  • Hey all,
This is primarily an unboxing video for the equipment I'll be using to capture my aviation audio.
This setup does capture "all" audio. Both headsets and ATC/Radio communications will be recorded into the Sony DVR.

When Mr Aviation 101 bought this: Sony ICD-AX412 DVR, it cost a little less than $100. Sony no longer makes that recorder, unfortunately, it can be gotten if you search for it for over $200 now. WOW.
David Clark headsets are simply the BEST, period. They'll last you a lifetime with care.

Great video, thanks so much for sharing! I am about to start my PPL license training, ground school that is, but i'm told i can already start flying and work on the exams at the same time, so i am very excited about it! I got he same David Clarks yesterday, and they are awesome, very comfy on my head, and the audio is super quality. Regards! Daniel

So did you test the Sony recorder? I've heard that we should look for recorders with separate line and mic inputs cuz the mic one reportedly distorts the plane's audio. I ve never yet recorded audio inflight but if i do i ll use the passenger's seat inputs for the audio :D thanks for your vid!

Hey John, I appreciate this video. Im also planning to get this same headset since I'm about to get into PPL and you just made my decision on this headset. Btw you sound like Bryan Griffin from Family Guy :)

Great video, I'm just training for my PPL and I've ordered the same headset. I really wanted some Zulu's but I decided to save my money and get the basics down first then treat myself. Do you know the equivalent recording items I'd need over here in the UK ? Regards Simon 2E0SNJ :-)

microphone doesn't transmit properly. Have to place mic inside mouth for my CFI to hear me. Also came without reading materials/manuals.

Hello Jon I am a amateur radio operator as well. Have you ever used an aviation headset on a portable operation to utilize the noise canceling function on the headset. If so what would be the power requirements for the headset?

Hello Christopher! That is a very interesting question. I would like to know myself. I am using a standard headset at the moment. I haven't had experience with an ANR headset. I would have to do some research before I could give you some valuable information. From what I've read, there's no voltage while the headset is quiet, but there's a 8-16VDC for the Mic itself. I'll see what I can find in the future. Thank you for your comment! :)
