to update 76 as well and that old leak about 4 and NV being remastered, what if thats the plan for the next few years?
With how much of a slam dunk the show was they are looking to have a game line up with season 2 if at all possible. Looking at the numbers that happened after Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Phil is not going to want a game to not take advantage of the next surge.
There is also the possibility of studio expansion like CDPR is doing to create parallel production.

I'm playing Fallout 4 for the first time since it was on sale and haven't been able to put it down. The seperate side story tv series was awesome and the way to do it for other major game ip's! Im a 46 year old grandpa, and can't wait for a Fallout 5.

Fallout London and Fallout Miami should just be DLC for Fallout 4, and maybe just another huge DLC containing all the new weapons from 76 and a big new map to explore. They could even take a few of the larger mods and work them into the main game to refresh it a bit, Life Finds a Way, MCAM, Ketaros Treasures
Frankly... from a strictly BUSINESS POV... they'd be really stupid not to take advantage from the Fallout hype right now!

Imo, i THOUGHT Zenimax getting bought by MS would've brought some decent changes when it came to the developing cycles of some of the biggest gaming franchises out there (Fallout/TES). But nah, the decade plus between entries continues. Were the fans the only people who KNEW this had great potential and would generate a massive amount of interest in the games? Was Witcher and even Cyberpunk getting a freaking series and anime not eye opening enough? They had the best possible chance to release a new FO and decided not to. Bethesda, Bethesda never changes.
Im looking forward for extra content for starfield it was suppose to be this huge game but some patches and extra content is much needed hope they dont abandon it.
Id pay full price for remakes or even remasters of FO3 and NV. This is ASSUMING they work properly and have modern ammenities like FOV sliders.
I would love the developers of New Vegas to make another fallout, or even just remaster New Vegas. That games was one of the best games i've ever played and easily the best game of the fallout franchise
They need to hire some of these modders like fallout London or fallout 4: new Vegas and convert them into actual full games so it saves on time

It would be interesting if Microsoft got Larian Studios to make a spinoff for fallout.
InXile and Obsidian are the only existing studios that I think could work on Fallout spin-offs in the future.
Also, they should really just limit the DLC for Starfield. With the response to Starfield, I think just working on one DLC and quality of life fixes is the right idea. Let's move on from Starfield now and move towards Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 already.
I could fw a return to the isometric turn based combat of original fallouts if Microsoft had the pull to convince Larian to give fallout a crack and see if they could put the RPG back into the IP

I said it on X a couple weeks ago. I believe that they will announce at the end of season 2 for the show that Fallout NV 2 will be coming out that year. Probably the holiday season, so I'd guess 2026 we get NV 2.
I think the new fallout game should be in the Chicago area, and have your character start out as a member of the enclave.
First I knew that the show had exploded interest in Fallout games was when my daughters, both in their forties, asked which Fallout game to buy, and should they get the DLCs. I'm glad to see them get back into gaming. Next family get together will be boring for three husbands, but great for me, the girls, the grandkids, and my grandson-in-law.
At least where I am in Canada all of the EB Games changed to GameStop

What if Microsoft just hired the Fallout London team and bought FO London and released it as a standalone game? It would be quick, probably cheaper, and it would be amazing!
They could do that with the Miami one too if they wanted. Although, I think there would be more interest in London.
I'm scared that they will rush game and force to make it either linear looter-shooter with incomprehensive microtransaction system or give it to Telltale to make some boring adventure.
I think if Bethesda/Xbox decided to let another studio have a crack at a new spin off title for Fallout they should defnitely consider nXile Entertainment. nXile are currently about to release Clockwork Revolution either later this year or early to mid next year and they haven't announced their next project so it could possibly be perfect timing for them to start development on a Fallout game. While I would love a New Vegas 2 or any other Obsidian made Fallout spin off title... the timeline doesn't really line up. Obsidian is currently working on Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2. Avowed launches later this year, but The Outer Worlds 2 is probably a few years away.

If done intelligently, the Fallout franchise could be expanded in so many unique ways: Classic Fallout remasters/remakes; Fallout 3 & NV remasters; a new, original isometric Fallout (BG3 proved CRPGs can see mainstream success); and, of course, Fallout 5. As much as I want all the Fallout I can get, I can only hope that we get quality over quantity (or both!)
I hope Bethesda releases the Shattered Space DLC and just moves on from Starfield. Put all that energy into Elder Scrolls VI and the pre production of Fallout 5. I don't see anyone clamoring for Starfield DLC like we do for Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5.
Imagine if Bethesda never bothered with that failed game, we would’ve had elder scrolls 6 now and fallout 5 in couple of years. Bethesda wasted 4 years on a fundamentally bad game.
