You've never listened to the "Attila" album, I take it? Let's just say when Allmusic calls it the Worst Album in Rock History and it's pretty hard to dispute…
(In Billy's defense, he and Jon Smalls recorded that it the basement of Jon's parents' dry-cleaning store, and the chemical fumes might have been affecting their brains. And it wasn't the album per se that made Billy attempt suicide; that was about his personal life.
But still. God, that is AWFUL. "Music" is being charitable, IMO.)

River of Dreams was really his last regular studio album. When he reached this point in his career he decided he was reaching his motivational limit. He felt that it was a good stopping point and that if he continued the quality might steadily go down. Honestly after that I missed new music from him a lot. His music always spoke to me. I managed to see him a couple of times in concert later on - once with Elton John and once on his own.
Another song I would recommend from this album is "Lullabye"

@@clarkgabriel427 In any case this is what he said in his interview with the New Yorker magazine “Some people think it’s because I’m lazy or I’m just being contrary," he said. "But, no, I think it’s just -- I’ve had my say. If I put out an album now, it would probably sell pretty well, because of who I am, but that’s no reason to do it. I’d want it to be good. I’ve seen artists on that treadmill, putting out albums year after year, and the albums get worse and worse, less and less interesting, and it’s, like, 'Maybe you should stop,'"

Billy Joel sings about the American experience at every level. Rich, poor, working person, life, death, war, love, joy, sorrow - his songs have covered it all. He is a true American composer. Although I enjoy all of his songs, the one that brings me to tears is "Goodnight Saigon", about the Vietnam experience for our soldiers. My husband is a Vietnam vet, and while he doesn't talk much about it...I get a sense of it from this particular song. If you do watch him perform, make sure it's the live version he is performing. Thanks for doing more Billy Joel!

Funny story - I'm a huge Billy Joel fan, ever since I was 16 (I'm 55 now), and I've seen him 6 times in concert. When River of Dreams came out, somehow I missed the news that he had a new album coming. I was eating lunch in my car and this song came on. The falsetto at the beginning, I thought... wow, that sounds like Billy Joel!' But I've never heard this song and I have ALL his music. It sounded so different from his other work, I was second guessing myself all through the first part. Until the piano started. Then I knew without a doubt!!!

Billy Joel is so great I am sure that that the more you listen to his songs the more you will love and soon find out HE could and did write just about every style or genre of song there is! It seems to me that just about every song he does has a different sound or flavor to it EXCEPT you can tell its Billy! It truly becomes very hard to pick a favorite! sort of like the Beatles or Elton .. so many that are so good. I read many of the new suggestions given to you and know them all and honestly pick ANY one of them and I believe you'll like it!

He can play the piano about as well as any other artist I know. He can sing much better than most and nearly as good as some of the best. He's got some swagger and soul. And there are only a handful of people who are in his class as a songwriter.

Possibly my favorite TV moment was when Billy performed this at the 94 Grammys. He performed just after Frank Sinatra recieved a lifetime achievement award and the producers interrupted his speech and played him off. At the break he took a super long pause looked at his watch and says "valuable advertising time going by" . It was a great FU to the producers and advertisers. It's on youtube and highly recommend watching.

2 of my favorites from my childhood are Uptown Girl and For the Longest Time. They both have a Doo-Wop feel... the mid 80s had a huge throwback to the 50s and I loved every moment of it.

He performed this song at the Grammy's that year Frank Sinatra received a special award and he went longer than expected and the network cut to commercial while he was still talking and the host Gary Shandling and many of the artists were VERY UPSET! While Billy was performing River of Dreams when he paused for the last time he stopped and said "valuable advertising time going by, valuable advertising time going by, ticking ticking ticking, dollars dollars dollars" he then went back into the song. One of my favorited moments in music. Subtle but got the point across and I am sure backstage people were applauding and busting a gut laughing. I highly recommend any and all songs from the album(I am old school) An Innocent Man. This was the first tour I ever saw Billy Joel live and that show made me want to see him again and I did another 4 or 5 times the last at what is now T-Mobile Park in Seattle. He said it was a lot better than the first place he played in Seattle The Fresh Air Tavern.

I'm so glad you guys played this, I love this. Billy kept evolving over all the years. Check out the song Downeaster Alexa. He wrote it to answer the call of the Long Island fishermen and tge life they lead. How hard it is. Billy is a true Long Island baby and his love for the Island shows. It's a fabulous song and as you say his voice has an urgency in it that's not in all his songs. Awesome reaction guys. ✌🏻&🩷

Billy Joel had a lot of great music in the late 70s. When I look at your reaction videos I see you've done some of his early stuff and a lot of his stuff from the 80s, but there's still a lot of great material from his 70s catalog for you to react to! I'd recommend 'Only the Good Die Young,' 'She's Always A Woman,' 'You May Be Right,' 'Don't Ask Me Why,' 'It's Still Rock And Roll To Me,' and 'She's Got A Way.' He had other hits, but all of these songs are bona fide classics!
