Some of you are probably curious about the original sources of the two tracks I ported for this ROM hack. For Chemical Plant 2P, it was from The Ninja Warriors with the track "Best Room". I tweaked it a fair bit to make it sound fuller and punchier. You can hear the original track here: ua-cam.com/video/2GibS34vGiQ/v-deo.html Hill Top 2P's theme is Sand Zone from Cave Story. I would be surprised if someone didn't know it was from there and if you haven't played that, then play it!
Hi there deltaw-05, I haven't heard or played Cave Story, if it's on rival hardware like NES or SNES then that's probably why, I was a Sega kid growing up. I like that funky track that plays on Aquatic Ruin Zone 2P with that smooth, straight bass. This hack in my eyes is a contest winner! So many improvements and special effects thrown in and the fact that Markey Jester helped on the project nudges it further towards first place. I'm not whinging, far from it and this is extremely nit-picky but the only thing I don't like about this triple AAA Sonic hack is that this hack is using Sonic 3's sound driver over the base Sonic 2 driver, the drum samples are very scratchy, more so than in the vanilla Sonic 2 driver. Wouldn't it have been better to use something like Clownacy's Sonic 2 Cloned V2 driver? 👍
@@Oysterblade84 Cave Story is a PC game and was ported over to multiple platforms both officially and unofficially. It's a Metroidvania type of game, if you've played any of the Metriod and Castlevania game. It had similar treatment to DOOM and SM64 where fans ported it to multiple hardware with varying successes. There is a stable homebrew port of it to the Mega Drive which you can Google it and take a look it. It's a very good port of what is one of the best indie games of all time.
@@Oysterblade84 Also, to put it short about the driver situation, there were sound issues when using S2's driver with ARZ so flamewings S3K driver was used which fixed the issue. S2 Clone Driver would require a lot of RAM (due to it being a 68k driver) to implement it which we didn't have space for.
OK, the buttery smooth Special Stages were something I wasn't expecting. BUT THEN YOU GUYS PULL OFF A SPINNING CORKSCREW EFFECT DURING IT?! Mighty impressive! 😳👏
This Hack. Right Here. Is THE most impressive Sonic ROM Hack I've ever seen. The Intro is smooth, the Special Stages are even more of a technical marvel (Even though NOTHING ELSE was changed inside the stages themselves), and the amount of effort put into the VS mode is (expectedly) huge. How much RAM did that Intro use up?
0:52 No freaking way, a player just found Nickelodeon the Echidna. He looks like Orange Knuckles but don't be fooled by his looks, he's not. It's rumored that Sonic 2 collaborated with Nick Arcade to produce this echidna character and Hamburger flavored Energy drinks related to the Sonic the hedgehog 2 brand.
If you really like Aquatic Ruin's 2 Player theme, then you might like Blossoms. The theme is from "My Swimming Brain". They've had a few noteable hits, "If you think this is real life", "The Keeper", & "Your girlfriend".
I know it would’ve been quite taxing for SEGA to have originally pulled off, on top of the utter mess that was Sonic 2’s development, but I really wish it had a proper 2-player split-screen co-op campaign mode like this. That alone would’ve probably incentivised even more people to get the Mega Drive/ Genesis bundle with Sonic 2.
This isn't co-op, it's purely competitive (at the moment anyway, we're discussing other ideas). Someone else has made a Sonic 2 Co-op hack with split screen, and while not complete, it's a decent demonstration with five levels so far.
I like how the creator tried to make some parts look as smooth as possible. The title screen, intro cards, player's rotation in bonus stages, even bonus stage itself... Neat
9:21 The bubbles and the timer are glitchy. What does the fanmade music "Aquatic Ruin Zone (2-player)" remind you of? Only custom music is used for 2P versions of Chemical Plant, Aquatic Ruin, and Hill Top in this hack.
Eu achei que no estagio atual de desenvolvimento não tinha mais a distorção do Special Stage no jogo, ainda bem que mordi minha lingua, é impressionante!
This is the best that Sonic 2's 2P vs has ever looked
*see title screen*
"Oh, a Sonic 2 32X por--"
"IT'S ON MEGA DRIVE?"

I played cave story about a month before I tried this hack out, but managed to get that mixed up with another game lol

The midstage special stages are so clever. It runs so much better with this approach, and looks great
The special stages in this are so smooth compared to the originals, and the corkscrew... MD Sonic hacks are insane nowadays

Smooth special stages, just like on the 2013 Android/iOS remake!
that title screen is wicked cool, how in the hell was this done in real hardware?
The Megadrive can do some really cool shit if you know what you’re doing.
That Aquatic Ruin music...😚
I really hope there are projects like this for the other Genesis Sonic games.
If you really like Aquatic Ruin's 2 Player theme, then you might like Blossoms. The theme is from "My Swimming Brain".

Call me crazy, but I wanna see that smooth special stage in a standard Sonic 2 rom hack
You can play a regular playthrough of the regular game with the enhanced special stages in the actual hack itself.

Why is Knuckles using Tails' color pallete?
You can choose different color skins for all the characters
The special stage is SO SMOOTH, WTF????
AND THEN YOU MADLADS PULL A SPIRAL JUST TO FLEX
lol I love how they done to the title screen! Like the emblem doing mode 7 effect and sonic having stunning animations, a very nice touch
That title screen looks like it was animated in 3d but pixeled
Genuinely such an amazing rom hack
the smoothness of some parts of the game genuinely makes it feel like the Android 2013 remake
The fact that this hack has a smooth version of the special stage is quite impressive.
AW man! This rom Hack is super decent. and looked FIRE!
Options theme is awesome
WOW, WOWWWW

lol that music from cave story indie game 9:57
why is knuckles orange
color change feature
Amazing, its incredible, but, why Knucles are orange?
how the fuck were they able to put off such a smooth title screen on a genesis?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Nice to see the 2P version of Metropolis Zone.
Imagine a sonic 3 vs
3:37 スペシャルステージ1:スペシャルステージ(ソニックヒーローズ)
Sonic VS Tikal
Lol
Perfect!
OMG how in the world did they make it smoother on a freaking real hardware?! 5:11 well I guess Genesis is indeed does what nintendon’t

Better multiplayer and drop dash
how is the title screen possible
No game the zone
