Gwynbleidd I would imagine if she looked at that TB would've called her out. She did clearly make out some of it from the label even if she couldn't tell the actual flavor.
TB, the white film on the chocolate you ate is normal. The cocoa butter was just never skimmed before being added (impurities from the cooking process float to the surface and form that white film. Perfectly safe and edible, but it slightly diminishes the purity of flavour in the chocolate. Often occurs in cheaper chocolates). It's actually exceedingly difficult to make chocolate spoil, it is highly resistant to degredation from oxygen, bacteria is not naturally drawn to it and almost no insects on earth can eat cocoa. This is part of the reason chocolate was such an ideal food given to soldiers during both world wars. They were highly resistant to spoiling.

landlubber12 I'm not sure if that's right, but I've eaten plenty of chocolate that looks like that and all that really happens is a small change in the taste. If one of them is reading the comments they can know that it should be safe to eat.
Genna Bain My friend from Norway found them very nice too, until they started to appear in Norwegian supermarkets too. Then she didn't find them so *special* anymore :P Here you can get them in pretty much EVERY supermarket.
Genna Bain I have literally never met (or seen on the internet) a non-Dutch person that tried stroopwafels and didn't respond with something along the lines of "oh my god this is delicious"
Genna Bain I'm so curious how you guys pronounce the word 'stroopwafel', it's so incredibly...Dutch. It does make me hope that we'll see a Low Countries candy box :D Dutch & Belgian candy, though we have enough variation to each warrant our own boxes maybe, but if Scandinavia got one I bet we'll have a combined one too. IF it happens. I bet there's more stuff in there you guys would like, not that many nut-flavoured things.
Etai Shuster Yeah me neither, I've also never seen that mini hazelnut thing before. A pity he didn't try the bamba, in my experience it's always fun seeing foreigners reactions to eating it expecting to taste something like cheese puffs.
+Etai Shuster Odd. I remember it well from the time I was a kid. They weren't sold individually. I don't know if they still exist because I almost never buy sweets any more.
Gamma Ray Probably something to do with the shipping, but yeah Halva is amazing :D Edit: That was a snack not Halva. They just try to mimic the real taste D:
+Lior G. I had it myself, it is dry probably just because it was the snack version, not necessarily "sandy" but it required some liquid to get down. It has a strong sesame seed taste, which I didn't mind but I could understand others not liking that flavor.
I lived in Israel for 6 months last year and I can tell you that Elite chocolates never expire...Ever. There was this little corner store down the block from me and they had this one bar of Elite chocolate on the shelf for like 5 of those months ((I know this because it had a distinctive black marker mark on the package)) and I finally bought it on my last day and had it and it was still fine. I think the making process just makes it look like it's gone bad.
Uk Gamer It's a little difficult not to use Israeli goods while YOU ARE IN ISRAEL as I was last year. So I don't know how you expected me to 'boycott Israeli goods'. Even if I wasn't in Israel I wouldn't have done that. I support what Israel was dreamed up to be by Herzog or later by Ben-Gurion. Netanyahu and his cronies are criminals, mass murdering criminals, but they won't make me boycott Israel. If I boycotted a country because of the crimes of it's leadership I would never buy American goods and I am an American. I'd never buy UK goods either for that matter. Also, nice attempt to flag Qwerty's response, presumably because you don't like being shown the truth, but it's true, Hamas are evil. They are the enemy, and the Palestinian people will never be free or have peace until they're defeated. Now, that being said, please take your opinion elsewhere. I didn't make the comment above to start an Israel-Palestine debate. I was commenting on my own experience with a brand of chocolate. Take your anger somewhere else, UK Gamer, we don't need it here.
TB is like a big child "Ughh I don't like that. I don't like cola flavor, I don't even like cola. I don't like humus. I don't like smoked meat flavor. I hate nuts, I'm probably allergic to them." How do you deal with this baby?
Natakupl But if he was a child he would try each one of those things, say he hates them, then a few months later is caught sitting under his desk surrounded by half-empty bags of them.
When I heard TB say "halva" and apparently have no idea what that is, I was looking forward to his reaction. Did not disappoint ;) The description of "biting on dust" and "eating sand" is suprisingly accurate, though, according to my experience :) Except I would add "terribly sweet dust".
