The moment Green Hill Act 1 started up I groaned and thought this was just gonna be another palette swap of Sonic 1, but as I continued watching, I found myself to be pleasantly surprised and was constantly downright impressed with this hack. Level design is a bit "eh" but the callbacks to the prototypes and the blend of new ideas with the original game really makes this a great hack.

I saw Sonic 1 Delta and thought it was a neat hack though it felt like it was missing something. Seeing this new version is honestly astounding. It went from a beta inspired rom hack to a reimagining of Sonic 1. From the redesigned stages to the subtle art touch ups like dust when running full speed, it’s like playing Sonic 1 for the first time. Lord Sith and his team has done a fantastic job. It shows that you don’t need to make an over the top hack idea to be up there with the greats.
I do have some nitpicks: The planets in Marble zone is honestly really distracting and Sparkling Zone’s lights flash way too fast. Other than that, it’s an awesome hack
I think it’s a reimagined recreation of the sonic 1 demo
This hack is honestly really impressive! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love how they’ve made good use of scrapped content from the original game.
I like how they kept the original idea of having Labyrinth Zone being the second zone, while also making the zone way more tolerable. That is dedication if I ever saw it.

@@tailzgimer1726 yes, star light is before scrap brain too, but so is spring yard, It goes, Spring Yard, Labyrinth, Star Light, then scrap brain in classic sonic. So yes, spring yard is before scrap brain.
I always imagine remasters or reimagining of Classic videos games, like the original Super Mario Bros and Zelda games, that just take that original game and run wild with a bunch of creative new ideas and such. This absolutely fits that dream, but for Sonic 1! Bringing back beta elements while also bringing in the creators own unique new twists on the levels, animations, mechanics, etc. It is so cool to see something like this!
This hack in particular feel VERY SEGA Genesis in all the right ways, even more so than the original game, and I absolutely love it. I can’t wait to try it for myself!
Forgot just how much an eyesore the background of the Beta Spring Yeard was. If the Mod creator plans on working on this more, tuning down the amount of buildings and the flashing lights would make it much more tolerable. Other than that, great mod!

This looks like a really well-made hack, I really like the slight remixes for the music. It's a nice new style for Sonic 1 with some elements from the prototype.

Wow, this is an absolutely outstanding hack, the best I've seen since Sonic 1 Blastless Edition. It keeps all the familiar elements of Sonic 1 while adding in new design choices to help bring it up to speed to its sequels, while even including elements from the prototype. The only way I could see it being better is if it went the Sonic 3 Complete route and allowed to choose from things like the final/prototype backgrounds, drums, etc. But what's here is a welcomed and well-needed update to the original Sonic.
That would be an awesome route for Sonic 1 KawariNo take right there... I'd consider it!

Love how all the Zones look in all 3 acts, and even some of the different remixes for each act. Reminds me of S3&K in that aspect.
Is it me, or does Sonic's sprites look inconsistent? I liked his sprites from the S1 Delta hack. Some of these sprites however just look choppy to me.

Ok so I've been watching R&Z for awhile, but I have one question. Does anyone know what Razor has against barriers? I have seen videos where he will purposely go out of his way to avoid them. It's just something I have noticed.
I think it's something with the video compression. When they started on UA-cam the shield/barrier's flashing would make sonic turn invisible to the viewer
That, or it gets in the way of their perfect runs
My favorite thing about this is not having a speed cap and having the base running speed higher

The drums are a bit too much, as they overpower the rest of the music. Other than that, it's a good hack.
I like drums personally, but even from outside that perspective, it's nice to hear a fresh take on songs that've been listened to death
I really like how it incorporated the beta elements. Because based on this reimagining, Sonic 1 initially had a completely different tone and aesthetic. It feels like a bedtime story and a 1930s cartoon, which is what I think they went for considering that Sonic's design was based off Felix the Cat. I'd go as far to say that the Archie comics feel possible in this kind of Sonic.
Overall, this is one of the best Sonic rom hacks I've seen.

In case someone asks about the emeralds, they exist, but you have to find them on the stages. (Yes, the Big Rings are totally useless) (Says someone who just discovered it, duh) Outside of that, it's a totally impressive hack!
Tbh this hack was amazing to play. A little challenging compared to the original, animations and textures that emulate the supposed proto build, and the levels have their prototype names (Sparkling, and Clock Work). I like it!
This is by far the sickest Sonic 1 hack. This MrLordSith is a legend.

Honestly I think some of the level design here feels more fleshed-out than the original game. Green Hill Zone and Labyrinth are the ones I fuck with the most. Sonic being slightly faster is also appreciated!

The More I think about it the more we should have a unique award for the most fun and creative Prototype-based Romhack along with the most faithful romhack to the prototypes in the Sonic Hacking Contest
this rom hack is the best adaptation of the beta sonic the hedgehog development ever.
I remember that the TTS level had something like 12 layers of scrolling. Kinda disappointed this didn't happen but it's still fantastic that this exists. If the other ROM hack was called Sonic 1 Beta Remake, then this could have been Sonic 1 Alpha Remake.
Wow. Apparently this is a remaster of the beta, with the original zone order as reflected in the end credits and some tasteful design choices with the levels and even a couple of the bosses. This must be really hard if you were only able to get 1 or 2 emeralds!
This feels more like if they completed the prototype of sonic 1, and recreated it in their own style

It's been a long time since I've found myself truly enamored by a hack. This isn't a blowaway work, but it was more than enough for me to want to download.