That chocolate is fine. Looks a bit odd, yeah. But any time you take chocolate on a plane it seems to do the same thing. It's either the sugar or fat in the chocolate (usually sugar in my experience) 'blooming' or really just becoming visible on the outside of the chocolate bar.
R Neumann Also, halva can be eaten spread on toast rather than in a bar like that. Which is a good way if you like the taste maybe less than the texture.
Halva, I used to be able to get tubs of it at Lidl stores back in the UK. When it comes down to it, you need to treat it similarly to a very dry biscuit, if you eat it alone it just dried out your entire mouth but if you have it with a drink or something cold and wet like ice cream, it's much, much nicer.
I remember a Netherland Santa that in 90' was visiting our town every year before Christmas. The only one negative side of his visits was tons of licorice he was bringing with him :D I was a kid, licorice is sweat so i tried and tried it again and every time i was wondering how a sweats can taste so horrible! xD
For reference, chocolate flourishing is completely harmless. Its basically the chocolate butter oozing out, but its still the same stuffafterwards, just in changed distribution.
the chocolate will not hurt you. the affect on the chocolate with pop rocks is called blooming. it happens when the chocolate is either frozen or heated.
When chocolate is allowed to get too warm, the cocoa butter separates out and settles on top in a white film. It's called losing it's tempering and it is harmless but does somewhat compromise the flavor and texture of the chocolate. Most likely the chocolate just got too hot while being transported. It's a very common problem when shipping from hot climates.
Halva is like the snack where you go to visit your gramma as a child, and as you leave she gives you a halva snack and your like "yayyy" but you throw it away once you leave her house.
I'm chalking the Halva one to expiration date... It's really just honey and Sesame, it does crumble in your mouth, but it has a distinct flavor that is nothing like sand.
As swedes, me and my mother LOVE British salt & vinegar chips. Wouldn't mind having some of those. And on the subject of nuts in chocolate, they're often used as a filler for cheap chocolate to make it taste better and to well, fill it out.
Pity you can't try most of it. I personally love the peanut-filled-with-hazelnut one. Side note: Osem is pronounced similarly to 'awesome', and the phrase is supposed to be their slogan - 'it's good, it's Osem/awesome' (presumptuous in the same way McDonald's slogan is).
If you guys ever find yourselves wanting to try Arabic cuisine, then I recommend you go for Lebanese food. I'm not Lebanese myself but I speak for a lot of Arabs when I say the Lebanese make the best food in the whole region.
About chocolate, that doesn't mean it's expired, when that happens (which I don't know how to describe in english) it's only that the conservants and such had moved to the outside of the chocolate because it wasn't stored at an appropiate temperature. There's really no problem at all in consuming it, although it does prove that that chocolate is of rather poor quality.
Sigh, chocolate literally can't go bad. Active moisture value is way too low for any sort of bacterial growth. It just starts looking a bit weird when it's old or was heated because sugar and or fat starts crystallizing on the outside, it has no effect on the flavour or edibility. The more pure varieties of chocolate tend have this problem more, milk chocolate usually doesn't have it at all.
It will eventually go bad, but you can eat 5+ past sell by date and be fine ( I know because I have done it ) but once you get into 10+ year old probably don't eat it
Good halva (at least here in bulgaria) is a bit moist/oily and when you pull it it comes off as strings and is very sweet but has a very unique taste to it.I think it's made from sunflower seeds (99% sure about that fact :D )
Just get a whole bunch of Germany boxes and mask them as different countries ;) As I hear, TB is quite fond of Kinder, Haribo and Lindt. They are also international brands so no one will notice! Also, if you like puffed rice chocolate, Nippon is pretty good.
I live in Israel my whole life, and never had a "pinuky" it's actually not a popular candy here, we usually settle for mentos. Great episode tho, cant wait for the next one.
After these boxes I always wonder; they just opened aaaaall those snacks, and had like one bite. Are they gonna close 'em with clips or do you eat 'em in a day or whatnot? Otherwise a loooot is thrown away :P
hmm, I'm actually tempted to get just this box, it's got real food in it, not just sweets. I went out looking around and found many of the items in this box, and can vouch for them being quite good. Bamba in particular.
Just stuff like bagels, blintzes, lox, latkes, matzo etc. I think it's mostly stuff that came from European and American Jews? I really like all the Jewish food I've tried, I really want to give Gefilte fish a try!
+Thomas Gardiner Israel has those foods, but Middle Eastern and Mediterranean foods are more commonly eaten than the typical European Jewish cuisine. There's also a ton of Western foods and international chains there, too. So, to answer your question, what you think of as "Jewish foods" like bagels and Gefilte fish can easily be bought, but they're not by any means the main things people eat.
So, I've got a couple of things to say: Bamba is great, if you like peanuts. (Fun fact: Bamba is one of the reasons for low amount of peanut allergies in Israel. Since Bamba is eaten from a very young age, it helps avoiding peanut allergies) I have never, ever, heard of Pinooky (However you spell it) The halva has sesame written on it since halva is made from sesame, or to be exact, from Tchina.
Good to know that TB has a mild peanut allergy. Yes, he's correct in assuming that a "nasty reaction" is an allergy, even if it doesn't outright kill him.
I have been waiting for this for so long! I'm so happy, its kinda sad that it was full of peanuts but good news is that I know I would like Israel's snack food
I'm from Israel it's funny to see how people react to our food an yes after watching this I was on my knees from laughter and you should try falafel it's more Arabic then Israeli but it's soooo sooo delish
Sandcake. Hmm. Yep. I dunno if that halva's in date, Ashens would probably be clanging the alarm bells over TB's shoulder while staring into the camera.
I loved TB telling Genna she can't read Hebrew before she shows off that she actually can. XD +1 to Mrs. Bain.
TheMortonator There is a reason she runs the company.
TheMortonator She didn't prove it, certainly!
TheMortonator More likely that she read of the pamphlet included with the box.

I can't help but notice the irony in Israel's most famous snack being bacon-flavored.

+Jan Joost Sijbesma It definately does have an effect on the flavour, but it depends on the type of chocklate and what the producer designed it for.

Genna's nails are very pretty.
TB, Lemon propel? Black Cherry is the best!
TB should look up what Halva actually is after eating some
I dunno if Israeli food is similar to the kind of Jewish food you get in Europe in the states, but if it is then awesome!
Thomas Gardiner What kind of jewish food do you get in Europe? I'm from israel :)
Just stuff like bagels, blintzes, lox, latkes, matzo etc. I think it's mostly stuff that came from European and American Jews?
I really like all the Jewish food I've tried, I really want to give Gefilte fish a try!
Thomas Gardiner Oh god, no you don't want to try gefilte.
It's like a dead fish. Not a fish that was killed for food, just a dead one.
Let him eat more stuff! It's so funny to hear him scoff at random stuff. And peanuts. xD
i think there's a "peanut's disgraceful face" on every single one of those videos xD
So, I've got a couple of things to say:
Bamba is great, if you like peanuts. (Fun fact: Bamba is one of the reasons for low amount of peanut allergies in Israel. Since Bamba is eaten from a very young age, it helps avoiding peanut allergies)
I have never, ever, heard of Pinooky (However you spell it)
The halva has sesame written on it since halva is made from sesame, or to be exact, from Tchina.
טל אלקיים
Halva is the bee's knees. And those peanut things sound amazing.
Thanks for these Genna. You and TB are hilarious...and Universal Yums oughtta sponsor this! I bought into it just due to these vids.
I enjoy these way too much!
Halva bars are so good. Yours must have been stale or something. They're supposed to melt in your mouth. They're one of my favorite treats.
Just for the record, I'm very much not at all a fan of peanuts but I do absolutely love Bamba.
I'm from Israel it's funny to see how people react to our food an yes after watching this I was on my knees from laughter and you should try falafel it's more Arabic then Israeli but it's soooo sooo delish
I fucking love how grumpy he looks.
does the company that sends these not have an option for people with a peanut allergy? Seems a bit daft if they don't.
I am so happy that this is back... I think I may have a problem
Sandcake. Hmm. Yep. I dunno if that halva's in date, Ashens would probably be clanging the alarm bells over TB's shoulder while staring into the camera.
Finally, real CONTENT in my sub box!
Correction. It's non-Crendor non-content.
Bamba is the most popular snack in Israel by far from all others.
PLEASE tell TB to try Halva again, because that stuff is shitty. Homemade halva is just simply the best shit
